I don't know what it is, but there's something I really like about Verity: although I reckon she's very little chance of walking all the way through the competition (her groups, along with Rowetta & Steve, are by far the strongest of the lot - Cowell is lucky he got this trio, because amongst them has got to be the winner), i'm glad she's on to next saturday.

I think they'd do her a favour if she were geared towards (without turning into a cabaret act) a sixties style. Less Eva Cassidy, more Helen Shapiro, you get me. Today she came out there looking like proper mutton dressed as lamb (her outfit was a little too "can I pass for thirty?" and the flicky out hair didn't suit, too britney). Her voice warbled and broke on that tune (probably nerves - but it held up on the 'big' parts of the song). But still, she's the only one who I sort of 'wanted' to go on in the competition -- and not for sympathy (honest). If I had to choose between any of them to find a winner with the 'x factor' it's be Verity, Rowetta & Steve. None of the others, either sympathy wannabes, pop idolites of one-trick wonders, are serious contenders.

What does everyone else here think of Verity?

I think she has a pleasant singing voice, but so does my lovely husband, I certainly don't think she has the X Factor or any charisma at all for that matter.

Um... she's just average in my opinion. I think she's a nice person and all.

I didn't think her preformance tonight was as bad as everyone is making out, mind.

Verity gave tthe worst performance of the night by a considerable margin.

Her voice is dull, her control is poor, her stage presence is weak. She should've gone home tonight.

it was the weakest by far she should have gone weeks ago

I like her too!!! Glad she gets to sing again next week!!!!

She's a nice lady and I'm sure could find regular work singing, I personally think she would do best on the cruise ships. She would actually do very well on German TV, as my German mother inlaw pointed out.

I think I very much agree with you. I think she has the X factor. I warm to her, I really like her, love her vulnerability, love her niceness, she is attractive to look at.

I really want her to do well for no logical reason - for that X factor reason.

I completely agree with you Walford. Verity has the best personality, very humble and sweet. She should never have been given that song, though.

I reckon she might have a few more weeks left in her yet.

I sort of agree, the nerves were very much in evidence... she almost made it on the 'big' parts of the vocal, but I think that after tonights performance she should go next.

She may well have it in her to overcome the nerves and show us what she has really got, I doubt it though.

yeah I think that this week was the hardest for her, just getting used to everything. Now I think she will be better next week!!!!!

Verity strikes me as nice with a pleasant voice but so what - it doesn't go any further than that. She's only memorable in my mind because of her constant crying in the lead up to the live show.

TWO, I think you summed up Verity's performance very well but the sad thing is that is how she performs week in week out. She never gets a song right from the start though she does manage to pick it up as it goes along. Maybe she might grow in confidence if she lasts a couple of weeks but she'll only be given so many chances.

I think the comments made about her clothes are very unfair. If you've got it flaunt it and she can get away with it. As for the hair being "too Britney", I don't agree. It was the one thing that made her look her age, it would have made Britney look 50.

I love Verity. She has a fragility that I find endearing and I do think she has a lovely voice. It's her lack of confidence in herself that holds her back vocally. She blew me away though at her first audition. If she can survive these initial weeks, I think she'll do well.

I really don't think that Verity has the X factor, she is very ordinary and has an average voice, she is nothing special.

i'm glad there haven't only been anti-Verity responses on this thread: one thing i've found on digitalspy boards, especially the Soaps on (hence the name), is that if you don't follow the general concensus of what's good/what isn't, it's made quite clear that you're views aren't welcome, there's a hardcore posse on there ready to dismiss you as soon as you voice opinion. But, as I said, i'm glad of this result.

I think there's alot of 'wealth/richness of talent' in the older trio, that's the closest I can see to being an 'x factor'. The look issue? well, I think I may have been a bit blunt, so i'll clear up what I meant: i agree, if you've got it... but I don't think a 'showy' look suits her fragility, which is the major aspect of her performance. As I said: I think her look ought to be more 60s, but i'm not meaning all mini-skirts and bouffants (she's got it, but she aint got that much!!!), I mean the 'matured sixties'. Look at the likes of Twiggy, Marianne Faithful & Sandie Shaw as they are today -- they all have a very refined class about them, and a healthy dose of very stylish sixties swing, their look has evolved from the sexy young things they were 40 years ago, and I think Verity should recreate her look in this style.

Speaking of Marianne Faithful, i'd love to hear Verity perform he version of "As Tears Go By"... I think it'd suit her well.

I think her voice would suit a carpenters song definitely not whitney houston...i winced through her rendition.

true, Verity has a voice very smooth and perticular, like Karen Carpenter. A powerhouse battering-ram like Rowetta will totally steam-roll over the china doll in a saturday night entertainment show like this, but that doesn't mean much on the grand scale.

I think there should have been a much more defined 'concept' in the X Factor. It's almost universally dismissed as a Pop Idol for anyone. the Pop Idols/Fame Academy's and all their ilk, were all designed to give a talented nobody a chance to shine; to give them their fifteen minutes of fame (well, if you're Will Young your 'few hours of fame'. and if you're Michelle McManus your 'couple of seconds of fame', but you get the picture). I think X Factor shouldn't have been devised so close to that same idea. The likes of Verity & Steve, who are pleasant & all, but not exactly going to set the 21st century teeny-bopper r'n'b obsessed charts alight, are they. Those two especially out of the whole bunch deserve a somewhat classier outlet, not as cheap as ITV Saturday evening talent shows can offer.

There is something I really like about her too. Maybe its her vulnerability, but I am sure its something more. I do like her voice too, although admittedly it isn't as strong as most of the others.

I thought she did the Dolly Parton version. I like her but do not rate her ability. If she finishes in the bottom 2 she will be gone because Sharaon and Louis will vote her out

Verity can capture the publics' imagination because this is her last chance saloon. If she won then it would be a real story.

This is why Voices With Soul have no chance of winning. There's no story for the public to hook on to.

Why did Michelle win Pop Idol 2? Because a fat Glaswegian no-hoper made more of a story.

Verity will get the housewife vote, she is so fragile.
I think she was very brave to sing Whitneys classic as it very hard to sing. I liked the second half of the song and ended up wanting to hear more. Dont think she will win but I think shes in for the next 3 or 4 shows at least,

I dislike Verity immensely. It really grates on me how she cries all the time and this sob story about her ex husband is just a ploy to win the sympathy votes.

I don't know how Simon has the nerve to call Roberta a hotel singer and then back Verity. Roberta is ten times the singer than Verity is
