Hi everyone - I have just been on Facebook and found all these disturbing pictures a circus has put up, as they have acquired five new elephants. It breaks my heart to see them perform in front of people and watch them walked through the streets when they should be out in the wild, or at least properly cared for in a zoo. I have found an early day motion, which your MP can sign, proposing against the use of wild animals in circuses. You can find the link here http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/2563 if you feel as strongly as I do - to see if your MP has signed and if they haven't, drop them an email to support the petition.

I simply can't believe that circuses are still exploiting animals in this day and age.

I hate seeing animals like elephants trapped in circus's, i won't ever go see any circus which has animals in it because i don't agree with it. I really wish they would outlaw them.

agreed no animal should be locked up in a cage and forced to do party tricks that are totally alien to them just so people can be entertained. If it was up to me animals in circus's would be banned and the animals given over to places like Longleat Safari park where they can live out there days in nice wide open spaces .

Thanks so much for posting this pugamo, I have an animal welfare blog and have posted numerous times about the use of wild animals in circuses. I have e-mailed my MP as well but a reminder wouldn't hurt.

Can you tell me which Circus it is please? I will add an update to my blog about it.

Many thanks.

How awful, however if it's an Irish one is there anything our mps can do? Unless they wish to tour here?

They tour the whole of Ireland, as I live in Northern Ireland I have emailed my local MP who will be able to vote on the bill. It would mean that they can't take their animals to Northern Ireland anyway if the bill were passed. It wouldn't affect that circus if you asked your MP to sign the petition; however the petition relates to all circuses touring in the UK - there are others in England and so on that have wild animals on display.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't objecting, just asking what I could do from here, about that specific circus.mwhen all the Anne stuff blew up I did get involved as a rep from my uni, the latest news is that there is new performing animal legislation in the pipeline.
