Just seen it in the new Argos catalogue (it says available in Feb in there, but Sony's site says April ) and this is the spec:
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/blu-ra...TechnicalSpecs

My DVD player needs replacing and I thought it might be a good idea to get a Blu-Ray player although we haven't got an HD telly yet. Also it seems like a good idea to get one that has built-in Wifi so we can watch iPlayer etc on the telly.

I don't want to get a box that is 43 cm wide because that would mean taking something else off the stand as well but this one is 32 cm wide so it should just squeeze into the space. The small Sony "Smart" one that has been in the shops for a while is "Wifi ready" but you have to buy a dongle to use with it if you actually want to use the Wifi. The spec for this new box says "USB Wi-Fi Ready N/A
Wi-Fi Built in (2.4GHz(b,n,g) YES" so it seems it wouldn't require a dongle.

So, I hope Argos is right and it's out in February - but I suppose Sony are more likely to be right.

Make sure your TV has the right connections on it - BluRay requires HDMI and I would assume you use SCART at the moment

They normally have SD AV outputs as well, so you can still use an SD TV - but as it's a new model (not out yet) it would be something to check!

According to the specs on the Sony website (link in OP) it has composite video and analogue audio sockets on the back.

- and I've got it's older sister, the BD380, connected to my 90's SD TV's 2nd SCART socket via a 3 RCA to SCART cable.

I got a sony bluray for my aunt at christmas thinking it would get internet tv, but discovered it needed a dongle. Sony were asking over 60 and the reviews were awful so I got a Netfix, It is awfully slow, took 55 mins to record a 40 min prog. I think its best to get the phone line moved to near the telly so as to use an ethernet cable, its very fast.

It's a nightmare without a proper keyboard. And how secure is it going to be surfing via a DVD player?

Security isn't really a problem - it's not a PC, so you can't catch a virus or whatever - and without a keyboard you're unlikely to be inputing sensitive information. So no security issues.

But it's there as an extra free feature, it's not intended to replace a PC for Internet use, just the odd minor bit of browsing.
