Has anyone been pleased by any of the "explanations" seen so far?

I loved that, I liked that they spent so much time re-establishing the relationships, if it had been glossed over, I don't think it would be believable, a person can't fake thier own death, disappear for 2 years and then just carry on as if nothing happened. Really looking forward to the next 2 episodes!

The little girl at the bonfire was also in the not going out christmas special (trixiebelle is a very rare name) and has also been cast for a small role in games of thrones.

What a horribly smug programme. An 85 minute titwank for Moffatt and Cumberbatch.

We've seen 3 (Derren Brown, Moriaty/Sherlock snog and the final one with the him falling ontp the inflatable thingy), he sort of ran through another two during his first meeting with John, so definitely 3, and possibly 5

Looks like 'style over substance' is the new battle cry to go next to 'complicated story arcs'. Which as you say is bizarre. Sherlock has always been a highly stylised show. That criticism was made by some the minute the text on screen thing first appeared. Others loved it.
Its always been super slick. Were some expecting a gritty kitchen sink drama? Just have confidence in what you like. If it didn't appeal to a lot of people it wouldn't exist. But not everybody will like it. |

Must be just me then
I thought it was a complete and utter load of rubbish It made no sense from beginning to end Sherlock is supposed to solve crimes with his logical brain And I won't be watching again |

This show is a total embarrassment. I just hope to the Almighty we don't sell it abroad, please someone tell me we don't.
The first couple of episodes from the original series were enough for me, never wasted electricity on it since.. I still wonder if it isn't some badly written and even more badly acted comedy sketch. |

Its like a magic trick. The beauty is in the mystery and all the speculation. When you pull back the curtain and find a doddery old man it spoils it. I don't want it forensically explained for sure. I would be quite happy if they never say for sure what happened. Its drama and fantasy. Not a documentary.
I never bothered about this aspect..there are a million ways it could have been done and the reality is always disappointing..It's the effect that matters. |

I don't know why people are concerned about getting 'the truth'. It's not a documentary!

I know I'll sound dumb but please can someone explain to me:
1) So how did he actually fake his death? There are 3 ways they shown. 2) Who was the old guy at the end? 2) I missed the chap at the end. |

Simply someone's personal preference when it comes to narrative devices. Others like ambiguity and open threads, that's fine too. But, according to some other posts, this plot point will continue over the next 2 episodes so we may get some form of resolution at some point. |

When Watson was talking to the old perv in his surgery a Dr Verner was mentioned
In the original short story The Norwood Builder it was revealed that after Holmes returned from the dead Watson sold his practice to a Dr Verner who it turns out was a distant relative of Holmes |

Of anything ever I'd say, possibly except Adventures of Time and Space.
Definitely agree with that.

One thing that you don't need to be Holmes to deduce is that you will always attack people who think differently to you.
Just have confidence in what you like. If it didn't appeal to a lot of people it wouldn't exist. But not everybody will like it. You seem to have basically criticised yourself in your own post. You seem to have a problem with my opinion which is what you are calling me out on. Funny that. |

Good episode. I preferred the last two season openers but it was still good in its own right.
Please don't say we'll never find out how he jumped off the roof? That would be a massive cop out.
