Why would it be "uber expensive"?

The iPad 2 stuck to roughly the same price points as the iPad 1... in fact it was slightly cheaper. I think it would be rather stupid of Apple to ramp up the price with the iPad 3.

I might be wrong but I don't remember ipad2 being more expensive than ipad1 on launch. That's not to say number 3 will be, but Apple seem quite keen to keep the prices 'manageable'. Although there have been rumours that they might do the same as the iPhone 3GS/4 situation and keep v2 as a cheaper low end model and v3 as a higher spec/price one but that remains to be seen.

iPad 2 took over the pricing of the iPad 1 and the iPad 1 models were sold off cheaper.

Was just browsing around & saw this.

The likelihood is that the new iPad will be out by the end of March, and will be better specced than the current model. If you don't care for Apple kit then that doesn't matter to you. For anyone pondering buying an iPad tho, the next few weeks is probably the worst time to buy one if Apple's previous is any guide. The likeliest scenario is that the new one will be announced at or about the same price as the current version, and at the same time the retail price of the current drops a fair bit to clear the stock. For the sake of a few weeks (6, 7?) you can either save a decent amount by sitting tight or for the same money you can get the higher specced version when it's out. Obviously if you can't wait or cost isn't a factor then buying now is a reasonable decision.

I've been holding off getting one since last year. I decided I finally want one, but now I'm waiting for the 'Retina' display resolution bump. Hopefully it'll appear soon.
