Topshop is no longer 'Top' with me....

Only a few years ago, Topshop was the shop that I used to go to for everything - party dresses, casual, smart, funky and trendy clothing, jewellery etc etc. However these days I am not inspired by the clothes anymore and find that their prices are unreasonable compared to some of the other high street fashion chains. Could it be that it has become too common? Or too fashion conscious? Or that my style choices have matured?? Am I the only one that feels this way about Topshop?

At 26 I am no longer young, thin and trendy enough to even be interested in Topshop. They still have the odd piece thats nice, I bought a gilet from them last week - although I paid £5 for nominated delivery day Friday and still waiting for it to come but thats the couriers fault. So yeah they are no longer the mecca for me either. I now wander around House of Fraser awe inspired at the clothes instead.

I stopped going in Topshop about 3 years ago when I was 21. Even before then, I'd rarely found anything that suited me in there. They don't seem to cater for tall, reasonably slim but with boobs and hips. Definitely one best left to the teens.

Although their prices are ridiculous and the quality not amazing, in my opinion.

I used to be obsessed with Topshop, was always buying something. Don't think I've bought anything in there for a good few months now, somethings changed with the styling, and it's not a good change

I thought Topshop and Topman were aimed more at the younger age group (i.e. teens, student age, early-twenties)?

If people are talking about what they were doing a "few" years ago, surely the obvious answer is that the people in their late teens back then are now in their mid-to-late twenties and moving away from the target market anyway?

I still shop in Topman, and I'm nearly that age!

I know a 41 year old who still shops there! I'm 19 and never even liked anything there

Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe they have different target markets for Topman and Topshop?

Also depends how tightly they were targeting that age group, and maybe that was a few years ago.... management chop and change these sorts of things all the time.

Doesn't really matter if you like the stuff and can still get away with wearing it anyway, I was only guessing a possible reason some people might have gone off it.

Maybe I was talking out of my nether regions

Clothes are pretty shit everywhere at the moment, it's all the worst bits of the 80s mixed in with hideous cheap looking gold and the odd bit of red Indian.

Well apart from being aimed at different genders, I think the age group they want to target is the same. For Topman I think it's up to about 25/26, so I'm now way over! Mind you, there always seems to be a few guys in their 30s in the Oxford St branch, but then they have a bigger selection and not just the basic teeny type stuff that tends to get stocked in the smaller stores - hoodies, cuffed jeans etc.

Topman used to have fashionable clothes that weren't too 'extreme'. Now most of it is what I'd call 'extreme' ie stuff you would only wear to make a statement.

I love Topshop. I am 27 and don't at all consider myself too old or that Topshop is for Teens. My mum was still shopping there at 44. The smaller stores are usually a bit boring, lots of dull clothes in 99 shades of beige. It's the large store in Oxford Street I am fond of, the most amazing dresses are in the basement. Infact whenever I need a new dress Topshop in Oxford Street is my first stop.

I like the dresses in that bit as well, as they are not Topshop own brand, so they are nice. I don't really like any of the Topshop own brand stuff. I find it all a bit boho, studenty, hippy, etc. I usually go in via Miss Selfridge, through to the accessories floor, then straight down to the basement to check out the concessions (Rare is probably my favourite). Admittedly I'm not the best at dressing.

Exactly what I find too, most items in their usual smaller stores is all a bit "hippy" especially during certain seasons. Tassels hanging off everything and that "fake" distressed, well worn crap which I hate but then again I like things with simple clean cuts and smart or preppy. Some of their "basic" pieces are really good quality and fit well, such as the vest dresses though I'd steer clear of the ribbed vests they wash extremely bad and discolor and bobble after one solitary wash. I used to love River Island too but in the past couple of years the quality of their clothes are akin to a cheap market stall and everything is really tarty and tacky or poorly made and fluro - yuck. I will now only bother with shoes.

Jewellery is nice but again better in the larger store it's all branded stuff such as Mikeys, etc. Accessories are very good depending on the season, I'm not into headwraps and turbans which are in abundance in the summer but the winter hats, scarves etc are always cool. I picked up a gorgeous cream coloured chunky knit and faux fur trapper hat from £18 down to £3 and matching mittens from £16 to £2 in the remenants of the January sales yesterday. Bargain.

I have never liked Topshop's style. As others have said it is a bit hippy, boho etc.
They do make some nice jeans so i would go in for those if it wasnt for the cut. I'm only an 8 in jeans but Topshop ones seem to have no, how can i put it, bum or hip room?!
It could just be my figure but they seem very narrowly cut at the hips.
