Corrie set Twitter alight - six of the top trends were Corrie-based throughout the last 10 minutes. And the soaps forum is extremely busy. I think it's going to get a very big rating. It deserved it - it was possibly the best set of episodes since the anniversary, just wonderful.

Royal Bodyguard had about 3 trends as well though...
Twitter bad...twitter very bad... It will do very well though - just...twitter bad...twitter very bad... And yeah I noticed the Royal Bodyguard trends but we all know why that's such a talking point! The annoying thing is that its ratings are only staying above the 2m mark because so many people want to see what all the fuss is about! |

Corrie's trend is the most remarkable though considering Corrie is only watched, according to Glenn by elderly retired miners wives in Gateshead and non-computer owning E demographic from South Shields.

Celeb BB is great on Channel 5 because they just let the housemates get on with it. On Channel 4 in the latter years, there was a lot of censorship and Big Brother would break up arguments early on and not give the housemates alcohol. So Channel 5 has had a big influence in the success of the current series. Lots of buzz online tonight on all the social media websites, hopefully it's replicated in the ratings.

I'm surprised they didn't try and hold the trial back for BGT week. It wouldn't be pushing the realms of credibility to have such a gap between charge and trial, would it? If need be, they could've had a mistrial first time round, delaying the trial itself for BGT week.
I'm assuming that ITV1 will schedule BGT week in the same way as it gurantees them a 8m audience across two and a half hours. I wonder what the storyline will be for it...the Stape plot wasn't exactly brilliant last year. ). No idea what the plan is this year, but I wish they'd go back to the old scheduling and run BGT 8.30-10.00pm with no results show. However looking back, Corrie outrated BGT most nights last year in the BGT sandwich so I can't see them changing it. And yeah the Stape plot wasn't the best, but we did have Becky smashing Tracy's door down with a sledgehammer!! ![]()

There was a time Phillip Schofield wouldn't shut up about DOI ratings on Twitter. Yet he has been strangely quiet today....

Less red, more black! It's the Top 20!
Most Watched Shows of 2012 [Top 20 - Officials] 19 - 5.43m - NEW TRICKS (12/01/12) - BBC1/HD] BBC1 15, ITV1 5. Good start to the year. ![]() Quote:
Call The Midwife performed brilliantly and BBC One have a strangehold over the slot now; they still can't bring themselves to drop Antiques Roadshow or Countryfile...any chance of some originality there???.
Do you not crave some originality at 10pm during the week, just for a change? CF and AR still get blinding good audiences, and are as much a staple of the Great British Sunday as a big lie-in, roast beef, a brisk walk, and the News of the World. Oh, hang on.. ![]() Quote:
I wonder if Pip "golden boy" Schofield has been tweeting on a Monday about his amazing ratings (slump)? I guess not.
Hm. Interesting... ![]() Quote:
We've seen Ballykissangel get 11m+ in the Sunday 8pm slot (1996-98) when it was away from Heartbeat. After Series 3, it moved against Heartbeat and it was destroyed (the departure of Stephen Tompkinson and Dervla Kirwan hardly helped).
I recall that Lovejoy (1990s version) was an 11m hit from episode 1, but of course it did air first in the mid 80s for one series but flopped and was axed - think it was an 8pm Wednesday series. I vaguely recall that it was the increasingly staggering success of Antiques Roadshow in the late 80s on early Sunday evenings that prompted someone at the Beeb to think they should have a second crack at it. |

Big Brother hopefully rated well last night. Episode was well publicised and it was probably the best episode, in terms of drama, in years

at the CTM rating. Never expected it to grow so much. 8.6m is a massive result for BBC1 and ITV must be worried about the DoI ratings which are very poor. ITV looks like its finally losing grip on its Sunday nights. They should have split it up over the weekend. Major, major mistake this year. It's probably going to settle at around 7m now for its run which would make it, its worst rated series ever! Next year some BIG changes will have to be made as those figures are totally unacceptable for this show. |

Yes, from memory, I think Hetty Wainthrop Investigates preceded Ballykissangel (1994 IIRC) and was another Sunday 8pm banker.

I see the new Room 101 gets an extended edition on Sunday nights now. Aren't these extended editions going a bit far. If you are a fan of the show what are you supposed to watch? The original showing, the extended one (in a late night slot so probably recorded) or both to see a few extra jokes scattered among the episode.
If there is enough decent content to make the extended episode, why not show it all in the first place! It really annoys me. I might fire off another Sykes email tirade to someone. ![]() Quote:

Who wants to take a bet on episode 2 of Call The Midwife passing 10m in the final ratings and beating Sherlock's 10.66m? I want to say it'll happen but I'm hedging my bets.

The problem is ITV1 cannot afford to roll out new quality drama night in, night out. Hence their reliance on reality. Even BBC One cannot afford top quality drama every night and they're supported by a guaranteed income.
Of course the real concern for ITV should be that these talent shows are now seemingly playing to diminishing returns. They haven't launched a new one successfully for years and the hits they did have aren't exactly looking healthy. It seems to me (and I can't be alone on this) that there's a whole world of unscripted television that ITV could be exploring but don't. We've almost formed a culture where everyone is just encouraged to hold their nose and endure reality television rather than actually enjoy it or be entertained or informed by it - 'everyone knows its a bit shit but its needed'. And then I come back to my point from yesterday that perhaps ITV should give some consideration to supporting their schedule with some foreign imports. |
