Android and iPlayer
Apparently my HTC Wildfire will not accept the iPlayer app as it is too low spec! Android is 2.2.1 Does anyone know how to get iPlayer on a Wildfire? I can't believe it is out of date only one year old!

Have you got the Wildfire or Wildfire S? Either way, the phone isn't so much "out of date" as "never able to cope with such demands anyway". There are workarounds, including using the Skyfire browser or "finding" a copy of the iPlayer app in a place other than the market (which we can't help you with), but none will yield really spectacular results. <=600MHz just really isn't fast enough to cope with the demands of video playing/streaming.
Your best hope would be an upgrade, I'm afraid. |

I suppose you could root your phone and put on a custom rom which will give the option to overclock the processor.
Though that might still be too slow. |

Don't bother.
On my Galaxy S2 iPlayer video is only smooth on low quality setting (which is pixelated and horrid to watch) If I watch Med and High quality mode- video stutters and jagged. The status bar doesn't disappear either - constantly there. |

I have no issues. I can't remember either if late8 was the only one who had this problem (or if it was another poster) but others said they did not.

If you go to pLayer settings and select high quality the video is not smooth.
To the OP, the Wildfire is probably too low spec to cope with the demands of iplayer. Get an S2, if its an option. |

There is a tweaked Adobe Flash apk kicking around that removes the 'too slow a CPU' Adobe restriction.
I'm not 100% certain it works on the Wildfire but it does on the SF. |

Try SD Maid which is a system cleaner developed by members of XDA Dev and give the system a once over after you have uninstalled the iPlayer app. Trouble is you need root access.

Thanks all for advice and suggestions. Its a plain ordinary Wildfire which seems OK for basic browsing so I will settle for that!

May not be the phone that's bust but something is. No issues whatsoever on my S2 with iPlayer.
Have you tried uninstalling the app and trying a new install? This only happens on High Quality and Med Quality setting on the app and the website version. I just dont understand. Its the only flash to stutter like this. It looks smooth until you get panning /moving picture. My signal and speed is excellent. |
