Katrina apologises to Chemmy
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...an-remark.html
Jason got into the same situation when he called Sharon 'large' - meaning tall/athletic/statuesque - sometimes judges have to pick their words carefully

Yes but you could tell from Katarina's tone that she didn't mean it in a nasty way - she was actually criticising the choreography (Chemmy doesn't need to hide her lack of skating ability by being lifted like most of the other female celebs do as she CAN actually skate very well!) - not Chemmy personally. Don't forget that she isn't a native English speaker, and some of the nuances and idioms of the the English language may not be that familiar to her.
Jason on the other hand...... was just plain nasty and rude - and DID mean to insult Sharron! |

Katrina was right to say what she did. What other words could she use to express that Chemmy is too big to be put into the more spectacular lifts.

They are really fishing now, aren't they
I think it was quite obvious what she meant, and yes, newsflash, a foreigner got a word wrong (she is tall and large, there is no doubt about that). She is quite powerful. Non news IMO. |

I must confess I took an inward breath when Katarina made the 'big woman' comment - but I quickly realised that her 'faux pas' was down to a difficulty in translation; and ..... she has apologised at the first opportunity unlike Jason who took a great deal of satisfaction from insulting and upsetting those contestants he disliked.

I don't see why she should apologise. I would guess that Chemmy's measurements are 34-30-44. Her thighs are bigger than most peoples waists.

I didn't get from anything Chemmy said or did that that it was Katerina who had upset her...I just thought it was to do with executing the routine badly and getting such low marks as a result. Chemmy comes across as far too tough a cookie to be remotely upset by something so ambiguous - and, as others have pointed out, hardly used in an offensive context.

I thought Katarina's comments were perfectly justified. Most skiers need to be quite sturdily built to do what they do. Chemmy shouldn't take offence, Katarina was only trying to offer advice

I didn't hear her say that but everyone knows what she meant, she wouldn't have meant she was fat but Chemmy has an athletic figure so is 'larger' than all the girls but not in a bad way

Chemmy's a downhill skier and they tend to be broad with powerful thighs. Chemmy's actually not that tall at 5ft 7in (Sharron was 5ft 11in). Jennifer's around the same height as Chemmy but she's 30lbs lighter and she doesn't have any trouble with her lifts (just too many IMO). |

Katarina was saying that Chemmy would have problems with lifts because she would be heavier than the average female, but this does not mean she is fat, merely muscular.

English is Katarina's second language. In German, her mother tongue, the word gross means both big and tall. She justprobably just misspoke, which is understandable.
Besides, Katarina didn't mean that Chemmy was fat, I'm sure, because she isn't. But she's a professional sportswoman and she's muscular - like Katarina herself. I highly doubt Katarina meant any offence and the fact that she had to apologise is ridiculous. |

By "big" I thought it was obvious that she meant tall and well built and not fat. She was right, and I think that Chemmy and her partner are totally mismatched anyway, she's too tall for him. He also looks like he could be her dad.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would realise Katarina wasn't calling her fat or trying to insult her in any way. The things people get forced to apologise for are so ridiculous sometimes.

No one has suggested that she had to apologise. She chose to do so, probably thinking that she might have offended Chemmy thus displaying a sensitivity for the celebs feelings.

I agree with what most have said, I don't see why chemmy should take offense at all, it was clear what katarina meant and the fact she is not overweight in the slightest has made me question chemmy's reaction. On twitter she has said that she's proud of her body almost reacting as if it was a criticism by katarina. I think the whole thing is stupid and for chemmy to have said what she's said she is continuing to make something of NOTHING😏😏

I thought also although she did not say so, that Katarina was also thinking of Chemmy's recovery from injury. Being the build that she is makes it even more important for her to contribute to being lifted than lighter competitors I would think, and she cannot do that effectively whilst carrying an injury,

I think Katarina apologising for any possible upset shows how nice she is - she didn't have to do it but I think it was nice that she did. I understood her comments but it doesn't take much to wind some people up!

I agree with people who believe Katarina did not mean any offence. That was so obvious. Plus I love how Katarina is giving great constructive criticism. I hope this 'outcry' doesn't make her turn into the generic token female on the panel with pointless and safe feedback.
