I think that to have a soap with high ratings, the storylines should be good and the characters should be liked by the viewers.
I really think that what is pulling down EE is Derek being there. So many viewers do not like him. Also Phil is missing. Once he is "out of prison", maybe things will start to look up

I quite like Derek, he is one of those panto villains that comes along every couple of years in EE. I'm looking forward to Phil coming out of prison so that we can at least move things on a bit. Perhaps this whole system of allowing actors from the show to do other things whilst in contract should be stopped, especially when the results are what we have now.
Whilst everyone is looking forward to the return of Sharon, I'm dreading the return. The current team will probably have her return with an ex boyfriend hunting her down - moving in to the Vic, sleeping with Jack (because there are no other men in London) and discovering that she is pregnant by one of the two guys.
Anyways, Derek needs to be a little less Panto now, and a lot darker - building up to
Spoiler
his Christmas murder by one of the many people who want him out of the way
EastEnders ran from 7:27 to 7:56 tonight so that will show up in the overnights but should time shift well in the officials.
I don't know why the BBC do this all the time and starting EastEnders before it's 7:30pm isn't a good move when people might be recording the ep or watching Emmerdale on the otherside

has it?
Last Thursday it was below 8million (along with EastEnders) and there's been others so far this year im sure.
I think Corrie will come out top (just) because of the early start/early finish for EastEnders tonight but that should be ironed out in the officials
So, pretty certain they are the tapechecked ratings above, as DS usually reports them.
I must say I expected the Corrie/EE gap to be closer considering it was a Thursday.
Both EE and ED were dire last night though, so Corrie deserves to be on top. Corrie should top 10m on Monday, probably close to 11m.
I think EE's big test will be when its big murder episodes air towards the end of the month-if ratings don't increase then I would say it's back to the drawing board, because every single episode since the middle of Jan has felt like filler with no big stories whatsoever.

Well I just don't understand it - EE should be much higher than this. We had 6ft of snow in our street between 7:30pm and 8pm and then, all of a sudden, it was bright skies and the sun was cracking the flags at 8:30pm when Corrie was on

sorry I worded that badly, I meant that they were all up on their average for the whole of 2011, your comparison is better, I should of compared them to the equivalent months last year
