Just before I begin, I've had a thoroughly enjoyable time reading this topic (only managed to read from page 12 to this present one though - all your posts and theories are very interesting!). I might hang around here more often now, as this place is surprisingly nicer than the Music forums...

Anyway, I've not got a theory as such (though I do corroborate others', even the smaller things like the significance of the tea service), but one thing I have a major irk with is some of the theories that suggest that Sherlock planned to land in a positioned rubbish truck or that Mollie accompanied Sherlock to the roof to fake his death because, fundamentally, Sherlock wouldn't have been able to plan those theories.

Until about five minutes before his jump, Sherlock knew he had no other option but to jump to save Watson, Lestrade, and Mrs. Hudson, and I genuinely believe Sherlock was surprised when Moriarty killed himself; he didn't expect it at all. To me, the conversation before Moriarty's suicide recalled the scene from 'A Study In Pink' where Sherlock is talking to the cab-driver in the school; ever-so-slightly peeling away his stone cold façade to reveal a very insecure man (the best part being that Sherlock thrives off the moment when his opponents' pupil's dilate and their pallors fade as he unlocks their plans). And this means that any plan Sherlock had before stepping onto the roof would have quite literally gone out the window. Tossing a corpse/Moriarty's corpse onto the pavement/squeezing some blood over it/him/jumping in a rubbish truck are all impossible theories because Sherlock never planned for Moriarty to kill himself, so why would any plan he had thought as he stepped onto the rooftop involve the corpse of Moriarty instead of a living, breathing and wonderfully psychotic Moriarty ready to kill Sherlock's three closest friends in a heartbeat unless he saw Sherlock impaled on the pavement? Sherlock could not have prepared such a plan to escape as the theories above because, until Moriarty killed himself, any plan Sherlock did have would've been to evade Moriarty as someone who was very much living. But then again, this plan would've been foiled almost immediately because Moriarty had John, Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson at gunpoint.

So just ponderings really. I'm very interested in hearing more of all your brilliant theories and ideas and hope you all withstood my post, even if i rambled a bit/was possibly unclear.

Not surprising at all, given that the lead actors are so busy with other projects. But it's also not surprising in general, as it seems like various delays have always plagued this series.

It's still hugely disappointing though, if only because Sherlock is one of the few good British dramas of the moment.

All good things come to those that wait.

Maybe they will schedule it to clash with the final of BGT or X factor.

Didn't we have to wait a year and a half for series two?

But he must have planned something or why would he need Molly?

It's always nice to see this thread resurrected!

Nice of you to mention the tea thingy, btw. I still think the tea is significant - I just haven't worked out how.

Yes Granny McSmith, there was a plan and it did involve Mollie somehow, but how could it have involved Moriarty's corpse? Mollie was involved, but it wasn't in pushing Moriarty's corpse as when they made the plan (whatever it was, they would not have anticipated Moriarty killing himself). And because Moriarty killed himself, whatever plan Sherlock did have would've have to have been re-thought, meaning Sherlock had about 5 minutes to come up with a contingency.

But lord knows really! I'm watching 'The Reichenbach Fall' now to see if something else is worth noting. But I really do agree about the tea service - it give me the impression that it was very quickly lent to Sherlock by Mrs. Hudson at request. Sherlock doesn't drink tea - he drinks coffee, and the set looks like it'd be Mrs. Hudson's rather than Sherlock's - it's decorated china; so very unlike anything Sherlock would associate himself with.

EDIT: The tea service has a picture of the British Isles on it, so it's definitely not Sherlock's!

I don't think it did involve Moriarty's corpse. I think Sherlock knew he had to jump, and set up the laundry (or rubbish) truck/fake blood/homeless network to surround the "body"/Molly to take care of the "body" plan, but he knew it was risky, and could all go awry.

For a brief moment he thought he could avoid jumping by forcing Moriarty to call off the snipers, but Moriarty's suicide precluded that, and he had to jump after all.

The tea set may have been one that Mrs H had left in the flat for her tennant's use. What I found odd was not the tea set itself, but the fact that Sherlock actually made tea! In a pot! Surely very out of character? Especially as John had stated in "The Hounds of Baskerville" that Sherlock never made coffee - I suppose that meant he never made tea either.

The theory above isn't mine, btw (except for the tea bit). I didn't even notice the truck driving away until it was pointed out on here. It's just an amalgam of things I've read. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long to find out what really happened.

Something which seems to have been ignored, why exactly did the girl scream when she saw Sherlock?

The person who kidnapped her must either have been a Sherlock lookalike, someone of similar stature wearing a Sherlock mask or possibly even Sherlock himself, (although not voluntarily of course).

psychological torture - showing the girl a photo of Sherlock and saying "this man is coming to kill you" etc.

This is the link:

They say that you can only vote once - how can they manage to set that up when so many other voting systems are open to multiple voting?

That's great news. Don't forget to vote for the Audience Award peoples.

Just think how grumpy Sherlock would be if it went to TOWIE ??
Let's make him happy.

I don't think Sherlock would get what it was all about. Why should he care if the dimwitted British Public don't recognise his genius? He knows he's a genius, and that's all he needs.

I voted to please John, who has already (in his Martin Freeman alter ego) been very fed up about a TOWIE win!

Unfortunately, I think Martin and Andrew cancel each other out in the Best Supporting Category

I would have agreed with you right up to the final scene of series two.

Martin/Watson at the 'graveside' with Mrs Hudson and after she left was a superb piece of acting.

He caught perfectly the emotion of realising, a person who he didn't totally 'get', who infuriated, and sometimes belittled him, but who he knew deep down really valued and treasured him, was suddenly gone.

The loss of a friend.

I've watched that scene several times, and it always makes me gulp

I recently rewatched The Reichenbach Fall and was astonished at how much tea played a part in it. I'm sure it's vital to the solution of the mystery of how Sherlock survived!

So now Moffat is using the likes of Fry to plant clues! I always knew he was devious!

Very happy at the BAFTA noms! Really hoping Scott wins the Best Supporting Actor award- his performance still blows me away every time.
