I know it sounds a bit harsh, but I just don't think he's good enough to cut it.

I'm getting a sense of deja vu here. X Factor was very Fame Academyish last night,...and it looked like X Factor wanted their very own "edgy" "credible" artist, who appeals to the plastic punk generation.

It just feels like they wanted Tabby to be to X Factor what Peter was to Fame Academy.

Jumping about doing air-guitar is not talent.

He's a weak singer, and FFS, he was even miming playing guitar riffs in his performance which made him look even more of a fake talent.

He just looks like all style and no content.
Emperor's clothes all over again.

I have to agree. Whilst I enjoyed watching him tonight - I was sitting thinking Peter whatsisname from Fame academy 2 and Ainslie watshisname from fame academy - neither of whom we hear of.

I know this sounds a bit "out there" but, I wasn't thinking Peter Fame Academy when I saw Tabby, I was thinking Stars in their Eyes kids, pycho mimming thinking he knows everything about rock

Yes, Peter and Ainslie of Fame Academy came to mind. Not because they are alike but I felt that Simon wanted to bring in a new ingredient to X-factor (unlike PI) by allowing a contestant to come on and with a guitar and do rock/punk or whatever. However on Fame Academy they do actually play their instruments whereas it seemed to me as though Tabby only strummed the guitar at the very end. Coming on with the guitar for this song seemed pointless given that he can actually play it.

I think his voice is alright - he has a bit of a husky edge which comes out better when he is singing ballads.

LOL Stars in their eyes came to my mind too, he was trying to do both of the Gallagher brothers at once.

And when he tried to "dance" as it were, he put his hands around his face and made this weird movements and for split second I actually thought something was wrong.

If any of these people who play guitar want to be taken seriously they need to stop wearing the guitar like it's a fashion accessory and actually play the thing.

From what I've seen, Tabby probably can play reasonably well, certainly better than Peter... But Peter did what he wanted on stage, and usually pulled it off - All that hand movement from Tabby just seemed false to me, as though someone else had choreographed it.

Saying that, I do believe he is a guy who probably has travelled in the back of a van with the rest of his band. But he's in danger of looking like a puppet for this show, rather than a genuine guy who loves his music.

Well, whatever he did, I liked it. I didn't like him at first, but I do now

Can I just not like him? He did Maggie May on ITV2 and IMO did it well, he also plays guitar well.

Why is it Emperor's New Clothes all the time for people like Peter and Tabby? Is it impossible to believe that people actually like what they do?

I thought for a moment he had the words of the song written on his hands the way he was gazing at them.

He has zero talent. Certainly no clothes on. The faux "edgy" bit doesnt work. An ersatz Rod Stewart is what comes to mind. The real McCoy was on the othe channel at the same time!

I have to say, i do like Tabby and i'd like him to win becuase the really boring artists who can sing but have no personality constantly win these shows. I'd like someone more alternative to win, but i can't help thinking that he's sold out by appearing on X Factor.

I can see the comparison with Peter from FA because they are both vocally poor. However, while Scabby is only poor, Peter was very very poor.

I couldn't stand Peter from FA but at least he had some stage presence and a bit of charisma/arrogance. Tabby has the talent of a wet rag. Hopefully he'll be voted off next week. That whole "token credible indie/rock" contestant thing is getting quite boring now. I think Ainslie was enough.

But I loved Ainslie. I do agree about Tabby though. I thought he looked quite ridiculous pretending to play guitar. Simon said in the past that he hated Peter on Fame Academy as it just felt the judges were trying to make a statement and that type of singer wouldnt be on a talent show. When a singer has sung flat before he has quite rightly come down hard on them but tonight he stated that it didnt matter.

It's Emperors Clothes because it's all style and no content.
It's the image that seems to give the impression of credibility amongst many contestants who have a more generic, bland pop star image.
But even though the image is there,....they aren't what they say they are on the tin.

Sure they look the part, and that's what probably works well for a while.

Put them in a lineup with other contestants who have an image more in common with the boyband look, and you think "Ah, he looks different, I bet he's good".

But compare them with people they are trying to emulate, and suddenly the Emperor's Clothes start falling apart at the seams.
Then people realise that they believed what they wanted to believe.

I'm not saying I don't like him.
It's just that I think he's a bit shit.

Singing flat and not mattering sounds exactly like Carrie Grant used to say about Ainslie and Peter. If anyone else dared sing flat, the very cutting remarks would be out in a flash.

As I have said in another thread I am willing to give this guy a chance Anslie FA1 started off really badly and in my opinon got so much better. Sharon had never heard of Fame Academy nor Anislie Henderson, so didnt realise that he might only appeal to a certian audience. Hes very amature in his first try but I think could grow in this competation so lets give him a chance.

At the end of the day lets have something different this time, either G4 or Tabby or Rowetta would be good. Even Steve would be good and could sell records. Cant see Verity going longer than 3 or 4 weeks even though she very lovable shes too scared.

Please God not 2 to Go(who I thought were very good tonight) or cassie not another one hit wonder. Voices of soul were just horrid I could not watch

I love these programmes but we need another Will Young to give it a lift as the last Pop Idol was pure Crap.

All in All I think the Judges are brill and love the fact that Simons met his match in Sharon

Will vote every week

P.S. if any one gets to hear the voteing figures please can u let me know thanks

I'm prepared to give Tabby a chance.
It's not as though I'm criticising him because I want him out or anything. It's just that up to now I'm not impressed.
I think there's others who are equally as weak(to me anyway).

But you never know, he might get better.
He seems an okay guy, but I don't want to see the sort of stupid overrated hype for him that Peter got in Fame Academy.
Actually maybe that's what I'm afraid of and maybe I should wait and see if he gets better. LOL.

But that choreographed dancing with his hands, and pretending to play his guitar was a very bad sign.

Mind you I liked Peter at first, and I kept giving him chances, hoping he'd get better, he didn't.
So I've changed my mind again and maybe he's just ran out of chances.
He's got next week to convince me.

Tabby looks terrible (that hair is just repellent and somebody should tell him to stop wearing flares and to never ever wear eye-liner again - he looked like the bastard lovechild of Chrissie Hynde and Frank Spencer last night), while he was "singing", he kept sort of half-lifting one leg like a constipated Jagger impersonator and his air guitar was just embarrassing. And please - anyone who can make "You Really Got Me" sound so unexciting and bland deserves the boot tootsweet!

I did like Tabby last night, but I have to say that your post is inspired. I loved it.

Love your SOH More like this, please?

*Prays that Foureyes doesn't like Auntie Vee either*

TY ZipGypsy, but I'm afraid I do like Auntie Vee (assuming that's Verity). She had a hard job last night, trying to do a Karen Carpenter song (aren't many singers can match up to KC at her finest), and her nerves clearly showed, but she has a lovely clear voice that I really like.

Roberta sang the KC song. Vee did the WhitneyH/Dolly Parton song . Roberta left last night.

Damn - you're right (*Foureyes bangs head against pooter keyboard*).

Well, just scrub out Karen Carpenter and put in Dolly Parton. She's another fab singer few people can match IMO.

Yep. True enough. In Vee's defence, I did think that song wasn't the best choice for her first performance.

I forgot to add...what's up with all the eyeliner? I had to adjust the settings on my TV to accomodate his eyes and sharon's when they were in the same shot.
