I expect Jorgie to go through 2-1, with Robin voting for Matthew, because he is besotted with Matthew's use of his blades - but how he could give him 1.5 marks more than Jorgie is still bewildering.

Robin was right

I am a little confused.....

so are Matthew and Jorgie (and the remaining celeb pairings) skating together or are the skating on the ice at the same time with their pro partners, to the same piece of music or are the all coming out individually and skating but to the same music?

So that will shorten the show by half = 1 hour of extra adverts.

The show length is shorter anyway - its an hour and a half instead of 2+ hours

I don't think my post came across as it was meant to, judging by the replies to it

I understand the rules perfectly (thanks for explaining it though, I understand my post came across as a question but it wasn't meant to ). I was pointing out to you that the public don't get to vote out of the bottom six - just the six the judges choose to be in the bottom six, which I find unfair and just another way of manipulating who they want to stay for another week.

I was thinking this. Imagine if one of the celebs crashed into the other and brought them down?

Also, I dread to think what the camera angles will be - and how they will show both couples skating at the same time to the viewing audience.

Still, I'll watch with interest to see how it pans out.

They will be skating at the same time? I can't see that working as after one couple has been given immunity how can you remember how the other couple did?

I still think they will try to be tactical to try and get Corey out somehow

Could they do a split screen

Karen was on Alan Titchmarch today discussing the twist and from what I could make out the matched couples will start on the ice together before one pair will do the first part of routine then the other couple will do the second part.
Usually a song is cut down to 1minute 30 ish in the first few weeks but songs are actually longer than this so basically we'll get to probably hear a full song but with each couple skating a bit each.

It has the potential to be very messy, especially with the standard of camerawork we have come to expect so far.

Indeed the linked report is hopelessly vague. Do the pro and celeb skate together, or is it a solo skate. Do they have the same routine to skate? It just says to the same music. A solo skate would just expose those who didn't have the dancing or skating ability of who they were skating against. Even Jorgie and Matt can't skate each others routines - he will skate faster and do less, she will dance and act better and, if its a pairs skate she will try and do a lift he can't. - how do you mark that? How can you compare Chemmy and Corey or their pairs. As T and D have to choregraph both routines, they decide either way . A common routine for both Jorgie or Matt is always going to favour one of the other, and mean neither can do what they do best. A different routine for each of them means T and D effectively decide who wins because the best choregraphy will win - whether its a solo or pairs dance or half a dance. If one pair gets half a song, and the other the other half, how do you ensure that both halves have the same potential when most music packs its punch at the end?

It looks like another daft idea dreamt up by a weak runner. The top two will be safe unless one get no votes, and falls over in the skate off. All it does, is make it more likely that the mid field will go and the weakest will stay - which is exactly what they don't want.

You do wonder why all these shows have a deathwish and start fiddling with a formula that works - particularly with the example of big Brother's decline after failed twist after failed twist. They have a good competion going , and the right poeple leaving every week, why risk busting something thats working?

Not bewildering. Robin's choice anyway!

The charitable view of his mark was that he was trying to even the scores and not call one as the leader. But this twist does force them to make a direct call who is best, too early, only a week later. Its not clear either what that will do. Some of the voters seem to register anything they are told and believe it even weeks later whatever happens, others may go for the chaser, if they emerge as the best later, and look like they come from behind.

Thanks for posting. Sounds like we will be able to watch each couple individually, which is good news.

We will only see what the camera chooses to show us. How we cannot decide if a couple is worth saving if we only see part of the routine? Do we have a celeb/some celebs needing the help of the judges to keep them in for another week? Strictly use the Swingathon to show the public the order the celebs should be placed in this year. Once the Swingathon results were added to the score board the order was identical to the final result. Will the judges be showing us they favour certain skaters ie a subtle way of 'guiding ' the public?

Worse you will only see what T and D have choreographed - and people dancing to one piece of music that will have to suit two of them. If the music lends itself to something balletic, it will suit say Jorgie, if its lightning fast it will suit Matt. If it requires acting it will suit the actor more than the skier. if it starts slow and builds to an exciting end, who ever gets the end, with moves to match, will be more memorable to the voters. If the choreography is different to the same music, it just leads to a false comparison because it will sound more lke they are on a level playing field when they are not. On DOI, you can't even do what you could do on SCD - and give two people the same routine - because here the sexes perform even more different roles.

It's true about the different sexes doing totally opposite routines, I love Jorgie but let's face it Matt can do a lot of lifts with her that Emmerdale boy might not be able to do with his. The judges need to keep popularity in mind when choosing immunity as like Strictly the more popular/well known skater/dancer will make it through who is not always the best. Some of them if they don't have immunity may find it difficult like free running guy, Chemmy or possibly the one from Dallas. Corey is a rubbish dancer but may have the Russell Grant/Todd Carty under dog thing about him

So you are Mister Rubbish & Unpopular.

Firstly you find yourself in a skateoff and because you are rubbish the judges reject you.

Then you go to the public vote and being unpopular, they reject you.

Being now in the bottom two having been rejected by both the judges and the public, you get to do another skateoff and because you're still rubbish the judges reject you again.

You return to your other life with your ego in tatters.

So - the pairings:

Matthew/Jorgie

Very close match for the judges but I'd expect them to go for Jorgie. I shouldn't imagine either of them to come unstuck on the public vote either but Matthew's more or less guaranteed to sale through so the judges would be risking nothing putting Jorgie straight through.

Jennifer/Sebastien

Slightly trickier but both seem okay at the min. Could go either way but my instinct is that Jennifer will get the nod and Sebastien should be safe with the public.

Chico/Sam

They should both have no problem getting the public vote so the judges should go for the better skater which is Chico.

Heidi/Charlene

This could be a bit of a headache. Think the judges may well go for Heidi and hope that Charlene can come through another skate off if necessary.

Andy/Rosemary

Judges may go for Andy to try to prevent a possible Seb/Charlene skate off. Rosemary could be the sacrificial lamb here even if she skates slightly better than Andy.

Chemmy/Corey

Chemmy should be able to wipe the floor with Corey and his rebound vote may not hold for another week.

This hopefully gives us a Rosemary/Corey skate off but if not, one of them at least should be there to avoid anyone better being eliminated early.

I just can't stand all these 'twist' weeks they get on my nerves!! I don't think it's fair on the celebs who are still learning the basic skating skills (after all it IS only week 4 of the competition). Why oh why can they not just stick to the skating instead of all the props/gimmicks/twists?? Strictly is getting the same and it spoils the dancing for me!! It also annoys me that they keep singling out Jorgie and Matt, are they trying to suggest that all the other celebs are useless?? They are all working hard and doing the best they can so I really do wish they wouldn't constantly single those two out!!

Tha seems a good calculation - if it happens the twist is pointless. if it doesn't the twist will help someone good go home by halving the number of the weaker people available to come bottom two. as MrHappyFeet says whats the point of changing the format - if it achieves nothing or changing things for the worst?

It might be working for us fans on here, but it's stumbling in the ratings - it recorded the lowest ever Sunday figure last week so maybe that's why they're introducing twists?
