Who was the most popular?
The order the votes were read out can't reflect the acts' actual popularity, surely?
I reckon Verity was in the last three purely to cause a bit of a shock reaction. I think G4 or Steve probably got the most votes even though they don't do much for me. |

I reckon 2 Two Go and Rowetta would have also got a lot of votes. It wouldn't surprise me if Verity got a fair few as well.

Do they let the public in on this info and is it monitored by some independent body to ensure there is no vote rigging?

We will not get the info until the book is published. PI2 totally ignored the voting percentages during the show - when the book was published we realised that the results had NOT followed the actual percentages.
As an example, Suzanne was place in the last few a number of times when, in actual fact, she had scored a high percentage of the votes. |

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced the contestants names were called out in the order they were in the voting. It is still early days and people don't start voting in earnest until there are only three or four left in the contest, when you definitely have your favourites. The first two names read out on Saturday were Tabby and Cassie, this makes sense, if the only ones voting were teenagers. G4 came third and Steve fourth. Both these acts have strong fan bases already. Rowetta is not as popular as this board and the bookies seem to think. A poll in the Sun last week put her in second to last place with Voices with Soul.
This is the poll: HUNKY hopeful Steve Brookstein is the contestant with the X Factor, say Sun readers. The craggy-faced musician topped our poll to find out which of the nine X Factor finalists you thought has got what it takes. The 35-year-old soul and indie singer got 26 per cent of your votes. Runner-up was G4 with 16 per cent, followed by Tabby Callaghan with 14.5 per cent, Roberta Howett and Verity Keays both nine per cent, 2 To Go eight per cent, Cassie Compton and Rowetta Satchell seven per cent and Voices With Soul just three per cent. Of course, this was before Saturday's programme. |

It's difficult to tell at this stage where there aren't any clear favourites, but I doubt they read out the acts in the order of popularity. Surely it serves their purposes better to read out a random order and create "tension"?
I suppose you could say though that whichever act is used as the 3rd to last could be boosted by their positioning - if people believe they were close to being in the final two they may well vote for them more in the following weeks? Similarly those acts that are read out early - and seen as "safe" - may be put in a more dangerous position in terms of subsequent votes. To be random and strictly fair would be quite complex - but we've no reason to believe that the powers that be want to be strictly fair. |

I think they left Verity till near the end as most people expected her to be in the bottom two. It provided more of a shock when she was saved from the bottom two. She may have even got more votes than one or two others not in the bottom two but it provides more drama for the show to leave her name being called till the end. They have done this before on Pop Idol and American Idol.
