The next series of Downton is casting some American family members. Maybe they have bagged a big Hollywood star?

or Hannah Spearritt as Abby Maitland? when a portal to another time opens, a baby Stegosaurus hides in the basement of the Downton Abbey Manor, in the next episode Abby comes thought another portal, and attempts to rescue the Stegosaurus, but in doing so traps herself in Downton Abbey Manor.
am I getting close? |

Talking of which - that ITV Call The Midwife rival mooted earlier will likely feature Alan Carr in his first lead acting role as the head of a new all male midwife practice in Crewe.
It will recruit ex male cast members from Hollyoaks and be run by nuns from the Order of St Getemoff. I would imagine an ITV take on the concept might envisage that as appealing to its audience.. |

Agreed. And it's like Marcus says on Twitter, the show will be going out mostly at 9pm or 10pm when I'm guessing the Olympics will be in highlights mode, so it shouldn't be affected. Especially if ITV1 enters repeat mode. He does say no definite dates have been set though for the upcoming summer run, so maybe they won't clash at all. Auditions begin this weekend in Cardiff.

So BBC doing VERY well with the drama so far this year, now two launches this week. Personally I think Prisoners Wives is going to be the next success story - the DSRPG seems to be predicting 5m approx, I think it will be higher and do very well.

Place your bets. Downton Abbey has cast somebody for the new series and the news is under embargo until 8pm tonight. I wonder who it could be?
Amy Childs? David Jason? or, if there are plans for American cousins... Robert Vaughn? K |

Birdsong is a curious one. I saw most of last nights episode without having seen the first one. On the face of it, its setting and its premise I was expecting a higher rating. Looking at it though, it was more BBC arty than ITV populist. I think ITV would have cast it differently and given it a different feel, not that its meant as any criticism of the cast or the BBC.
Quote:
Birdsong shifted a decent 1m, but I hoped it might do better given the tough competition.
Perhaps hasn't lived up to expectations, either in terms of critical reception or pure numbers. But 7m for ep 1 and probably low 6m's for ep 2 isn't really to be sniffed at. And I thought it was magnificent. Quote:

Can someone please explain the story in the Sun today (other than by saying - it is the Sun
)They have a piece on The Magicians in which a reporter goes behind the scenes and does the tricks they did live on Saturday (eg the glass walking). But it claims 'The BBC 1 hit....pulled in 5.2 million viewers, beating ITV 1 rival Take Me Out'. Where do those figures come from? They are not what is on this thread yesterday. |

The first episode of Upstairs Downstairs had a screening today (I wonder why ITV chose to announce DA's new casting tonight ), which is getting some great reviews on twitter, TV & Satellite tweeted "look out for it next month" so I hope they start it after the last episode of Call the Midwife to give the best lead in possible.

Inside Men looks rather slick. The demos should be good, although I can't see it doing big numbers, 4.5m-5m maybe. |

I agree about Prisoners Wives, it's not as dark and "gritty" as I expected when first announced, and previews suggest it's more "soapy" not in a bad way. I've seen good reviews for both of the new dramas so hope they both do well.

There is a certain comic elegance in David Jason's next TV comedy venture being set in a funeral directors.
![]() Anyhow, I think Thora Hird and ITV got to that one many many years ago. And anyone who remembers it will still bear the scars...

If Fellowes wants to add some BAFTA winning talent to the cast of Downton, there's always those nice chaps and chappesses from The Only Way Is Essex.
http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ll...3nkxo1_500.gif Though they might find the DA storylines a bit dumbed down for their liking....

Well that was a properly competitive night - especially at 8pm. Amazing that Top Gear had no impact - even though its not exactly a crossover audience, you'd still think the men would take control in some households and drag the ladies from CTM and DOI. Evidently not!
Call the Midwife just continues its incredible start. A massive, self-reliant hit straight out of the gate - and still growing! You could try that dozens more times and you wouldn't get the same result. The BBC drama bods must be ecstatic. Also, a solid performance from Birdsong - excellent TV if you're into that kind of thing, but I can understand that the arty slow silences would have turned plenty off too. Good to see the BBC had really invested in it, though - as lavishly produced as anything I've seen on British TV, with really compelling war scenes that made Downton's last year look a bit second rate. And it's not often you can say that. Some Top Gear viewers were clearly stuck elsewhere last night - but it still did well, and will time shift hugely as usual. Really, you'd think the show would be showing more signs of age now - but its still so far ahead of everything else on BBC Two its unreal. ITV can be pleased that their stalwart line-up was up and stopped the bleeding of the past couple of weeks. Easy to announce their death on the back of a few weeks trend, but in the scheme of things they still make for a damn solid Sunday night for ITV. |

Yeah. I'd say nearer 6m for PW. It could do quite well if it manages to attract the younger female demo along with the predictable 'older' BBC1 audience.

Prisoners Wives seems to be a bit soapy and a bit gritty, hence being able to attract two different types of audience. In that way it's similar to CTM. Obviously it's ratings won't be in the same league, but I think it'll be a hit. And it has had very good reviews. I think the title will attract some people. Inside Job I don't think will do so well on Thu - 4-5m I reckon for that.
And I see The Body Farm has been axed. No surprise as its recomission wasn't announced when Death In Paradise's was and DIP started after it. The Body Farm axed after just one series. |
