Can some of you take a chill pill and stop the bickering and personal insults?

I'm all for a bit of banter and sophisticated put downs, as some may have noticed , but tonight's spats seem a bit childish.

And rather dull reading for the 90% of us not involved!

The eviction crowd is the one thing which can ruin Big Brother for me. They are a vile lot, so much negativity. Why this has never been sorted out, I'll never know. It can put off viewers from watching too.

How do you sort it out though? Short of not having a crowd there I'm not sure there's anyway you can stop it.

Yes I had it the back of my mind that they won when there was a previous live vote-having a strong storyline just before no doubt helps.
Not sure how This Morning eclipses Top Gear these days though.

For the interview, they should have it in a room where you can't hear the eviction crowd. The eviction crowd shouting and booing during the interviews is really annoying.

You're so right Sam. It's a sad state of affairs when I'm made to feel sorry for Nicola McLean who I didn't much like, but the wolves outside were mindlessly savage and these days it's for no other reason than because they can and they are on live telly so they might as well make as much noise as possible. I'd rather they went back to doing the interviews in a much more confined area with a more rational group of fans. We do still exist and if I didn't live so far away I would make the effort to go down.

Ratings data also supports the theory that the nasty vibe of eviction nights could be putting viewers off. They seem to be rating worse than the highlights shows on a regular basis now, which should send a message to the producers. The recaps on Fridays are also a waste of time, basically giving viewers an excuse not to tune into the first part. It all needs serious tightening up because at the moment the live shows are just too lacklustre, which is a shame when the series is as good as this one has been.

ITV made Penn & Teller look like Tommy Cooper on a bad day with their clever sleight of hand.

I know we all argue a bit on here but normally it's at least fairly good natured - some of the stuff tonight is just incredibly tiresome and I'll echo Robbie in saying how dull it is to read. I do love the irony of myscrapbook2011 calling people channel snobs and then childishly using the name 'Channel Snore' in the same sentence, though. Do you not realise you completely killed your (already rubbish) argument with that one?

I said exactly the same thing to my partner. There were several oddities in tonights ceremony. The David Walliams thing being one of them especially as Matt Baker gruellingly cycled the length of Britain for Children in Need! I presume that ITV are keen to give Walliams a lot of positive promotion because he's on BGT. Also, why did Dermot stop short at mentioning The Voice when will.i.am came out? Why was Gary Barlow given a special award? Yes he's done some decent charitable stuff but he's hardly been associated in TV other than The-X-Factor which won anyway.

While DA was a worthy winner, I do think that Costume Drama should get its own category. How can you compare DA and Waterloo Road as the same category?

Also, Brucie quite rightly said "How is Strictly a talent show?"

It isn't. It's an entertainment show and along with Dancing On Ice should have been in the entertainment category.

Why no documentary award? Surely Frozen Planet would have been a more worthy "factual" winner than This Morning. Why wasn't it nominated?

I was confused at the timespan covered myself. I assumed 2011 (or the last twelve months), however we got a Coronation Street clip from Monday and Miranda was nominated... yet her last series aired in late 2010?

I would say they did it "because it was on ITV", but that would not explain The Voice's promotion.

Relax, it's only the TV Awards. People watch for the stars and fashion primarily.

Frozen Planet will get recognised where it counts. The NTAs are just a bit of fun not to be taken seriously.

Dermot did mention The Voice but he seemed a bit allover the place in that link as he was on the floor rather than on the stage.

The time span is surely a year since voting for last year's long list started until the voting for this year's short list ended, so an overlapping period of around 14 months.

The categories are always all over the place as they try to adapt the long established categories to current tv trends but then need to make sure there are 4 programmes in each category.

Strictly obviously should be head to head with the other big 3 regardless of what they call the category. You'd never have TXF & SCD in two different categories.

You can see why Ant & Dec constantly win Best Entertainment Presenter looking at the other nominees. Dermot O'Leary ok, but I wouldn't say Keith Lemon or Michael McIntyre were really 'presenters'.

Im not entirely certain, but isnt the entire process driven by public votes from which shortlists are then derived?

At the end of the day I guess ITV's only business is trying to be popular which presumably means they should be expecting to do well at this type of thing. They have tonight but it isnt always the case. Having said that popular vote these days can more be described as "fan" vote,"habit" vote or even "obsession" vote. I dont think it could ever be described as "scientific" vote.

EDIT:Congrats to Sir Bruce as far as Im concerned though. That bit at the start with his duet with Ant and Dec was a rare glimpse of what tv shiny floor entertainment primarily was pre nineties. Rather than another series of Takeaway A and D should try an old fashioned entertainment/sketch/music show -not like the dreadful Christmas show a few years ago and not entwined with the Cowell extended family.

I was surprised to see a clip of Sherlock shown during the middle of the NTAs, even though it wasn't a nominee. I thought ITV would plug their own dramas with clips during the ceremony but they didnt do that, they plugged a rival drama. How odd!

Frozen Planet fell outside of the timeframe for nominations (I believe it's something like September 2010-September 2011 as that's when the longlist came out). Walliams deserved his award in fairness, and Barlow also deserves his but maybe the TV Awards wasn't the right place for it (although all his charity stuff has been through TV). Don't see why costume drama should have its own category - there wouldn't be many nominees.

No, the presenters category was bizarre too. Sure, Ant and Dec are the only ones worthy of the prize tonight (unfortunately) but why no Tess Daly? She's excellent in Strictly! Why not John Barrowman in Tonights The Night? It was very ITV orientated!

I also wonder if Wossy would have got the special award if his show was still on the BBC!

Well considering Bruce Forsyth won last year then I'd say yes.

For 25 years in TV he probably deserves it.

The shortlist of 4 nominees were the most voted presenters from the long list of over a dozen people. Tess Daly isn't the best presenter around, even Strictly fans say she isn't really that good, so it's no surprise she didn't make the short list. John Barrowman is alright but he's a better actor than presenter and he was in the best actor short list at least.

They did, but it wasnt like there are any episodes now left to be plugged.

A rival drama that's finished its run and won't be back for (at least) another year. If they were running clips of Call the Midwife on the other hand...

I've given up trying to make sense of the NTA's though. They are as others have said best viewed as a bit of fun rather than anything remotely consistent or serious.

Cheers for explaining how they got the 4 nominees. I'm afraid I'm a little ignorant as to how the nominees are chosen so you've at least cleared that bit of uncertainty up! I'd love to meet the people who vote though! I'd probably laugh at them!

The NTA's though dont really measure anything much more than fan worship-even if that fan worship is small but energetic enough to make enough noise to win.

Life On Mars was nominated a few times and if things were fair, should have won at least once but I think it was eclipsed each time by Doctor Who with Tennant at his most popular.

Still dont know how This Morning wins though.
