Hi,

have the player above and cannot play any movies from Lovefilm anymore. I think this happened after Samsung updates the unit's firmware, but cannot be 100% sure.

All other stream stuff like muzzo, youtube, PictureBox are still working fine.

Lovefilm freezes when I am about to start watching the movie. It starts caching with the circle thing going round but then freezes and only turning the unit off get's it off the frozen screen

any ideas in what to do?

I reinstalled the app and even went as far as resetting the player to factory settings. NOthing helps.

is this app broken on the new firmware?

player is on 1014

I have the same problems here with Lovefilm on Samsung BD-C5900. Have contacted Samsung who advised check latest firmware that I have already got and if still faulty contact Lovefilm. Have had several tweets and phone call to Lovefilm who say they have made a note against this model. I won't hold my breath though waiting for something to happen

hi there thanks for your reply.
yes Lovefilm has told me that they would release a new update within the next 5 days and offered me these 5 days free of charge. Let's see how long it will take.

Same problem with the Samsung BD 5300. It's particularly annoying because the new Lovefilm app that was installed a week or so before the Samsung "upgrade" solved a couple of reliability issues with the Watch Now service. Lovefilm are aware the problem also affects the BD 5300. Good news that they plan an update.

Noticed earlier today that had a pop up on Samsung bluray to say Internet section down for 2 hours tonight for maintenance so maybe tomorrow Lovefilm will work. Mine still locks up every time try to press watch now, clock on screen just stops and have to switch completely off.

Anyone got an update as to when this issue will be resolved ?

I contacted both Samsung and Lovefilm with both saying it was eachother are responsible to resolve the issue. Interesting news that Samsung and Blockbuster have done a deal.

the hardware manufacturers like Samsung do update their firmware every now and then specially blu-ray player to adjust for new bluray content and special features. What I don't understand is how they in the process break the applications. Well whatever happens the applications developers have to adjust their apps to work with the new firmware, look what happens constantly to the antivirus programs, whenever a browser is updated, antivirus software doesn't work very well or not all with the browser until it gets updated as well.

So it is LoveFilm who is at BIG fault here! I'm personally on a trial period with them and haven't been able to use it and it is soon expired. Rest assured that I will not continue with the subscription even if it gets fixed before it runs out. This just shows how vulnerable their system is. They don't support it.

I have the C6500, and the firmware updates to this box at the end of Jan, with lovefilm working for about a week after that.

Since then been looking at black screen, yet my viewing history says I have watched the filmed I requested. I just understand whatever changed on Feb 8th cannot be reversed.

Samsung says it was going to be releasing a new firmware update in the next few weeks,

I am just out of my trail period, and will be canceling prior to my next billing date if I don't get a satisfactory response soon.

Hopefully Blockbuster (when it arrives) will be more reliable !

Nobody seems very eager to take care of their customers from either Lovefilm or Samsung. I won't hold my breath

Yes guess its doomed for the scrapheap for the player. Put me off buying Samsung next time though for blu-ray player.

Update from Samsung :

We are now aware of the issue with the Lovefilm app and have already passed this information back to them to address, as it is the responibility of the app developer to ensure compatibility with Samsung products. As far as I am aware, Lovefilm now use Silverlight - something the C series players and TVs will not ever be able to support. Lovefilm have addressed this on other devices by introducing a new app-Lovefilm Watch Now. I can only assume they will do the same for the C series models but would strongly suggest contacting them to verify this. At present, we are awaiting a release/update from Lovefilm - the issue does not lie with the Blu-ray player.

LoveFilm's response:

Thank you for your patience, we are very sorry we have not yet been able to offer you a solution to this problem with your Samsung device where the video picture in the LOVEFiLM app freezes, and then crashes shortly thereafter.

The information given to you by Samsung in respect to LOVEFiLM not currently being available for Samsung C Televisions and Blurays is incorrect. Watch Now has been available for the Samsung C Series for some time and this is not the cause of the issue. Whilst it is still under investigation, we believe we have identified a problem with the Samsung Firmware which is affecting the LOVEFiLM App and is causing this problem. The Firmware is the software that runs your Samsung device, in a similar way that an operating system like Windows runs a PC.

We really appreciate you bearing with us whilst we work with Samsung on this, and please rest assured we will be in touch the moment we resolve this. In the meantime, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you.

resolved, however please be assured that this is being investigated and
we hope to have a fix as soon as possible. Please be assured that you
will be contacted back once we have any further information.”

They're never going to fix it - both sides are pointing the finger at each other. It's not hard to see why online piracy is still a viable option when paying customers are being ignored like this.

Both Lovefilm and Samsung use each other as advertising how good their product is, yet when you try to use them together, they don't want to know. I only bought my BluRay player last year, it's a bit much to say it's out of date already when one of the main advantages is that it is online and can receive automated firmware updates

Im having the same problems with my samsung BD-C5300 blu ray player. Ive just got it off one of my family and updated the firmware which has never been done. I noticed the lovefilm on the internet tv so thought i will sign up for that. It freezes when i click on the watch now. When i found this forum im not confident in the problem being solved as ive had the same emails as everyone else, lovefilm have given me another month free but this is no good when i cant watch anything. There was maintenance on the internet tv today which i hoped would solve the lovefilm app problem but its still the same. Im fed up to be honest.

I have had the same experience since Feb. I can't understand why Sumsung and Lovefilm can't sort out an update and get this issue fixed. Its ridiculous!

I gave LOVEFiLM an ultimatetum tell me when its going to fixed, or close my account

They decided to close my account.

I won't be buying anything else Samsung in the future, and bought a Roku box instead for on demannd content and subscribed to Netflix !

In fairness LOVEFiLM always gave me a satisfactory repsonse, all that Samsung told me to do was to check for firmware updates once a week, even though the box auto checks for updates !!!

I am agreement that the issue won't be resolved on the C series Blu-Ray / Smart TV's

Samsung make wonderful kit, but that's all.

support is poor as....

after a couple of years since day one of a product they stop supporting it. Mind you that one might not buy their products in the 1st year. if you buy them when they start releasing a new product you might not have any support at all.
