is that an excuse for bringing up the race card every time a result or perfomance is not agreed with?

why do people say "the race card"..its stupid there is no such thing

if someone was being bullied for being gay..would you go up to them and say "oh be quiet and stop playing the gay card"...no you wouldnt

its just ignorant peoples ways to get around the point that someone is trying to make..rather than answer it they just blinding say "oh stop playing the race card"..

[quote=omideyi]for a start, Rowetta is not black, she's mixed-race. This may seem irrelevant or trivial to many of you, but it's fact nevertheless.

Erh -excuse me, how ignornant can you be by suggesting someone of mixed race origin is not Black? What do you know about black histroy/culture? I am of mixed heritage, and consider/identify myself Black

I fear I might have offended someone on this forum but that was not my intention. I am quite ignorant, I admit, but I will always deny that I have ever treated anyone in a different way depending on their origins. I do not care where you or your parents were born, whether that is lancashire (where I was born), scotland, ireland, or anywhere else. I just quite frankly do not give a shit. Nor am I willing to make allowances for the fact you are from a different culture. My reasoning is, and always had been, is that you are a person, and you deserve - and will get - respect from me on that basis. I expect the same from you. I believe that gives me the right to express my opinions, with kindness and respect, and I am willing to accept the same in return. I acknowledge (and am appalled by) the fact that many people have been mistreated in the past because of their ethnic, social, or sexual orientation or origin. And if you have been mistreated on this basis then I will be among the first to champion your rights, whatever my personal cost. And this is why, if I decide to express my opinion on someone who has presented themselves open to judgement in something like the X-Factor, and someone suggests that race has influenced my viewpoint, I feel affronted. I know what I like to listen to and watch and I really do not give a flying f**k where the voice comes from. Does anyone honestly think that I gave a shit about the'ethnic origins' of Diana Ross or Jimmy Ruffin when I was spending my pocket money on their records? Get real please. Tis the talent alone which makes a star.

Thank you for posting that. I was ''corrected'' last week when I referred to Rowetta as being black.I didn't bother to retaliate but you have now confirmed I was correct.

end of the day...the main point of this thread still remains to be true..

and its annoying when people post "Oh stop playing the race card"..when there are parties around like the BNP and national front that suprisingly have almost doubled the amount of votes recently and have over 100,000 members and still increasing

if they had enough votes and were able to control the government they would want every ethnic person whether they are black/asian etc out of the country..and i wouldnt be suprised if some people on here share the same views

for the last 5 to 6 years in competitions where there is a phone vote there has never been a non-white winner in this country..and never will

judge that how you want..

Yes there is such a thing and yes you're right it is stupid.

maybe if you were able to respond to someones point with reason then you wouldnt HAVE to say it...maybe you just dont have an answer to someones point or not smart enough to answer it...if you cant then just dont say nothing at all.

non-white people make up to about 12-13% of this countries population..that should answer your question..hence minority

But plenty of white people love non white artists. Why should the colour of the voters skin make any difference to whether they like an act or not?

do we actually know the voting figures for each act last week to see if your facts vaguely tally?

r&b/rap music is pretty huge in this country, and has been for years so how would you explain that success? what is the difference between the charts and a reality tv show like this?

So just because you dont like a particular act on a light entertainment tv show and they happen to be black, that could mean you have political views similar to the BNP?

Words actually fail me

it doesnt...but in a competition like this..you have to take in hand that probably about 6-7 million votes are counted..including members of the BNP...

anyways facts speak for themselves

in a phone vote competition..it could be anything..big brother..fame acadamy..pop idol....tv awards (and i mean actor awards,,not tv shows)..anything..for the last 6 years there has never been a non-white winner

they make competitions like this...then they go and spoil it by making a public vote..theres no point of non-white people even entering competitions like this

How about the black guy and the mixed race guy in PSTR? They both made the final band ahead over a fair few white lads.

with rnb and rap you have to take in consideration of the audience thats listening to it

rnb and rap is amoungst young people...16-19 year olds..and of course older people in there twenties..

but the middle aged white male/female i can garentee that about 7 percent of the population listen to rap or rnb..most of them think its rubbish

and its younger people who go out to shops like hmv and spend there money on cds

now in competitions..where people phone and vote and use their own phonebills is probably 70 percent adults or parents

i would definitly say that older middle-aged people discriminate against ethnics more than anyone else..some of them put there views to their own kids..ive seen it with my own eyes

imo i wouldnt say that it is 70% adults watching/voting on the show so i would disagree with that point and secondly middle aged people descriminating against "ethnics" would possibly depend on location/class rather than a matter of course (speaking as someone who has lived in various parts of Britain)

I have no idea where your figures or ideas come from but I could not disagree more.
I'm 35 and have been into r&b and soul music since i was a child.
99.9% of my friends (fairly mixed but majority white and in their 30's) are into the same sort of music as me.
We were going to Soul weekenders in the 80's and going to see bands like Maze, EW&F, The Whispers and people like Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Luther and many others from the 80's onwards.

In my personal experience, I'd say a very high percentage of white people in their 30's are huge soul/r&b fans.

this has got bugger all to do with not liking VWS though. I'm partial to a bit of gospel myself. I've seen Sounds of Blackness several times and I'd say the majority of the audiance each time were white in pushing middle age.

Maybe you should be careful whom you stereotype.

I think this entire debate is completely pointless .... those who think poor old VWS being in the last two last week was prompted by their colour are never going to change their opinion -

those like me that think they are just loud, gospel type singers whose type of music I would never choose to add to my collection will never change their opinion either -

but the fact that they are black has absolutely no bearing on whether I like their voices or choice of songs what so ever .... many many of my cds are by black artists and I think the whole argument is both simplistic and shallow.

You are so wrong.
Where are you getting your info from?? The audience for this show is 90% female and between the ages of 12 and 25 on average.

Just like the Big Brother voting on CH4 there tends to be a 'bitch vote' where the attractive female goes first or the man hungry one etc..female on female etc. VWS were probably voted against because of their image (dress wise) than anything else and the irish bird cos she was stunning -

Baring in mind Verity and 2 to go where up tonight - it doesnt really buy in to any kind of predjudicial concept.
