I'm half way through my 24month contract with 3three mobile. I pay £35 per month on the iphone 4 tariff. I don't really have a problem with 3 and never needed to ring them. I get good speed most of the time and the unlimited data allows me to stream skygo and netflix just as good as my home broadband connection. I regularly use around 5GB per month of data and from my Point of View no other network comes close to allowing that. So at the end of my contract I wouldn't want to move..

My contract ends nicely for the release of iphone 5... 22nd December my contract ends. But i'm happy with my iphone 4 and if I decide to stick with this phone do you think 3 will give me the same mins, texts and data but for a reduced monthly fee... or do you need to threaten to leave before they start offering you stuff like that?

If I could keep my iphone 4 and have 2000 minutes, 5000 3-3 mins, 5000 texts, unlimited data for around £15-20 per month i'd be a happy bunny.

If you do nothing, nothing will happen. If you call their customer services, they will offer you a reduced rate in exchange for renewing your contract. The fact you don't need a new handset should get you more leverage. If they are like Tmobile, for whom I work, you should be talking to them 30 days before the end of the contract to get the best deal.

You have to phone them and speak to their retentions team. I've noticed a trend these days that the mobile operators seem more keen for you to stick to the same price point but get a new handset than give you a discount. I guess it involves their margins.

But you won't know for sure until you speak to them AFTER your contract has ended, and yes you may need to threaten to leave but it's not that hard. You ask for a PAC code to transfer your number to a different mobile operator, if you don't, your contract will continue as before.
