Extremely poor for EE for an episode in January! Corrie over 1m ahead and Emmerdale only 500k behind!

Yep, EastEnders is low. I can't remember a January non-soap clash episode of EastEnders ever rating as low as that before. Hollyoaks is even worse though, a massive -28% down from the equivalent episode last year!

I don't usually comment on this thread, but last night's ratings were interesting! I expected Corrie to rate higher after such bumper ratings on Monday. Very poor for EE - that figure is unacceptable for a non-clash, cold January evening. And as for Hollyoaks - an absolute disaster! From what I've seen of it, it's not surprising - the show is heading in the complete wrong direction at the moment, with all its storylines focusing on the sixth formers (bizaarely).

Well done to Emmerdale though - it's been the most consistently good soap in terms of ratings for a fair while now!

It's a awful rating for January. Those are the sort of ratings you see in the Summer.

Dramatic much? Corrie didnt hold on to thosr Extra viewers yet EastEnderd did for about 3weeks and no doubt most of the younger viewers watched the LIVE football on sky last night. Back to normal monday

It was tweeted by @Mike_Large, who is ITV's Director of Communications on Twitter. I guess he was referring to included +1 figures.

EE couldnt even manage 11.5m for Pats exit like Corrie did for Becky - I think its clear EE is in danger.

I think EE had a comparatively good January, if you look at tv ratings as a whole. I think the one 'dodgy' rating is what some people have been waiting for so they can pounce on it. With soaps though, you can't just look for the ratings for one day. You have to look at them month to month or sometimes even longer periods to see any changes.

Now, don't you stick that crap on me. Take a look through part 5 and you'll see how unhappy I've been with these ratings. I suggest you do your research. No one's jumping on EastEnders. If anything, the ones who are more concerned about the ratings are the ones who want the very, very, very best for the show. I apologise about my tone, but I think that was a very silly comment.

How would you explain that January 2012 has rated less than January 2011, January 2010, etc? Even in January 2009 (which saw the ratings on heavy decline before sorting out itself in April), the ratings were never this low. How would you explain that Emmerdale's ratings? They're doing fine, aren't they?

I never stuck crap on you. I don't do that. I never mentioned you. I look at things from all sides, always state that things are just my opinion, hence me using the words "I think" twice in the post you quoted.

I wasn't discussing soap ratings year on year, I was talking about January 2012 and the coming months. If you want to have a chat/discussion/debate about soap ratings or television ratings as a whole that's fine, but please don't try and belittle my intelligence or try and take a belligerent tone. I enjoy debating points with people who have differing opinions, but not differing attitudes. I always post with a friendly, polite tone and never personally attack someone for anything they've posted. I expect the same response in return and do not care to respond with posters if that is not the case.

All you needed to say was, 'Actually I've noticed EE ratings not being good for sometime. The ratings for month x were such and such and if you look year on year the ratings were clearly down. I've noticed Emmerdale's ratings are good at the moment so in my opinion all soaps are not following the same reduction in ratings. What do you think about this?'

Le sigh. I'm going to go eat a Creme Egg.

OK, OK. I apologise about that, but I think you should've been clearer because I thought you were referring to me...

Simple question; If one looks back to 2011, 2010, 2009, and 2008, won't the ratings for this year be down for all soaps, and not just EE?
