I wonder what the other 40 million-odd were doing instead?

To be fair, only 20 - 30 million watch TV on a regular basis but you do wonder what people would've otherwise been doing.

It is reasonable for its recent shares which for most if not all, were below 34%. However for all this promotional push, its still down yoy. Although it will take a while to get the viewers back up, if they do return that is.

Last Year- The Walford soap pulled in 7.18m (35.4%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Phil saved Shirley from a frightening situation with a sleazy guy. Later, BBC Three's repeat screening secured 676k (4.6%) at 10.30pm.

Except in Scotland where the kids are back at school for about half of the month and we're heading rapidly towards autumn That said, we probably don't account much for the BARB figures.

I just don't know how good an indicator BARB figures are on their own . I wish that they used a few different methods of assessing a programme's quality and popularity, not just the BARB boxes. I'd also like to know if they in any way measure online viewing? It slightly troubles me that a programme's future could rely on one method of measuring figures. I'm not saying it's a bad method, just that like any other form of market research it's open to serious questioning.

For yesterday - Corrie had 7.69 million (38.6%), up to 8.07 million (40.5%) with +1 included.

Emmerdale put in 6.36 million (35.6%), 6.67 million (36.7%) including +1.

Coronation Street's 8.1 million/41% is fairly impressive and hopefully it'll increase throughout the last quarter of the year.

Regarding the aftermath....Today is billed as the last day of summer so if EastEnders can carry on around the same ratings as Monday and Tuesday it's consistent at least. (I do think figures will be up a little though)

Tomorrow it's against a Football match on ITV but should hold up well.

I think Monday next week will be higher than it has been and Wednesday's big hour long episode will be the highest episode for a while (if advertised)

I'm not sure, I think being out of its slot will hurt it a little.

Only 5.7m/26% for EE last night but it was no doubt heavily dented by the match yesterday. I'd be interested to see how it holds up with Ronnie's return.

BBC3 repeat figure is not bad for a Friday...I think ratings will be fine next week (Minus Tuesday due to the England match once again)

Tuesdays EastEnders will deff be the lowest of the week with the England Match on ITV and No BBC One Scotland Showing until 9:30

Poor rating, but expected. Ratings will only rise once the show improves at thats a long way off yet. Even with last weeks HUGE crash, Ronnie's return and Peggy's hyped up returns it needs good writing to pull them together, otherwise its just a mess.

I think tonight will see a rise for EE hopefully up to over 7 million. But it's not going to jump a million viewers to 8 million because of ronnies return.

Corrie doing very well. Eastenders doing better but i expect ratings to rise further by next week.

Indeed those shares for Corrie and also Emmerdale are great. I expected something closer to 33% for EastEnders but at least it reached 7m finally.

True. I don't think it'll do that well tonight because of the football but hopefully by Friday, it'll improve a bit more. It just need to consistently stay above 7m mark

people on here have always said neg stuff about EE ratings over the years ive used these forums, but now I can really see what a dire situation it is in

Christmas will be interesting this year, as I think Corrie and Emmerdale will easily beat it for the first time I can remember.

So so sad for EastEnders, I really hope they can turn it around, it would be a sad day for any of the big three soaps to finish.

Wait so EE get's it's best overnight in ages, and the episode gets raves for it's quality and the show is in trouble?

Things are looking up not down.

It was never going to be an easy road to win back viewers and short sharp shocks which give a temporary boost are pointless. It needs to grow it's audience in a sustainable way as it can't have a car crash or bring back an old face every week.

Let's see how the rest of the month plays out first before calling the undertaker

EE will be down tonight unfortunately because as well as the football it's not being shown on BBC Scotland until 9:30pm.

So EastEnders this week so far:

Monday: 7.04m (31.9%), BBC3: 477k (3.5%)
Tuesday: 6.41m (29.3%), BBC3: 600k (4.2%)
Wednesday: 6.62m (29.9%), BBC3: 592k (5.1%)

Not much of a boost compared to previous weeks to be honest, the shares in particular are nothing great. It's holding steady at least, but we'll have to see how it rates tonight and tomorrow before we can reach a final conclusion.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale had extremely strong shares again last night, with 41.0% and 37.2% respectively. They're both reaching the climax of their murder storylines now so that's probably why.

Eastenders really need to look at its writers and its cast.

As other have said before, its needs to move away from the Brannings for a while. Also why they involved Phil in the car crash I will never know. It wasnt all that well done and we knew Steve McFadden wasnt leaving, so it was a bit of damp squid.
I believe they wanted to get Peggy back in and this was the only thing they could think off.

Also why must they go round and round in circles with Ian. Once again he is being threaten and they have in being weak and telling lies. To have in a relationship with Denise should have been enough, but no the writers have to show that after all Ian has been through he still havent learnt anything.

Also can they please get rid of Carl, why is everyone so scared of him. All he does is speak in growly voice

We had all that promotion for last night's hour long episode by someone who works for the BBC. Yet EE rating last night was terrible, the trailers all this week haven't worked for them. Let's see how tonight's and tomorrow's episodes do.

CS great rating as usual outstanding share too. ED to its credit doing very well at the moment.

The ITV soap gathered 7.12 million (36.9%) at 7pm as Debbie told Chas about the Dictaphone (176,000/0.8% on +1).

A second episode dipped to 6.60m (30.8%) at 8pm (336/1.5%) when the pair decided to go to the police.

On BBC One, EastEnders interested 6.66m (33.4%) at 7.30pm, as Shirley began to discover the truth about Carl. The BBC Three repeat was seen by 468k (3.4%) at 10.30pm.

Waterloo Road appealed to 2.90m (13.7%) at 8pm


This big week for EE s turning into a disappointment for the BBC, Ronnie's big return overshadowed by the previously 3rd rating soap. Waterloo Road poor again, but denting Emmerdale successfully.

EE is going the wrong way, its now down from last week as well as 1million viewers from last year.
And it looks like Monday will be the highest for the week.
