On the plus side its fantastic to see Emmerdale so close to EastEnders. Thats fantastic for them and it wasn't even a clash episode. Makes me wonder how well Emmerdale would actually perform against EastEnders right now if its own quality was matching that of its 2004 to 2007 era. Because at present Emmerdale, like EastEnders, could also do with some better storylines. ITV should now try to make the most of EastEnders obviously falling ratings and push Emmerdale to the limit. Its 40th is coming up so its the perfect time. They very nearly got there in 2005/2006 but EastEnders is in a worser position at the moment so its all for Emmerdale & ITV to play for.

Disgraceful for EE.

Whilst EE is not performing well, there's so little love for the show at the moment on boards like this that you can't help but feel it could be a lot worse.

Awful rating for EastEnders, I thought Tuesday was meant to be it's strongest night?

Good audience share for ED.
EE very low for a tuesday.

Not a great overnight for EE, although I'm sure the final rating won't be quite as bad.

Its worth noting a though these have been a lot of "8 mill" ratings for EE of late which when the actual's are released sail through he 9 mill mark...

Its not always the best of indications. But to be fair not much is happening at the moment and the other shows have a lot more hype around them.

Do agree it is time for action though... People have very short memories and they forget the good stuff very quickly!

Interesting post in the TV ratings thread showing some of the EE final ratings - people keep mentioning that EE ratings are down on last year but the finals suggest otherwise.

And what's all this about Tuesday being EE's strongest night? The Monday episodes tend to be the strongest rating episodes of the week I find.

Should/could they be ranked from top to bottom? For example...

Emmerdale - 7.53m (35.2%)
Doctors - 1.84m (22.8%)
Neighbours - 733k (9.0%) & 1.12 (6.67%)
Hollyoaks - 1.03m (5.0%)
Home & Away - 922k (4.7%)
EastEnder's rating isn't much different to Tuesday's, so I don't think 'the football denting it' (as DS has reported it) excuse washes really.

There was Football Tuesday too. It was Chelsea so a big London Team. Thing is EastEnders has a younger demo (more so than the other soaps) so if Football or a big event (BGT/Wimbledon ect) chances are some of the younger lot will catch up later.
I also think the weather effected things for the soaps last night. Doctors - 1.36m (20.1%) for example is a summer rating and on radio1 last night people were saying they were sitting in the garden as it felt more like a spring evening. Anyway. Should all be back to normal tonight

BBC3 EastEnders at 888k is up on Tuesday and slightly higher than what it can normaly rate too.
I think it would be good to see the Omnibus & I player figures at times like this. Note-Last night's EastEnders is most watched on I player over the past 24 hours

How can the weather effect the soaps in winter though? I can understand why Doctors was lower as it's a daytime soap but I don't understand why the others would be effected. Even though it was warm yesterday it still got dark early. Are people really likely to be sitting in their gardens at night in winter?

I don't know but it was a warm evening so maybe people were making the most of it. I know a few people text in to radio1
and said they had a BBQ in the evening and the chap said 1 day of sun and the BBQ's are out

That could be a reason i don't know/ It seems the Football was the main problem though with Emmerdale's 8:00pm ep under 7 million

I'm not being funny but I do find all these excuses for a lower EastEnders rating than normal rather daft. BBQs? in February!!!! its dark at 5.30pm..

Maybe, just maybe, the Great British public aren't finding the soaps that entertaining at present.. that is a far more reasonable, not to mention believable, excuse to run with.

Call The Midwife was getting 10 million each week, and with decent competition, so its not like those figures can't be reached.

I agree. It would also suggest to me that, given a credible alternative to the soaps in the evening, the GBP will vote with their feet.

Omg I have never heard anything quite so pathetic before. Who in the hell was having a BBQ in the dark on the first warmish day of the year? It's just a new reason every day for the poor EE ratings where the real reason is its cack.
