I had accepted that it was too complex to show.. the most useful to me.. mini pics on the folders of the USB drives..
Now I find that the information is still there on the USB but never shown as pictures..surely not a huge feat?? as
i now find that when copying the Progs back to a new Hard drive the pictures in the Folder Icons and thumbnails now show up as if they had never been anywhere,,As i explained before..Useful for Oggy and Peppa etc

The chapter icons are stored in a different file. They aren't transferred to usb. When you copy a recording back the thumbnails are recreated.

Mmmmmm...normally your sayso is all i Need..but the Drive they were transferred to was a brand new drive... so any information about icons must have come from the USB drive..so how difficult would it be to show when on USB anyway i WONDER?

THe HD progs are still shown in folders but marked as encrypted..

The creation of thumbnails is done nightly at 03:00 by the housekeeping routine and each is is stored in seperate files within a folder with an '.' prefix. Housekeeping will recreate then if missing or if deleted..

I was referring to the Dismal Folder display within the USB File system with no Pics seen..These never get 'Turned On' although it now seems not a hard job to do ..as I seem to have discovered that all the Data needed is actually on the USB.. as I have explained to graham..
When i transferred Folders back from a USB to a Brand new drive.. All the PICS and the Thumbnails too for that matter 'Sprang to life' INSTANTLY no overnight wait.. I enjoyed the experience and now list the pathetic USB display as a Remedy Needed..

The .tac thumbnail files aren't copied to usb nor are they created there. The only files transferred to usb are the .ts (video) and two support files .hmt and .nts neither of these has any graphic content.

Perhaps the question is how did you copy the files over and back - via the Humax UI or another way. The thumbnail folders are hidden on the Humax UI and if you moved "the files" off another way and you left the thumbnail folder there it would appear to instantly appear.

I vaguely recall moaning from time to time about the dismal nature ofthe Folder Icons on the USbs..but i have started a New thread as my new awareness is something i have never seen anyone quote before...but then i do like Thumbnails

My First Humax 320G.. will be in future be in the Den.. mainly monitoring the dish..
Previously it recorded around a year ago.. an 'Eastenders Live' programme by 'Guide and Series' in the Lounge.and A 'Start and then Stop' 20 minutes recording of Ogrady and cliff Richards
.LaTER i then transferred these to a Folder made up called 'Jans' on a Passport 320 G hard drive USB..using the oft quoted method by you G ...with the GUI of the Humax..
THE 320G was powered downand last Monday and taken from the Lounge to the Den BUT remains unpowered AND the 320G USB Drive was left unpowered in the lounge..


Tuesday I bought from Humax a new 1G set.. as I saw value in the 2 year on site guarantee and a change over hard drive fell outside my considerations. When arrived I powered up and updated OTA the software to v17..After checking i recorded a program and erased same.
I then plugged in the aforementioned USB and saw the dismal array of folder icons.
I made a new Folder called 'Jans' on the new 1 G drive and copied in the 2 progs mentioned above..it was probably the next day when i tested the progs from the USB..and immediately was Surprized and puzzled BUt delighted that the JPGs were all there in glorious colour..
Clearly this situation means that the Housekeeping actually Goes thru all of any recently added files.. even those dated over a year ago and produces all the JPGs and Bookmarks..from scratch!! Surely a Button for 'Update Icons' could achieve this more easily? Times of Housekeeping Start are oft quoted but for how long does this last i wonder..Possibly a large transfer from a USB could well overload the time constraint could it not?

Housekeeping will create bookmark images for non HDR recorded programs. I had a recording of the NHL Winter Classic that I downloaded and I converted it from an AVI to ts and created the support files with Raydons AV2HDR app and ftp'd it over to my HDR (I'm using the Media & File Server Bundle) and the next day it had got all the bookmark images like any HDR recording.

I think it's the support files that the HDR uses that triggers the bookmark creation somehow.

The thumbnail are stored un their own folder named as the programme name but with the prefix '.' - such folders are noit normally listed by linux and are not seen on the Humax UI.

I think they are created if the folder does not exist - If you delete the folder they are created again the next night.

Housekeeping runs for about 3-4 mins - Freesat tune, download EPG, create thumnails plus, I think other little, tasks as well like maintaining the schedule - delete old unmatched series after 3 months ....
