Where did Lorraine get the 12m viewers from?
Maybe it peaked at that?
Either that or ITV told her to say that

EastEnders will get higher ratings tonight or thursday as aftermaths always do better ratings wise on EastEnders. Look at the aftermath of the Boxing Day Fire making 10.6million while the actual fire made 9.9million.

Well-deserved all round I think, Corrie is really riding high so far in 2012. I hope the fact that EE barely made it past 9 million for a well-advertised, big episode will highlight to the succeeding EP that there is serious work to be done. The ratings for the 'big two' at the moment are definitely a reflection of quality in my eyes.

Re: the "big two"...they are just soaps like the other soaps. Is there a need to put them on a pedestal? If they were 'good' all year round, then maybe...but are they, that is the question?

It's not something I tend to call them, I just know that others do and I wanted a quick way to refer to Corrie and EE again.

To answer your final question, EE is most definitely not, whereas Corrie I believe has at least been consistently good in 2012 so far.

Certainly the impression I get is that Corrie has been consistently good for the last year and a half...which is good I guess...and as it should be really.

Re: EE...I did see Ricky's and Pat's exit and was hugely disappointed by both.

I will look in on EE when the permanent EP has had time to bed in. Prior to the permanent EP bedding in, I hope to hear of lots of positive changes to the show, both in front and behind the scenes.

What will be very interesting to see is what EastEnders ratings will be during the summer given a poor performance during this winter/spring.

Eastenders along with all the other soaps will most likely be down because of Euro 2012 and the Olympics. What will be interesting is how they will do in the Autumn after all the sport

I wouldn't say the OH DEAR! is neccecary. Was anybody seriously expecting an 11m rating!? I think to hold near to the 9m mark is fine in comparrison to recent ratings.

The episode was amazing, but nobody would know in advance how good it would be! I'd imagine it would be thursday that will benefit the most following word of mouth discussion about last night. But it will not make ratings suddenly surge.

EastEnders needs a good week this week, a good week the week after and so on until a seed is planted. Archies murder did not rate high but the culmination and aftermath of the reveal did very well. Phil Mitchells shooting wasn't that high, but the reveal was. EastEnders needs a longrunning storyline that is gripping etc. I imagine Shirley discovering the truth will make good drama and that may not be for a while. Who would have known that Lauren videoing the Stacey/Bradders wedding would have led to a surprise 14m rating episode!!

Tonight? Half of the Enders fans in the episode thread didnt even know EastEnders was on tonight so
I fully expect below 8million figure. The BBC seemed to stoo trailing the storyline monday afternoon when really they should keep building the hype through the week. Sligtly down on monday but up in Share and i noticed the BBC3 repeat is up. fully expect Thursdays ep to be the highest of the week

You cant go by tonights ratings cos alot of people will probably forget EE is out of its normal slot tonight.

8.9 and a 39% share is good. Im sure in the official ratings it will be well over 9m.

yes but concidering there big storeys used to get a lot higher it is worrying!...i know theyve been getting 8-9million past few weeks so maybe the ratings this week may proove that there needs to be a big change, who knows what the new producer will do!

True. EE appears to have lost over 1 million viewers so I'm not surprised that the ratings have been somewhat dull, so far this week. Hev's murder is supposed to be the first big storyline of the year for EE and yet 9.1m and 8.9m are certainly nothing special. The show is clearly not in a good place. Whatever changes they're making, they need to get on with it!

Wasn't Pat's death (which I was hugely disappointed with) supposed to be the first big story of 2012? Not sure mind.

Yes and it saw episodes peaking at over 11 million (10m+ on Average)
It also Helped EastEnders win EVERY NIGHT of January for at least the first 2 weeks so your statement about a bad winter has been wrong.

9.1million and 8.9million is still very good.

Coronation Street is the only other show beating it and that has had many big story lines recently.

I think this storyline will get people watching again and hopefully stay watching.

The episode will timeshift to 10million easily.

As a non-EE fan, I must say that it has still retained its audience and fans! I see it as a miserable, sadistic soap myself (but that's my opinion). It's not doing bad at all in the ratings - but it's still lagging behind the Top Soap isn't it?
They MUST try harder!!
I've watched EastEnders since its beginning in 1985 - but switched off in early 2004, too depressing. I still watch it now and then - when there's nothing else on. So if there are more people like me - what do ratings mean anyway???
