Let's be honest, none of the soaps are setting the world alight ratings wise at the moment are they?

In comparison, it will be very interesting to see how The Voice does tomorrow. Can't wait...!

ALL of tv was down last night and not just the soaps. It's Easter time so people are going away (Abroad mostly) usually soaps rate quite poorly at Easter Unless it's a huge storyline (Max getting Buried alive pulled in 11million)
I expect that these will be the sort of ratings we will see untill about September now

Thats exactly what I came here to post after I saw the ratings on the main soap page, just now.
That is pretty awful ratings for a big exit, Probably because the lead up to his exit was pretty awful too, I was not a fan of the whole Aaron taking the blame for Adam, story..
Corrie narrowly Beat Eastenders too..

Poor rating for EastEnders yesterday. I expected it to be lower than usual but not below 7m!

Well, it is dreadful at the moment.

Appalling figures both share and audience figures, under 7m is not a good sign, especially given we are only in the middle of spring. God knows what the figures will be during the summer, possibly below 4m.

Last year on good Friday ee got 7.6 mill so it's hardly a massive difference.

And last year corrie only got 6.99 for one of its episodes but no one was crying disaster.... And look at it now...

I wouldn't mind betting that the ratings for EastEnders during the Summer and beyond will be less than six million. People are clearly switching off because it has lost the appeal it once had, in my view. The new producer (when he or she comes in) has got a mountain to climb.

As I have said on here before, I think the soaps are a dying breed. It is all about dramas and reality formats now, in my view. Just look across to America to see the trends.

That is an abysmal rating for Eastenders, I wouldn't say Emmerdale is bad, Its been stuck in the 6/7 million range for ages now, Corrie seems to be the only one whos keeping above board at the moment.
Its not like the weathers been amazing the past week either, and I doubt that many people have gone abroad, more likely to in the summer but thats my opinion..
I wonder how low Eastenders will go now, especially in the Summer if things don't pick up..

ALL soaps will be affected this summer. Euros 2012 & Olympics are on.

Come on...no excuses allowed! If the soaps are consistently good, people will tune in...regardless. If they aren't, people will find something else to do.

What will be interesting is how The Voice rates tonight. Much higher than soaps?

Personally, just a hunch, but I expect it will get it's lowest ratings ever. Remember, it went as low as 5.5million during the winter.

I won't tune back into it until I hear that all 'my issues' with it have been resolved. Until then, I will keep up with it via the media.

That is a good point yes, but like Miles has explained, if a show is excellent and has storylines in, which intrest someone, they'll make sure they watch.

I'm not too enthalled by Eastenders either, theres a few things that bug me about it at the moment, It feels like Corrie is always beating Enders at the ratings lately, Even episodes focused with silly Dev in the forefront have beat Enders.
I really wouldn't want to be the new EP coming into Enders, they have a mountin to climb imo.

I would add, because Corrie and EastEnders don't have any credible competition when both go out, they don't really need to try do they. Quality would go up if both faced stiff competition...and that's, in my opinion, what needs to happen to drive up standards. Look at The Voice vs BGT. A perfect example. Both networks will try to make the best shows they can...and the winner is...the viewer.

Fully agree, but it's never going to happen.

Goodness me, EastEnders' figures are ABSOLUTELY abysmal. No excuses allowed whatsoever. Absolutely appallig. It just can't be justified. Astounding.

Actually, EastEnders had 7.7m this time last year, and that was bang in the hottest April on record. It's actually snowed this year, extremely cold, so what does that tell you? 6.9m in April simply can't be justified, when it hardly ever goes this low in the Summer. And why even bring Corrie into this?

Neighbours, EE and Home and Away are all rating horribly...

Neighbours should be rating higher because it is a well written show which also features likeable characters (bar Kate and Sophie). Being on Channel 5 (a minority channel) isn't helping. If it was still on BBC1, it would be getting 5 million a day again, because essentially, it is still the same show.

Sophie is likeable in my opinion, but her kicking off at Kate/teenage meltdown plot was ill-conceived, that's all.

Maybe weather has nothing to do with it and its a case of its a bank holiday and people go out go on holiday and see family...
And bringing Corrie in is to make point about how a show can turn around bad fortune, for all those who a decrying the end if ee!!

An interesting footnote, The Voice got between 9.54m and 10.55m while BGT got between 9.43m and 10.26m last night, according to DS...both going out during the 'soap slots'.

It would suggest to me that the viewers are out there and there for the taking...so rather than trying to blame the weather or whatever, could it just be that viewers are switching the soaps off because the quality of them is no longer consistently there. If indeed this is the case, what can be done, if anything, to reverse this?
