Like all twists on shows like this, it's purely to manipulate the outcome, whilst hyping the show, hoping it pulls in more ratings. Win/win for them.

Personally, I hate the twist, but I hate all twists, for the reason above. It just spoils the show for me.

I think it's very clear who will be saved, and who won't be.

However, I think Corey will go home, and would have gone home with or without this twist - so I'm happy the twist happened this week, rather than when an elimination was less clear. It softens the blow a bit.

Edit: I wonder if that's why they scored Chemmy so low this week? To justify putting her with Corey? Of course it is. All makes sense now.

It will bring some added excitement and something different to the show.
The pairings sound good - and the public still get to vote out of the bottom six.
Sounds fine to me.

Less cash for ITV though! Seems odd doing this as public will only have 6 to vote for and if their favourite has already gone through then they won't pick up phone to vote!

With producer interference like this, DOI is going the way of Big Brother.

Do judges just vote who to put through out of each pair - or give them a score out of 10.0 as uswell

The result is usually public vote combined with judges score. If the judges just vote to put through, then the results for the 'bottom' six will be based on the two with the least public vote and public vote only

I wish they'd write things in a simple and easy to understand way. Last night it sounded totally different. Could do a better job myself if I understood it 100%!

no the judges pick the celebrity they like best out of each pair and then the public will decided out of the six remaining celebs who will go through to next week.

Not necessarily. Nobody is safe so fans of the 6 will need to come out & vote regardless of how good they are. Not been much point in voting for likes of Matt or Jorgie up to now but whichever of them is up for the vote on Sunday their fans will really need to vote for them

No it isn't. Maybe it would be fairer if the couples were drawn out of a hat or something like that? Don't see the point in it really though, and rather watch the old style show with no twists!

Not sure about this twist yet - it doesn't sound as horrible as the team challenge last year (which seemed to be all done to give Laura a boost when her public support wasn't great IMO) but could go either way. I do think its been done to 'scare' people who like the good skaters to stay into voting, so hopefully we'll be waving goodbye to Corey or Rosemary next week!

I wish DOI could just be a skating show again without any gimmicks like this... but that's probably not going to happen.

I used to like the show done straight without twists, which I think are often messy and unnecessary. There were so many twists last the show almost disintegrated. I would prefer the teaching and examination of one new element each week.

Not sure about the main show ratings but going by reaction on the Ratings thread on DS, it seems to be doing poorly and the results show in particular is struggling. I haven't watched any of the results shows this series because I've been watching Sherlock (and now Birdsong, although maybe not next week!).

It becomes annoying and frustrating when they do twists. "Twists" are just another way of saying, "we, the producers, want more control of the voting this week."

DoI already have a 50% say in the vote. That's plenty already. Forget silly twists, concentrate on the skating and bring back the required elements.

It's an exciting twist, but it really is unfair on some of the dancers. Two of last weeks bottom four are given immunity, but either Jorgie or Matt isn't?

Plus, the judges have complete dominance this week. The public "save" four people this week, but the judges "save" 7...

Not sure what to think of this twiat, it could be good or it could be bad. personally i think its too early to bring in a twist like this and maybe they should have left it for a few more weeks when everyone has had more experience.

it also smells of desperation as for the last 3 weeks both DOI and the results show have been beaten in the ratings by BBC 1 so they have thought they need a twist go get more people watching.

also this week there was too much dancing OFF the ice and too little dancing ON the ice which made each dance seem very short.

I know that camera angles can be deceptive, but I always get the impression that the ice rink isn't all that big so is having two couples on the ice at the same time a bit risky? Also will it restrict the sort of routine they can do?

This twist has obviously been planned from the start. The short show length that everyone spotted before last weekend's show isn't something they drummed up when they saw the viewing figures.

This sort of twist can only work early on in the show, as removing half of the contestants from the public vote doesn't leave very many. I'm assuming their thinking is that at this stage, things risk getting a big predictable and while you might not be losing the worst contestant each week, the top five or so are assumed to be safe. This kind of twist is a way of making everyone more vulnerable again.

I'm personally not that keen on twists in general, but this is better than the ones they had last year.

So as we're stuck with it, let's try and focus on the positives of the twist:

- The same music but different routine idea is genius. We all know how hard it is to compare a fast routine with a slow one, and that slow ones sometimes make people look better than they are by giving the celeb more time to execute effectively. This way people have to show the same interpretation and musicality skills.

- Pairing people up by skill level is about the fairest way they could have done it. If you put Jorgie with Corey, then Corey would know he was doomed from the start. This way there's at least a vague tension about it - specially when you know that Chemmy's been criticised for her interpretation and that Corey was praised for his originally.

- Having fewer couples to vote for will focus the vote more effectively and probably encourage more people to pick up the phones. Some peeps on here have already said they haven't felt Matt was in fanger so far, for example, but that they'll vote for him if he loses the judges' vote this week.

- The shorter show length is helpful in remembering everyone's performances. By the end of last week I was losing the will to live a bit.

I'm still not brilliantly keen on removing the public's ability to decide exactly who should be up for elimination, but if it has to be, then I'm going to view it with an open mind and see if the above points make it work

The six left are not the bottom six - presumably there will be a bottom two out of that six - who will skate again for survival as before.

Surely the judges will have been able to choose who they will keep from Monday as a form of tactical voting? Therefore to give the best chance of the worst skater going they should give the less well known skater immunity. People may not agree with me but I would put Scott, Andy. Heidi, Jennifer, Corey and Chico in the bottom 6. Looking at that grouping I couldn't see Corey not being in the bottom 2 probably with Heidi purely on popularity.

They said the partnerships were based on skating ability so why is Andy against Rosemary I would have put him against Chemmy and Corey against Rosemary
