Its like a magic trick. The beauty is in the mystery and all the speculation. When you pull back the curtain and find a doddery old man it spoils it. I don't want it forensically explained for sure. I would be quite happy if they never say for sure what happened. Its drama and fantasy. Not a documentary.

I loved that, I liked that they spent so much time re-establishing the relationships, if it had been glossed over, I don't think it would be believable, a person can't fake thier own death, disappear for 2 years and then just carry on as if nothing happened. Really looking forward to the next 2 episodes!

The little girl at the bonfire was also in the not going out christmas special (trixiebelle is a very rare name) and has also been cast for a small role in games of thrones.

Thank you.

Its always been super slick. Were some expecting a gritty kitchen sink drama?”

One thing that you don't need to be Holmes to deduce is that you will always attack people who think differently to you.

Just have confidence in what you like.

If it didn't appeal to a lot of people it wouldn't exist.

But not everybody will like it.

Must be just me then
I thought it was a complete and utter load of rubbish
It made no sense from beginning to end
Sherlock is supposed to solve crimes with his logical brain
And I won't be watching again

This show is a total embarrassment. I just hope to the Almighty we don't sell it abroad, please someone tell me we don't.

The first couple of episodes from the original series were enough for me, never wasted electricity on it since.. I still wonder if it isn't some badly written and even more badly acted comedy sketch.

It's a co-production with PBS. Technically it's a British-American show.

And AFAIK it does very well abroad, especially in the US...

Quite right and I think Gatiss made that point well.

I never bothered about this aspect..there are a million ways it could have been done and the reality is always disappointing..It's the effect that matters.

So totally the POINT, which some just don't seem to get.

And we can speculate and decide. It's ultimately what we think, the truth is NOT out there. It's actually bloody FICTION, and damned enjoyable an' all.

1) We don't know yet. These were the fandom theories disguised as Anderson's (I think).

2) I missed the chap at the end.

It doesn't need to be a documentary. Some people just like having story threads resolved properly. Rather than a "make your own ending", they like the storyteller to provide a resolution to a story point.

Simply someone's personal preference when it comes to narrative devices. Others like ambiguity and open threads, that's fine too.

But, according to some other posts, this plot point will continue over the next 2 episodes so we may get some form of resolution at some point.

Lol, it's airing on PBS in America.

When Watson was talking to the old perv in his surgery a Dr Verner was mentioned

In the original short story The Norwood Builder it was revealed that after Holmes returned from the dead Watson sold his practice to a Dr Verner who it turns out was a distant relative of Holmes

Its called disagreeing with. Its called an opinion. I have plenty of confidence in what I like thanks and quite frankly the opinions of others are meaningless when it comes to my enjoyment. I am interested in all types of opinion when they are well made and argued.

You seem to have basically criticised yourself in your own post. You seem to have a problem with my opinion which is what you are calling me out on. Funny that.

And lauded, as it should be.

But it's not for everyone of course.

No, but I'm pass caring. Next time I shall over look the hype, (whatever form it takes) and simply look forward to the actual story and how the characters develop. Should have known better: such expectations tend to disappoint, greatly.

Good episode. I preferred the last two season openers but it was still good in its own right.

Please don't say we'll never find out how he jumped off the roof? That would be a massive cop out.
