G4 - I can't stand them
I think they're rubbish.
Fair enough, they are great singers, their technical ability may be in the top 3 of the competition. I agree with that much. But I also think "So What? I don't care, they do nothing for me" I think they're rubbish because they are the epitomy of blandness. They are dull, emotionless automatons. It's like they are just a singing machine. You put a coin in the jukebox, and up pop G4 smiling their way through any song you want them to sing. Sickening. And they sing it in exactly the same way they sing every other f**king song. It's as though there was this bandwagon with G4 on the back singing merrily along. Everyone else jumped on, but as hard as I tried I just jumped and missed it and it went right by me. They're just like automatons that sing every single song the same way with a nice big cheesey smile on their face. When I first saw them audition, I thought they were excellent singers and was looking forward to seeing more of them. Now it's just like that Alex Parks phenomenon, where everyone still sings their praises, but I've just got so bloody bored of them. Heard them once, they were good, now I'm just sick of them as they treat every song in exactly the same way. Why?...Is that the level of their talent? They absolutely murdered two classic songs. It was a massacre. "Creep" by Radiohead. "Everybody Hurts" by REM. The treatment of those two songs by G4 was disgracefully bad. They turned two classic songs into complete utter shite. The original songs had much so much power and depth that expressed the human condition with real feeling, that many people could identify with. What did G4 do? They turned them into words with no soul, sung with no feeling, just technically good, concentrating on smiling to their audience rather than concentrating on what the songs actually meant. Choreographed movements that made them look like mechanical singing automatons. Their talent is turning classic songs into sickly sweet mush. Songs that used to generate emotion in you, are now reduced to tedious, unemotional drivel. Think of any of your favourite songs that mean anything to you on a soulful deep level, stick a coin in the G4 Jukebox and witness them dilute it into a horrifying brand of G4 cheese. "But they are so different" So what? I don't care, I think they're shit. Gimmicky one trick ponies usually are different. Mr. Blobby was different. Still didn't make me want to buy his record. They are excellently capable, technically brilliant singers, but are you really going to rush out to buy their records? How many songs on the album will it take before you get a bit restless and bored, and you go through that experience that we are all so familiar with? When you try to convince yourself that it's good, but maybe it needs to grow on you a bit. Maybe you have a bit of a headache and you'll listen to it the next day. You convince yourself that it's good, but it's just you, you have to be in the "right mood" to listen to it to appreciate it fully,....but sadly you never quite get round to giving it a listen again. Then five years down the line when you've forgotten about that old X Factor G4 album, you find it in the loft amongst a load of junk. You see them posing in their white suits, with all their cheesey smiling faces looking up at you on the cover, and you think; "Yeah, I was right first time....it really was shit". |

.....in answer to your overlong rant - that is just your opinion for what it`s worth (a pile of horse excrement). I suggest you leave the room next Saturday when they are on the TV and then we won`t be subjected to any more total drivel from you........and the rest of us can enjoy a master class in vocal performance.

The only thing G4 have going for them is the comedy value of their plain stupidness. I agree with Alrightmate all the way. Terrible novelty act in my opinion, and I can't believe so many people think they are great.
Horrible. |

Couldn't agree with you more, Alrightmate - they're the novelty act mums and dads will like because they're nice, clean lads and some kids will like because they'll think they're listening to opera. Thought they were dreadful on last night's show.

Incidentally, why is this turning into a "I hate G4 campaign" - stop slagging them off and being so insulting. They are unique and maybe that`s why you have a problem. Get over it.

I couldn't agree more, Alrightmate. Technically great but their OTT renditions of music that is just not translating into their style - it's vile. They are like robots, computerised phenomena.
I sooooo agree on the 'they'll be boring after a few songs' view. I also thought they were arrogant as hell last night. Not an atom of doubt that they'd got through. Jonathon seems a nice enough bloke...the others want a reality check. Zzzzzzzz Factor for me. I can't stand them. Dear Pennycandle - still loving your work though , even after all this horse manure!

......plenty of horse manure to spare here Zip - I live on a farm
I think the prize of darnright arrogance last night has to go to Rowetta when she shouted "I`m through, aren`t I?" when leaving the stage after singing.

I thought they were poor as well, and was surprised when even Mr Cowell said they were great (but he can see the £ signs, no doubt). It just doesnt work for me, I kinda liked them first time I saw them, but the novelty wore off quickly.
It just sounds odd to me, pop/rock songs being sung like that, "I dont get it" as they say. It's novelty, it's crappy pop classical. It's as bad as those cheesy dance covers of pop and rock classics. But they're probably a dream come true for Cowell and Walsh, you can see them thinking, "wow, just think of all those songs we can recover done like this!" It'll be interesting if theres time enough for the novelty to wear off with the GP (probably not), or if they'll continue to walk it. If they win, everyone will be sick of them in 6 months as they run out of songs to cover. More disposable Pop...I mean, errrrr, Xfactor idols. |

In agreement with you again Alrightmate. In my house last night. when G4 came on people started going to the loo, reading the paper, putting the kettle on etc. They don't hold your attention.
What you've said on another thread about Tabby and the Emperor's New Clothes could equally well be said about G4. If anyone dares to say they don't like them, you are going to get the "classical snobs" saying how wonderful they are and you are a pleb for daring to criticise. They are in the wrong show, this is not what viewers want to listen to in a popular music contest. Their novelty factor won't last, I expect them to be gone in three or four weeks time. |

The Scream
The cocked head to the side, the large open mouthed singing....Jonny Boy reminds me of this. |

RE: the Classical Snobs will like them statement. I disagree. I think anyone who knows anything about Classical music will positively hate them for dumbing it down to this level. |

There is an advantage to age What I meant by opera snobs was not people who know a great deal about opera, rather those who would like others to think they do
