Superior sequel
People always say the The Godfather 2 is a good sequel, but it most certainly is not better than the first.
Anyway I mention it to get it over with. I think that Final Destination 2 is better than the original - in fact I don't like any of the series except 2. |

The Godfather Part 2 is better than Part 1 and that's saying a lot considering how great that movie is.
Dark Knight totally blows the previous Batman movie out of the water imo. It's in a class of its own. |

Toy Story 3 and The Bourne Ultimatum are the best of their respective trilogies imo.

The good the bad and the ugly - not sure in can be considered a proper sequal though.

Sequals are difficult. They usually just repeat what the previous film did for some extra cash (Hangover, Home Alone), or take the characters and story in a new direction, making an all out amazing film. There are few examples, but here they are:
The Empire Strikes Back: Obviously strikes out as many people's favourite Star Wars film. From the infamous training scenes, to the exceedingly infamous "I am your father line," it is one of the best films ever made. The Dark Knight: Batman Begins was something rare; a superb comic book movie. Most comic movies are a bit of fun but nothing too extraordinary (the recent Marval movies fall into this) and Batman Begins was something special. However, TDK was superb on every level. The writers, the actors... everyone was committed into making a better movie than the first, and it shows on screen. Here's to TDKR doing something extraordinary, and being even better than TDK. Despite Bane's voice, its looking promising. The Two Towers: Maybe this doesn't count, but I think TLOTR gets better as the trillogy goes on. This film has it all; its epic, its touching and Gollum stands out as one of the best characters ever seen. Spiderman 2: Another example of taking the characters somewhere new. A shame 3 didn't build on this. |

Also I agree with the guy above that says that The Lord of the Rings movies get better. TTT and ROTK are so much grander and epic than the first movie which I liked. |
