I'm 17 and although I still watch EastEnders, a lot of my friends have given up on it and I can't say I blame them. Hollyoaks is still pretty popular with people I know and Corrie to a lesser extent. On my facebook for example, EastEnders used to be talked about all the time whereas now it's only really mentioned if it's a big episode.

Thats because EastEnders BBC3 repeat pulls in 800,00 on a standard episode most of the time which is why DS also mention it in their report
The BBC omnibus pulls in over a million most weeks which is more than any of the other soap omnibuses so all in all EastEnders gets more reach than anyother tv soap which is also what the BBC have stated anumber of times

EastEnders rates more on their BBC3 repeat and sunday omnibus than any of the other soaps and quite often you see the BBC3 repeat as the most watched multi channel of the day....worth noting which programe still holds the most watched Digital TV screening ever!



Cough*Downton Abbey*Cough EastEnders was able to pull in 9.9million against DA and beating it in the over night figures

When soap clashes with soap then the viewers are split and of course the soap starting HALF HOUR later is going to be dented much more.

1.EastEnders has a big Hour-Long Episode
2.EastEnders gets 30mins head start over Emmerdale
which is what happend when Emmerdale had the hour-long last week.

Last time EastEnders had the head-start over Emmerdale it was reduced to 4 million whille EastEnders had over 9 and that was late 2011

Over nights are NOT the real figures they are just the over nights and it's the Officials that matter really
that 5.5m will turn into 7 million (or there abouts) once recordings are taken into account.

When you hear things like 'X factor was the number 1 show of 2011' thats based on the official rating and not over nights

The overnights are just figures with Half the info

as it along with most of the BBC1 programes will be moved to BBC2 and like last time EastEnders will get around 5.3m

The Olympics this year will be MASSIVE because simply they are in the UK and of course with the Euro & Wimbledon all the soaps will be down

Chances are all of the Big 3 soaps will have bigger storylines before and after the sporting events and have more filler storylines for the summer

You will see that EastEnders is mostly watched by the 18-30 age range.

Why would it get in the top 30 for C5 when C5 doesn't air the episode first? It's a repeat...That's like saying BBC3 EastEnders should rate higher than the BBC1 episode.

Hollyoaks is in the same position as Home and Away...it airs its premier episode on E4 and C4 episodes rarely make it in to the top 30.

Chances are if E4/5* stopped the first look showings
the actual main Ch4/Five figures would be higher. I've no idea why they even bother with 'First Looks' actually

you do know that 200,000 rating for 5* is the OFFICIAL and not the over night rating don't you?

Dramas:

Soaps come under Drama and are still among the most watched programes on TV
ONLY Call the midwife & Downton Are able to rate higher

Scripted Reality shows:

Liked TOWIE? which doesn't even rate over 2 million viewers

Five, Four, ITV and the BBC are going to use their more popular programming to try to attract viewers to their 'minority' channels aren't they. All want their monies worth don't they.

That official figure of DA wasn't that far ahead of EastEnders either

EDIT-Downton was most watched over all but EastEnders was most watched on the day
9:00pm on xmas day more people were watching EastEnders but then i and others stated this Because not only is watching Enders on xmas day tradition for many but to record DA and fast forward the adverts were what many people decided todo

EDIT-When EastEnders & Downton went head to head EastEnders come out on top it was only when Recordings were taken into account DA was 300,000 viewers ahead

In my opinion and the opinion of others it seems, you appear to use any excuse going to explain/justify/brush off a 'poor' Eastenders performance. Could it just be that people are switching off because it is no longer the quality show it was back in the day? If Eastenders was top quality all the time, people would watch it regardless, in my view.

Fact is EastEnders is doing very well and as you will see if you look at the OFFICIAL ratings (like the 2011 ones you posted) you will see since January most Eastenders figures are over 9million with some over 10million

Seeing as EastEnders takes 4 of the top 5 most watched BBC programes of the week and is pretty much on par with Corrie in officials and is UP in 2009 show's there's not problem with the shows ratings.

I can't believe the spin I am reading. It doesn't matter when people watch/how they watch. It is 2012. In my opinion, you totally talk as it fits...so long as, somehow or other, Eastenders can come out on top.

Viewers viewing habits are changing, as are their tastes in telly shows. My opinion is supported by the ratings figures. Reality tv/tv talent shows and dramas are now more popular than the soaps. It doesn't matter to me. Does it really matter to you?

^Thanks for those, Looks like Emmerdale and Eastenders are closest in Ratings rather than Eastenders and Corrie being close like it used to be. Close to 10 million in the second episode there for Corrie.

I don't know if thats good for Emmerdale or just very bad for EastEnders though.

The share for EastEnders however *is* shocking.

Again quite poor for EE and not a very good share. But there is nothing exciting happening in the show at the moment. Hopefully with Heather's murder coming up the ratings will improve.
