Any ratings for yesterdays Australian Open tennis final on BBC2? Thanks

With Top Gear coming into the market, Call the Midwife and Dancing on Ice both did really well to rise week-on-week. Channel's 4 and 5 pushed quite low in the 8pm hour as a result.

With BBC iPlayer/ITV Player coming to Sky now, BARB MUST include these in their ratings ASAP. It will become a far too big a chunk not to be included, and ratings will be inaccurate as a result.

iPlayer on Sky Anytime will be included in BARB ratings, just as the iPlayer on Virgin is already. Anything watched through the television set, is counted and measured in BARB.

I notice that report has TG at 4.3m, so presumably doesn't include the HD rating?

I suspect if we had a breakdown for the slot [6.45-8.30] DOI was probably down week on week or around the the same.

Last weeks average was from 6.15-8.30, last nights show was from 6.45-8.30 due to the twist.
Last night had the same share as last week.
DOI goes back to its longer running time next week.

Top Gear squeezed last night, no doubt a lot of females had charge of the remote last night with CTM, WAH, DOI as strong opposition.

Brilliant once again for Call The Midwife, its ratings are even more amazing when you take into account that it doesn't have a XF lead-in (ala DA) and faces tough competition on ITV1.

Is there a chance that next year, we will be saying how doi held up against call the midwife

DoI did very well to go up this week - I think having the couples dance together (thats what the trailers suggested to me anyway) was a really good idea and brought some spark back, least in terms of the run up to the show.

Call the Midwife is incredible. BIG BIG show. Always surprising how quickly some shows take hold.

Have we had any "TV" ratings for the semifinal?

ITV have become a little bit too complacent with it but hopefully this is the wake up call that they need to do something about it. Dropping below 6m isn't good.

Call it a rip off of SCD all you like, but its easy to forget that DOI was a huge success when it first started and the first or second series was the most watched talent show of the decade at the time of airing. It used to be ITV's big show but it just didn't grow any further when the other talent shows grew out of proportion, and has subsequently sank due to their complacency. The entire programme needs reformatting and rescheduling.

Not that I've seen, but I think the amount of traffic to the BBC Sport pages says it all. People were mostly at work and not home to watch.

In other sports ratings news, Broadcast notes that opposite the crowd pleasing footie match on ITV1 on Saturday, BBC One's Athletics coverage could only muster 980k/8.2% across the three hours from 1.30pm.

Sunday night shows how the main channels can still dominate an entire evening even without the soaps. Excellent timeshift for Call The Midwife - at least we know one of the Top 20 shows for 2012 already.

At least it's something new as well. I mean, we could probably correctly guess the other 19 now. Olympics this, Olympics that, X Factor, SCD, Celebs in the Jungle, etc etc etc...

Birdsong is a curious one. I saw most of last nights episode without having seen the first one. On the face of it, its setting and its premise I was expecting a higher rating. Looking at it though, it was more BBC arty than ITV populist. I think ITV would have cast it differently and given it a different feel, not that its meant as any criticism of the cast or the BBC.
CTM did magnificently again. I think the next series is eight episodes and they should not think of doing extra as it could get a bit samey. I was going to say I was surprised that DOI increased but it was shorter-though the twist(whatever it was) doesnt appear to have gone down all that well.
The Tennis in the end was so long it became rather ridiculous -I think I managed two meals during the timespan.

Now I need to think. Apart from Doctor Who when was the last time BBC1 had a drama getting over 10m until this year with Sherlock & Call The Midwife? Must be the revived Auf Wiedersehen Pet?

The top rated show of the week!

1. Call the Midwife 10.47m
2. Coronation Street (Mon 8.30pm) 10.23m
3. EastEnders (Mon 8pm) 9.96m

(all include HD)

Is it at all conceivable that Call the Midwife might break the 11m mark by the end of its run?

These are sensational figures, considering it has tough opposition. If it had the sort of lead-in bequeathed to Downton (DA is so last year now...), I cannot begin to imagine what numbers it would be getting.

It's not as if it's that good!

Wonder if BBC1 have had any thoughts on when they might launch series 2. Christmas Day at 8pm might cause panic at ITV, even against Corrie...
