I wondered why ITV made it a Top 12 and not a Top 10 until I saw there were no ITV shows until number 11.

Interesting seeing how well Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, NCIS and Jeremy Kyle rate for their respective channels in those timeslots. We don't usually get those numbers on a regular basis (BBT on C4Sales aside).


ITV Media had just a Top 10. But then had a paragraph mentioning Jeremy Kyle was 11th with 515k and YBF was 12th so I just posted that Top 12.

There has been no rumours of them starting filming in Scotland yet which would presumably mean there will only be the last 10 episodes filmed in Rochdale shown before the Summer, with the Scotland shark jumping series starting in the Autumn.

Therefore I would say anytime between 15th Feb and 4th April!

There is no consistancy in when Waterloo Road series run, it's started in week 1 before and has started as late as April!

Oh. Is it the first time they've done the chart? If so, they didn't pick the best day to start, from their point of view! I'd assume they'd have programmes in the top ten on just about any other day.

It would be interesting to know whether this is a decision made by the BBC or the EastEnders production team. Does anyone happen to know if the trailers from a few years ago were made by the EastEnders team or whether they were made by the BBC PR team? The lack of (effective) promo for EastEnders in recent times has been rather noticeable though. I actually think last years 'Branning Week' provides the most obvious example of how poor the promotion has been. I wonder if casual viewers were even aware that was happening before it was happening.

I'd assumed they were using the DIY SOS repeats as a placeholder for the new series, but now it seems not.

And its slightly staggering (some might say terrifying) how popular that Jeremy Kyle repeat is (assuming its not a bizarrely inflated one off figure).

The Big Bang Theory's success at teatime is just extraordinary, it really is. I know I bang on about it a lot, but even Friends wasn't doing this well. And remember there are few fewer episodes in rotation - 87 in total so far excluding the new season which is incomplete - so at two episodes per day for six days a week one cycle only lasts about seven weeks before they are repeating themselves again!

NCIS has established itself now in that Monday 9pm slot and seems to have a very loyal audience. I've often wondered if they should take it as a hint and maybe try scheduling it on the main channel there, but I guess the drama competition from BBC One / ITV1 most Mondays makes it unattractive. Wednesdays can be even worse though going up against the second half of Midsomer Murders some weeks which always puts a dent in.

From the officials which I've seen on the BARB website, that seems to be quite a typical rating for the Jeremy Kyle ITV2 repeats. I'm surprised they haven't picked up Jeremy Kyle USA yet and aired it straight afterwards with that kind of lead-in.

It's no one-off. I'm sure it fluctuates a bit but that's probably not far off the average. Episodes are frequently making ITV2's top 10, especially for ITV2+1.

It is what it is. I don't really know what else to say about it without sounding like a snob.

Indeed, despite all the TV snobs around here, it is a popular programme and hence why they continue to make it.

Maybe, because of the cut-backs, they've decided not to start WR until after Call The Midwife finishses to spread out their pre-watershed drama.

If you were Channel 4, where would you schedule Homeland? We know it's starting next month according to C4 Sales. Maybe Mondays at 10pm after Coppers once Party Paramedics has finished?

Apart from that, I can't see where else it could go at the moment. Thursdays will be free soon but that's More4's night for first run US drama.

I'm a TV snob and proud of it but YBF! is on my list of guilty pleasures alongside Total Wipeout and Take Me Out and National Lottery: Secret Fortune. You can't beat a bit of mindless pap on a Saturday night.

Jeremy Kyle, I wouldn't give house room. Nasty nasty nasty programme. They showed a clip on Room 101 on Friday (Robert Webb's choice. Good man) I had to shower for two hours afterwards to wash away the stench.***

Whenever I think of Kyle now I always think of the moment his right-hand man Graham Stainer got all defensive and ditched a Sky News interview midway through at the very mention of his show. I think this says it all really!

You're probably right - doesn't seem right for Wednesdays but could air there I suppose, but both Skins and The Big C have a different demo I suspect to what you'd expect for Homeland so Mon or Thu should be fine. Ideally too as others (might have been yourself actually) with Revenge and Person of Interest both seemingly without a UK home and both looking good of making a second series they'd be perfect buys for C4 to try and really get back in the US import market - as however good Homeland is, I can't see it rating much above the 1.2-1.5m range.

Indeed looking at the figures for the premiere on Ten in Australia this week of both Homeland and New Girl and I think C4 will be struggling to match those.

In fairness to Friends it had been on rotation in that slot for years and years to the point where if you stumbled upon an episode you'd probably already seen it eight or nine times (and could recite the entire episode from memory). Big Bang Theory hasn't quite reached that saturation point yet. It is interesting though that they aren't looking at those numbers and thinking that perhaps Big Bang Theory should be a contender for a prime time run on Channel 4. You'd think if tea time repeats can pull those figures on E4 new promoted episodes as part of prime time Channel 4 (paired with New Girl in a 9PM slot perhaps?) would be a decent performer at least.


Its a tricky one that. I'm almost tempted to say Sunday 9PM or 10PM (without giving any thought to what it would be airing against). If they can get a decent film to lead into the first episode or two then they should have a solid performer on their hands. Whatever they do with it though they need to promote it hard because it is a fantastic series that deserves a decent audience.

They are crap programmes pure and simple. A Year In Provence, which was aimed at an ABC1 audience, was awful too and had terrible ratings. Yet I suppose it's OK to knock this, but don't take on a programme that appeals more to so called C2DEs. Actually most people from this demographic can't stand Kyle, mindless reality shows, YBF and the like.

I like Call The Midwife.

Spectacular stuff for Coronation Street. I didnt even know anything was going on. Something obviously was and tying it in with C/S friendly Monday night has lead to, as others have said, possibly the soap high for 2012. Maybe Eastenders suffered a bit with the extended timeslots on New Years Day and for the funeral.
Strong share for ITV1, the Beeb still managing almost 20% was reasonable and its had a great start to Olympic year overall. Despite what everyone says about RGB, its a shame its plumbed such depths imo.

Now I'm usually against the idea of promoting shows from E4 to C4 as it's not quite the same as the BBC and there is no guarantee of a much bigger audience on C4 than on E4 - but in it's current state the needs of C4 have to outweigh those of E4, and E4 now has a fairly healthy slate of US comedy and could survive without premiering new episodes. Indeed I suspect airing a repeat of last Fridays episode in it's current Thu 8pm slot would still probably rate rather well for E4.

The New Girl scheduling is baffling and probably means it's second run is destined for E4 anyway considering it pretty much seems to be the beginning and end of C4 putting comedy back on a Friday night. Unfortunately though The Million Pound Drop seems to be proving a much bigger obstacle to having Friday night comedy on C4 than Big Brother ever was.

It doesn't necessarily need to be moved though - C4 just need to be smart in their scheduling and actually complement the US seasons - so basically fast track comedy so it airs from Oct-Dec and Mar-May and then schedule other shows, like MPD, around that.
