Welcome to the soaps ratings thread
Tell me about it!

I'm just saying if you have a point articulate it. You're point is that 'EE needs to up it's game due to the ratings'. Surely then you can't be suprised that someone is asking you what ratings are evidential of this? That's what a discussion is. It's not about trying to brainwash people or change their minds, it's about differing opinions. Within the ratings thread, obviously we're going to provide ratings to support those arguements.

You actually brought Corrie into your arguement. My point was that the decrease in ratings has affected both soaps and I asked you why you thought this was.

If you don't want to debate the ratings then don't answer the posts. Not everyone is going to agree with you and not everyone is going to agree with me. I actually thought you were providing an interesting discussion. Just because we don't agree it doesn't mean there is not point in discussing things.
I didn't bring Corrie into it at all. Another user started to slag off Emmerdale when responding to MY post which didn't mention any of the other soaps.

I think I have covered in several posts now why I think EE needs to up its game, the storylines aren't grabbing people, and I don't need to keep repeating this just because you are unable to see past me not comparing EE to Corrie in the year on declines.

Corrie has got great overnight ratings for their two big stories, this week and last. They've done really well. I was talking about the whole of January ratings we have so far. I think both soaps (and ED) have had a good January.

I only defend EE, when someone says something that I disagree with. I don't know if these people are EE fans, Corrie fans or just some randomer who staggered into the wrong forum. If I disagree with an opinion, then I give my opinion.

Figures from BARB for final ratings for Jan so far:

EE - w/e 8 Jan
10.98m (Mon)
10.21m (Tue)
10. 20m (Thu)
9.84m (Fri)

Corrie- w/e 8 Jan
9.24m (Mon)
9.16m (Thu)
9.02m (Fri)
8.96m (Fri)
8.32m (Mon)

EE - w/e 15th Jan
9.99m (Fri)
9.77m (Mon)
9.55m (Thu)
9.45m (Tue)

Corrie - w/e 15th Jan
9.31m (Mon)
9.20m (Mon)
9.00m (Fri)
8.41m (Thu)
6.72m (Fri)

EE - w/e 22 Jan
9.96m (Mon)
9.56m (Tue)
9.55m (Fri)
9.53m (Thu)

Corrie - w/e 22 Jan
9.63m (Mon)
9.47m (Mon)
9.31m (Fri)
8.94m (Fri)
8.89m (Thu)

Corrie have obviously got that extra rating every week due to having one more episode than EE. Like I said, to me the ratings for Jan have appeared pretty close for both EE and Corrie. I'm sure Corrie will get good ratings for their big storylines over the past week. I'm glad. I think soap producers have one of the hardest jobs in television and even if I'm not a huge fan of all the soaps, I like it when they all do well and all push each other to do better.
Including HD, Corrie is doing better than these figures previously posted -

EE - w/e 8 Jan
10.98m (Mon)
10.21m (Tue)
10. 20m (Thu)
9.84m (Fri)

Corrie- w/e 8 Jan
9.92m (Mon 7.30)
9.74m (Thu)
9.64m (Fri 7.30)
9.58m (Fri)
8.99m (Mon 8.30)

EE - w/e 15th Jan
9.99m (Fri)
9.77m (Mon)
9.55m (Thu)
9.45m (Tue)

Corrie - w/e 15th Jan
9.92m (Mon 7.30)
9.79m (Mon 8.30)
9.53m (Fri 7.30)
9.08m (Thu)
7.28m (Fri 8.30)

EE - w/e 22 Jan
9.96m (Mon)
9.56m (Tue)
9.55m (Fri)
9.53m (Thu)

Corrie - w/e 22 Jan
10.23m (Mon 8.30)
10.11m (Mon 7.30)
10.02 m (Fri 8.30)
9.97m (Fri 7.30)
9.49m (Thu)

These are before all the ITV +1, ITV2, BBC3, I Player, ITV players viewings, so goodness knows how many more people watch them! They're both holding up really well I think. When you see some of the primetime American ratings they dont get near some of these ratings and consider the amount of people in America available to watch them

Excuses don't cut it. If its not the football or the weather its now not having adverts... its funny how its only EE effected by that isn't it. Every episode should be at a standard where it can match if not beat Corrie. The fact it is one million behind it isn't good. Perhaps Corrie being ahead is more down to the fact viewers think its more exciting at the moment? is that so hard to grasp?

Corrie looks entertaining therefore is getting better ratings as people want to watch it. You can't keep saying EE needs constant adverts to pull in the viewers. That's saying the show can't cut it on its own name and reputation alone.

For example if EE gets a better rating for tonights episode than it did yesterday's then we can turn around and say viewers must be liking the Moon bruvs and Derek's storyline.. because that is what the ratings would indicate. If it gets lower tonight then we could say its because people are bored.. not because its hot weather.. which it isn't, or that some 3rd division football team were playing.

ED has a better share than EastEnders and is less than a million behind.. now I don't know when the last time ED got over 9 million viewers but I am guessing its been a few years so their figure is right for them. EastEnders figure isn't.

Still those in denial about the state of EE are to blame for its continued decline. Burying your head in the sand or making excuses won't hide the shows problems and there are many.
You made the comparison between EE and Corrie.

Like I said, if you think the storylines aren't good that is a valid opinion and a perfectly understandable one for thinking EE needs to up it's game.

You said that the ratings for Jan 2012 were down from Jan 2011/2010. I never disputed that fact. I just disagreed with your opinion why.

I think they are both doing great (and ED) too, Pop Princess.

I have to admit Coronation Street last was brillant but EastEnders have had far better episodes in the past. Pat's death was excellent and the Boxing Day episode was fantastic.

Great ratings for Corrie but EastEnders have great stuff coming up too. This week is just quiet for EastEnders.

Another set of fanstastic figures for Corrie! Terrible for EE, even Emmerdale beat the share!

I really want to see EE starting to hit 9 million regulary like it was in 2009/2010/2011. Not just managing to get over 8 million as it is now.

At this rate come summer EastEnders, and Corrie, might be as low as 6 million. They usually shed 2 million from May to September don't they?

If EastEnders is on BBC2 during the Olympics, it could be rating as low as 4 or 5 million.

Would they move it to BBC Two?

I actually thought EE was having a partly live episode at the end of July to kick off the BBC's coverage? I read it the other day!

It is poor. EastEnders on a Tuesday evening without fail got 40-45% share, 36% is dire and 8.3 in Jan is even worse.

Really? There's a 4% difference between good and "dire"? Get a grip.

Yes, it could be better, but it's not poor at all. Now, if it were below 7m then you might have a point.

Emmerdale's overnight's averages for Jan 2012

7.56m - 33.4%

2011
8.12m - 35.3%

2010
8.25m - 34.4%

It's down 7% from last year and 8% from the one before that.
The share down from the previous 2 years too.

Considering this is ED's 40th anniversary year it's a shame it hasn't held it's momentum from the previous 2 years.

Poor for EastEnders, should be hitting at least 9.5m, Good for Corrie (Thursday isn't a tradtional slot).

It's a decent figure for EE. The share was quite good too - nearly at the 40% mark and up on Tuesday's rating.

I don't buy all this "Thursday isn't a traditional slot for Corrie" nonsense. It's been in that slot nearly three years now so are you telling me that people out there will keep forgetting that it's moved after all that time? Rubbish. Corrie has managed to muster great figures on previous Thursday nights.

The return to the Wednesday slot will do it good though.

Well I would say after 47 years on a Wednesday, Thursday IS NOT a tradtional Coronation St slot.

Three years is enough time for people to adjust. If it were being shunted around its timeslot a la Brookie in 2003 then I might be more lenient.

My Granny is 77, and often forgets about Corrie on Thursdays, the late 8.30 slot doesnt help either.

This! ITV trailed the Thursday move like mad and they have had high ratings on the Thursday slot many times before
Hollywood is just doing what he does best.Plus ITV have trailed yhis week.EastEnders rating remains consistent

No offense, Hollywood, but you're really starting to annoy me now. How are those poor ratings for EastEnders? I'm not happy with them but they could be much worse. I'm sure the same day in 2009 had about the same figures.

People automatically think if I say EE rating poor, I hate the show, simply not true, I want it to riding high again, and I think 9.5m for this time of year is achievable, with the return of Sharon 11m+ I think is realistic.

Of course it is (13m is still achievable), but 8.8m's hardly poor, and this is coming from someone who thinks 2011-present has been unbearably bad.
