You haven't met many DW fans, have you?

Why on earth would I frequent Dr Who threads,I don't watch it??

I said that one of the categories of viewer that Sherlock appeals to (and is designed specifically to appeal to), is the Dr Who fan. This, due to the special effects, etc.

To those of us who like mystery and crime dramas, Sherlock is lacking. Or it certainly was in this episode anyway. But then none of the three writers are experienced in writing crime/mystery. Perhaps they need a consultant writer. Or perhaps its all good, as long as they have the Dr Who fans and those who will forgive a lot just because of the characterisation.”

I can't speak for anyone else, but

I don't watch Dr Who

I like crime/mystery

I liked the first episode of Sherlock series 3, and am looking forward to tonight's episode.

Is that allowed?

Really looking forward to tonight's latest episode.

Well this thread has taken a decidedly negative turn since January 1st. I completely understand the necessity of criticism but considering I've flicked through multiple pages of debate turning into personal insults on others intelligence and right to like or dislike something I'll give this thread a miss for this evening.

To those looking forward to tonight because their a fan and are actually looking forward to it; Happy Viewing.

To those who are not fans but are going to watch so they can spend an alarming amount of time criticising it; happy viewing and thank you for keeping viewership high so we might get a fourth season

Because I had never even heard of Moffat until yesterday, through reading this thread (I don't ever take any interest in writers/producers/directors, or even actors - call me a philistine), I Googled him. This was the first article that cropped up.

http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-ra...ock-doctor-who

(quote) Moffat suspects Sherlock has overwhelmingly the same audience as Doctor Who. "Sherlock is Doctor Who but an hour later in the TV schedules. Not two hours later, one hour."(/quote)

and a quick Google just now reveals many more articles that seem to confirm that he considers the two shows to be very alike.

BIB. Why wouldn't it be? I'm happy for you. Just allow the rest of us an opinion too. Mine is, that I loved S1 Ep1, but have been a little bit less keen episode by episode and series by series; with the one the other night disappointing me far more than I'd expected. Maybe tonight's will be much better.

Couldn't agree more with this post! I stopped reading this thread a few days ago as it was just full of slating the latest episode and was quite depressing. Just thought I'd venture in again now seeing as it's nearly time for the next episode.

I'm not good at multi-tasking so will watch and enjoy Sherlock tonight, although I may be baffled as to what is going on.

Tomorrow I'll probably read this thread to discover:

What happened
Why it was/wasn't any good
How some people are confused because they can't give it their complete attention while reading other peoples' comments and responding to them - so keep asking other viewers to tell them what they have missed

Then I'll look forward to next week's episode. I still can't understand why US dramas can last for 12/24 episodes but we have 3 at a time.

BIB - I honestly don't get this, at all. Why keep watching something that is increasingly disappointing you?

That's like reading a rubbish novel you want to bin after about 25 pages, but you go right to the end nonetheless. Pointless.

You seem to have missed the bit where I said that I loved it at first and have liked it slightly less each episode. That still doesn't take it to the point where I like nothing at all about it, or have given up hoping for another cracking episode. As I said, the first ep of S3 took it much nearer.
If I'd said it was unwatchable you'd have had a point.

Nah.

I loved the first series of Homeland, and then thought it went downhill rapidly, so I'm not watching it anymore.

I find all this whingeing and moaning rather bemusing. It's just a TV show. Don't like it, turn the telly off, do something else etc.

Moffat's a very clever writer but I must say he tends to start other plots before he's finished with one ! DW is full of this , we're still getting explanations of things that happened 2 years ago , and now with Sherlock they've started up a whole new super-villain before they've even resolved what happened 2 years ago with Moriarty , Sherlock's 'death' etc.”

It does seem to be an obsession of his.

I don't see why people are criticising others for querying the train plot.
If you want to watch the show and are happy with the conclusion given then fine.
Others have pointed out their doubts about what happened. Surely that is a given with this type of show.

Reading this thread i must have been one of the few who actually really enjoyed the first episode and cannot wait for tonights one. I still think Sherlock is probably the best British TV show on right now, and for some time. Fantastic TV but perhaps not quite up there with the best american shows.

Way better than Doctor Who(which ive never liked), which i view as a kids show(and some adults like it wayyy too much in my opinion!)

DR WHO IN A DEERSTALKER

The two merge as one and neither have any substantial quality .

Unless you are a blind dumb fan of the Dr Who / Sherlock mash up then there is nothing to watch.

I like crime drama, and Sherlock Holmes.

But this is neither.

It is a mushy soap opera pandering to the adults and children who have put down thier Harry Potter / lord of the rings fan books and now watching this.

Oooohh ...Sherlocks best man speech !!

....go shove it up your Eastender.

Actually, the criticisms and negativity here is nothing in comparison to some other forums I've visited. You should see the savagery with which some fans are tearing this episode to pieces on imdb. The intensity of the vitriol is truly frightening, something I thought that only happens on Doctor Who forums like Gallifreybase
I must say the folks here on this thread are positively a more restrained and civilised lot. In comparison..

Can we take it from that you are not a fan?

If you're not, you'll probably have a better evening if you don't watch tonight's episode. It's up to you of course.

I must have missed the memo that said 'you're only allowed to watch the show if you have no criticisms of it'.

I'm only posting in this thread because it was already full of FM's disappointments. Had it been only me I'd have kept quiet.

Read another thread if you want only unswerving devotion to the show and its producers.

I am a Fan of Sherlock Holmes.
Arthur Conan Doyle.

NOT Dr Who in a Deerstalker.

I posted on here as Speed with Guy Martin seems more plausable and in fact interesting than this sunday night prime time "giddy fan base " mash up Soap opera.

People who are fans of "Cults " deserve evrything they get

Crikey good job I checked the schedules or I'd have tuned in at 9pm.

Can't wait for tonight's after last week's phenomenal opener
It all seems to be going too fast again. We shall be stuck in another two-year absence before we can say 'elementary'.
Time to get out the snacks and drinks and just sit in for a good relish.
