Another winner from the No. 1 Steve Jobs choirboy.

Strange how I have both ICS (Beta only as a nandroid backup...I restore it when I fancy an ice ream sandwich) and 2.3.6 and Sense 3.5 ported from a Sensation XL on my Desire S whereas when I bought it had 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1.

What about my iphone 3G? I can't load iOS5 on it, I've been 'cast adrift' etc.

This statement is as ridiculous as your grammar.....I had a Nexus One which was periodically updated from 2.1 (it's original software) all the way to 2.3....3 Android versions...and if it was still alive I'd have put 4.0 on it by now....

I also have an iPhone 3G and everytime I try and load iOS5 the phone bricks and requires a total wipe....

I hear that on the Computing forums as well. I do use a Mac and most of the time it just works but I have had the odd problem too, usually relating to my Wifi or slow software causing the SBBOD (for Windows users - that's the spinning beach ball of doom, Mac equivalent of the hourglass ). If every Apple product just worked there wouldn't be a "Genius" Bar at every Apple Store or problem threads on sites like MacRumors.

couldnt you just load a custom iOS rom/operating system onto your iphone, and do away with what the manufacturer wants you to run?

If you have the 3G, rather than the 3GS, then iOS 5 isn't designed to run on that phone. The last OS Apple released for the 3G was 4.2.1. If you're trying to load it on a 3GS and it's wiping stuff, it's possible that you're unplugging from iTunes a bit too quickly. There's a pause in the process which isn't obvious and happens before all your apps music etc is copied back to the phone. It's caught a bunch of people out.

And that is exactly the point. Even the very first android phone, the G1, has had ICS ported to it:

The huge community support on android means there is always a way.

Pretty sure Zack06 was just taking the piss out of the Apple fanboy.

With the popularity of apples iOS devices, isnt there a simalar developer 'comunity' simalar to XDA developers making custom roms for iPhones etc?

Well of course there is if you want to customise your phone yourself, but for ordinary people with Android phones, who aren't technical, that's not an option.

Not really true....An android phone is still extremely customisable out of the box. I doubt you will find two android phones that look the same. There are many launchers to choose from and other customisation apps.
The iPhone is a good phone, but non customisable unless you jailbreak, therefore, leaving the customisation to those who have the technical ability and desire.

Why people can't decide on the phone they want and be happy is a mystery.

Absolutely agree. However, and you cant deny this, the Apple user has developed a reputation for being superior and arrogant, dismissing anything not born in Cupertino usually with wild claims (especially the evergreen apple "just works) and being prone to show off their handset. Now most of this is stereotype, unfortunately some on this forum have lived up to this reputation. Android fans naturally see fit to rebuff all the wild claims by Apple fans and it does end up as a pissing contest.
