I don't know, but they have definitely commissioned a new series. I'm sure we'll hear something soon, I'm surprised we haven't already actually. Alex is a loss but it's been through a change of host before and came out of it successful so I think with the right person it's a strong enough format to survive the change.

There are still some specials left to air that Alex did abroad. It'll be interesting to see how those rate now she's had a bit of BBC exposure.

Good night for C5. The 6.30pm news wasn't 0.2 million Cowboy Builders repeats boosted now they aren't repeats from the previous night. Benidorm ER very healthy for 8pm. NCIS great over 2 million, no doubt boosted by the lack of drama opposition on the main channels, and a solid rating for L&O CI

This isn't great news as it means T4 will be cut back, one of the few bits of Channel 4 that is well established. What will happen to the T4 programmes and the Hollyoaks omnibus which have been the mainstay of that slot for years.

US Ratings Wednesday February 15

With a two hour edition of American Idol Fox of course led the night in both the demo and total viewers but it was another downward night only for Idol but broadcast as a whole. Despite expanding to two hours Idol was down a tenth on last weeks one hour show. But in week two of The Voice vs. American Idol it looks like victory will go to Idol if it can manage its weekly upward adjustment in the finals. Its going to be close though The Voice finished with a 6.0 on Monday.

Over on CBS Survivor returned for a new run down 6% vs. Redemption Island and posting the lowest premier for the show to date. Criminal Minds was at a season low dropping three tenths on last week. CSI was up at 10PM though rising two tenths vs. last week. On ABC The Middle tied its season low and was down a tenth, Suburgatory dropped two tenths to a series low, Modern Family dropped a sizeable eight tenths to a season low and Happy Endings was also at a season low dropping four tenths week-on-week. At 10PM a much hyped version of Revenge was also at a series dropping a tenth.

NBC had (another) terrible night. They were beaten for the night in the demo by Univsion but despite that Whitney bizarrely started the night on a upward note rising 7% vs. last week. Chelsea was down to what I assume is a series low and Rock Center dropped three tenths and below a 1 at 9PM. At 10PM SVU hit a series low.

On The CW One Tree Hill was stable (and increasingly in the light of how The CW's season is going canning One Tree Hill looks like a mistake) whilst Remodelled dropped to a woeful 0.2.

Thanks, Andy. At least it grew slightly for its final two episodes. There was a time when it looked as though it might not stop dropping.

Maybe move them to E4, where these sort of shows would feel more at home and soap omnibuses are generally not big raters, as ITV1 relegated the Coronation St omnibus to ITV2 six weeks ago due to low ratings.
I think Channel 4 is in a mess and lacks clear focus now. You get distinctly teenage offerings following programmes aimed at older viewers like The Simpsons following Coach Trip. Also their attempts at yoof based reality shows on E4 and the main channel on Sunday lunchtimes have stiffed badly, so I don't blame them for bringing in something that appeals to an older audience.

Disappointing result for Arsenal vs AC Milan last nig..... oh, wait, we're talking about the ratings? Erm, a 'good' rating for it then in which case. (even if the result was not good...) Super for One Born Every Minute. As for tonight, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see EastEnders in the mid 5m's with a Emmerdale clash and Man U on Channel 5.

Solid, but I think ITV1 will suffer tonight by showing Man City in a slot where usually they can get 7-9 million viewers.

Well, I'm not sure about the Hollyoaks omnibus because in recent years it's been starting dead early, around 8.30 or 9am, and I dunno how much of the target audience is around at that time. Presumably some have moved to the omnibus on E4 on Saturday afternoons which seems a bit more convenient, and it doesn't have signing either, which before people might have tolerated.

T4 doesn't seem to be the big deal it used to be, it's not even billed in the Radio Times anymore and seems to be finishing earlier and earlier. Whereas a decade ago it was a big strand, the shows in it were big names, whereas now it seems a bit pointless when you've got E4 primetime aimed at the same audience. And my lack of knowledge or interest in the current T4 is definitely NOT because I am now way, way out of the target audience.

Maybe just ditch the Sunday morning omnibus on Channel 4 as the ratings must be tiny at this time and axe the T4 thread, which as Steve says isn't a big deal as E4 does the same job better. I don't know why Channel 4 doesn't strand more in the way ITV does with its fairly successful digital offshoots: make Channel 4 like ITV1, E4 like ITV2 and More 4 like ITV3( Film 4 is self explanatory). Now the millstone of BB has gone, they have more freedom to experiment.

BBC One had a very stable night. Extremely stable. To siuch an extent there was barely any change between 6pm and 10.25pm outside of the regional news.

Antiques road Trip picked up a good figure for BBC Two, which had a steady if relatively unspectacular nightacross primetime. I thought Eggheads usually managed above 2m - though I know it got close!

The football did well and ITV1 will be clinging onto every decent rating because it looks like they will be losing Arsenal along with the Manchester clubs. Emmerdale also recorded a good figure; sometimes it can slip below 7m on a football night.

One Born Every Minute drew in another strong number og viewers but Daddy Daycare and 10 O'Clock Live didn't take advantage of the lead in/out. Like Eggheads, The Simpsons is capable of hitting the 2m mark in that slot.

This schedule isn't all about the actual rating. They will always drop soaps for some decent football as the football audience is hard to get whereas advertisers can target the soap audience anytime.

Every other channel has to work really hard to get the audience it gets, as we can see here, the BBC can put on the most blandest throwaway schedule imaginable and get 4.6m tuning in throughout.

Can you imagine 4.6m watching that schedule had it been on ITV1 on Tuesdays?

It also shows that, the flops BBC1 do have are really massive flops, such as The Royal Bodyguard, if such a bland schedule can get 4.6m for barely trying.

Quite clearly the only reason Manchester Shitty are on ITV1 rather than ITV4 where the bunch of losers belong is so ITV1 had an excuse to stick the dramatic two-part Emmerdale on against Eastenders and Coronation Street on against Call The Midwife on Sunday.

It makes no sense at all considering how weak 10pm is across the week now.

This has Jay Hunt written all over it - she's ruining C4 by making it a BBC-lite - exactly what is shouldn't be.

And cutting back T4 would be a huge mistake. It might not be what it once was but cookery shows have already ousted Saturday morning shows from BBC1 and ITV1 and CBBC on Sunday from BBC2. The last thing C4 needs is a lunchtime cookery show on a Sunday.


Considering all the flack the station got for Big Brother Jay Hunt is making much bigger mistakes and ripping the C4 out of C4 and making it one thing it never was accused of at the height of it's BB troubles - bland!

Although there was nothing dramatic at all about Emmerdale considering they made it perfectly clear through interviews and spoilers all week what tonights episode would consist of.

I don't notice when rip off Britain comes on. I think I am still watching the One Show and the same could be said for the programme after that. It all blends into one after a while. Maybe that explains the same ratings

Channel 5 recirveung a lot of negativity on Twitter, with criticism of there commentary being the main complaint along with the fact that it is on Channel 5 in the first place.

Channel 5 had a good night with Benidorm ER looking certain for a renewal coupled with NCIS pulling in a strong figure.

Channel 4 having Sunday Brunch is an disappointment. It's still a channel which has some of the highest quality programmed on TV but is loosing it's identity in it's attempt to be both BBC 2 and BBC 3 at the same time.

ITV had a good night with the football rating pretty well. Tonight should also be good for them given that the soaps are strong at the moment with a big Emmerdale episode airing aswelll.

BBC 1 solid as usual with BBC 2 getting a strong figure for 'The Fixer'.
