Customs and leaks of ICS for Galaxy S2 still look glitchy to me + have seen a lot of problems still.

Samsung did say GS2 will get ICS by the end of Q1 2012 - But it could be summer at the rate UK roll-out goes.

Unbranded UK is still on Android 2.3.4.

For me it's a take it or leave it on the SGS2. When it comes it comes, but I won't be yearning for it.

I'm with Orange so I'd expect it to be available sometime in 2013.

I don't care, though. 2.3.4 works fine for me.

In terms of things I'll notice, bit faster/smoother, prettier interface. Better voice-to-text. Handy to manage network traffic by app. I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker either way.

I have used one of the early releases of ICS on my Galaxy Sii so thought I would share my views.

The interface is a lot smoother to navigate, things like switching WIFI, Data & Airplane mode on and off are up front and quick to find.

The new data manager feature is a wonderful bonus for people stuck on limited data packages.
The battery usage manager is also much improved.

On the camera there is a new Panoramic sweep mode (press the shutter and sweep along the horizon). This works fantastically well and is a wonderful bonus.

Overall speed and battery improvements. Over a weekend at home on wifi - I did not need to charge it once. Despite using it to play some CPU intensive games and checking facebook/email on it while watching tv. So a massive thumbs up there too.

Being a Galaxy Nexus owner and having experienced the last few Android versions (on previous phones and tablets) ICS is a BIG improvement on what has come before. It has taken the best features from gingerbread and honeycomb and put them together very well !

Some nice new features but, more importantly, the whole experience seems more fluid and integrated.

Of course leaked and custom ROMs will be buggy but the proper ICS version is pretty stable and very fast.

The problem is that nobody knows for certain what tweaks the handset manufacturers will make and what bloatware the phone companies will add.

With previous Android versions 'stock' android has been fairly basic and (dare I say) a little ugly - hence the need for so many custom launchers and apps/widgets. I can honestly say that a few months in Im still using the stock launcher !

If you are considering the GS2 id recommend that you also check out the GN. each has pro's and con's .... but the Nexus will be guaranteed regular software updates for the next year or two whereas id wager that the GS2 wont get updated beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.

Well... I just went to my camera now - Went to Settings and selected Panorama. Without holding the shutter I sweep, it detects and voilą.

So a "new feature" is probably down to the fact you can do it by just holding down the shutter ? Which is basically a feature to do a old feature differently.

I just tried that and yes it does work on my 2.3.4.

Is this the same argument we had when deciding whether to upgrade our Windows PCs from Windows 95 to 98? It isnt just a case of aesthetic changes (granted 95 to 98 didnt look that much different) but the vast majority of improvements were under the bonnet. Same with ICS in relation to GB. ICS is truly a great great improvement over GB and this opinion is based purely on playing with a beta 4.0.3 ROM.

not sure about that - ICS does look to have some nice features.

Battery life and Performance are supposed to be better but I have seen mixed feedback.

I updated my S2 to the official January 2.3.6 version (Italy) and Its so much better than the open EU 2.3.6 I had before.
So good in fact I'm sticking with it until a the official ICS comes out - proven and reliable first.
This Italian 2.3.6 is the best version of GB so far according to some.

You can get it from Sammobile.com Firmware.

That the trouble with Android what is ever on your phone when u buy it, is what will be on your phone for ever! If you want upgrades at same time as everyone else then stick to iphone and itunes and you will never be cast adrift!

No sense in any of that statement. The iPhone still has the same operating system on it as it had on day one - IOS -.All it's had is updates. The look of IOS hasn't really changed since day one.
Android phones have also had their OS updated on a regular basis. It does, however, have as many different looks as you want......
Fanboy wars are one thing. Silly statements are another matter.

lol ....... so Siri works on all iphones does it ???

Most Android phones get a few updates. The HTC Desire (for example) got 3 major android releaes .... and with the Nexus you get regular updates

Android isnt the problem. delays are down to manufacturers and network providers rather than google.

Plus Android has a huge developer support meaning that often phones many years old get new updates !

Next you'll me telling us that everything Apple 'Just Works' .... try telling that to the posters of numerous iPhone problem threads here ....
