If EastEnders isn't doing 'top quality' all year round, why not? What needs to be done to make sure that licence fee payers are getting 'top quality' from EastEnders all year round?”

Are ALL the other soaps "Top quality" all year round then? or doesn't it matter, only when it's EE.

What the commercial broadcasters do is up to them. Unlike the BBC, they aren't funded directly by the public are they.

The BBC are always going to be under the microscope due to the way they are funded and rightly so in my view.

I speak as a firm BBC supporter.

Any predictions for tonight? Will EastEnders creep back up and be the most watched soap of the day or will Corrie continue winning the ratings battle?

I think corrie will easily dominate tonight with the aftermath of Frank's murder, perhaps a peak of 9million.

I think so too. A peak of 9m for a Thursday episode would be brilliant.

I expect Corrie to come out on top tonight but nowhere near Monday's figures. EE will come out better % wise

What is interesting is the audience share for Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale. For audience share, they would be ranked as follows...

Coronation Street 1 - 38.9%
Coronation Street 2 - 36.9%
Emmerdale - 34.1%
EastEnders - 33.8%
I hadn't realised that it had fallen so low, just a few years ago it was over 6m combined. Sadly I can't see it lasting another 5 years R.I.P

I will ignore this attempt at baiting...!

In 2008, Neighbours was getting 5 million daily on BBC1. It hasn't had 5 million since it's last day on BBC1, yet it is essentially still the same show...better in my view, than it was in 2008 on BBC1.

Why, in your opinion, won't it be around in 5 years time? It is, after-all, the fourth most viewed soap in the UK.

Monday 12th March

EE 8.1m
Corrie 9.9 + 9.5m
Emm 7.49m

Bad night again for EE 1.8m behind Corrie and 32% share

Monday 12th March

Corrie 7.30: 9.88m (41.8%)
Corrie 8.30 9.52m (38.1%)
EE 8.00 8.11m (32.6%)
Emmerdale 7.00 7.49m (34.5%)

According to Mike Large, Corrie peaked at 10.7m last night. Also interesting to see the 7.30 episode rate higher than the 8.30, not sure how often that happens. Must be down to the big friday cliffhanger of arresting Carla.

I honestly dont see EE getting over 9m for next weeks episodes. Even though it is being advertised i'd be very surprised now.

Could it be because we all know what is going to happen?

Same here. I think the build up to Heather's death has been terrible.
As the ratings reflect, people have been gripped on the Frank Foster/Carla Connor storyline, pretty much since Frank was found not guilty at the trial, early in February. Over a month later, he's dead and Corrie's ratings are still soaring.

I would suggest that during the last few years, EastEnders' viewers have been disappointed because expectation and hype has not matched 'reality'. We also know that EastEnders doesn't do 'aftermath' / 'follow-up'. Will Hev's murder buck the trend? I doubt it. She will be forgotten by all the week after next.

EastEnders needs to concentrate on putting out quality, week in, week out, not just two or three times a year...because at the moment, the masses have lost interest because the 'day to day' isn't good enough. Why are people going to bother to tune in just for two or three episodes?

All the above, strictly my opinion of course.

We usually do though and that's why soaps get more viewers when there's big storyline. I haven't watched EE regulary since summer 2010 but this is storyline that I want to tune in for. I would've thought more people would tune in for the build up of it tbh

I haven't seen last night's episode just yet

I may have watched had I not known what was going to happen and who was responsible...but we all know. What is the point? Leaks and spoilers have spoilt the whole 'plot'...in my opinion.

Next week may spark a brief bit of interest, but that will be it...in my view.

I can't quite believe though that Coronation Street is between 6% and 10% higher than EastEnders, regarding audience share. Emmerdale is higher than EastEnders to. Me thinks EastEnders needs a major revamp.

EastEnders' ratings will improve when storylines improve. Getting 8million in march is quite bad.
