What? 2001-2002 was a Fantastic time for EE!

To be honest, I didn't actually think 2001 was that good. I won't deny it was a strong year but there was plenty of crap as well. It wasn't perfect at all. I couldn't stand Zoe/Jamie/Sonia, Martin/Asif, Nick's attack or the boring custody fight over Sonia's baby.

This said, though, I loved EastEnders as a whole in 2001, take or leave the odd dodgy storyline or month; 2002 was almost perfect (to me); I liked 2003; I enjoyed 2004 (obviously excluding all the Feraira stuff); and 2005 was very strong, too.

I meant in my post that 2011-present has been unbearably bad. It was a typo.

Oh ok, but do you think 2001 was better than 2011?

Of course it is. 2001 was a very good year for EastEnders, but I don't think it was QUITE as good as what people make out, certainy not perfect. No year ever is.

I'd place the years of the 2000s as this (best at top, worst at bottom):

2002
2001
2005
2003
2007 (taking out the first five months)
2004
2009
2006
2008
2011

Interesting, I always found 2002 a game of 2 halves, the first was great and the 2nd quite poor.

The ratings for both Corrie and EE are fine. Coronation Street screened a truly captivating 30 minutes of drama, and the fact that it perhaps did not do as well as a fairly 'big' episode would be expected/hoped to do doesn't detract from it's quality. I do not understand why people get all worked up over ratings unless it's in axe-worthy territory.

That's not poor for EE at all.

Seems like quite a good night for EE (and Corrie and ED!).

Is it me or does EE on BBC3 seem to be getting higher than average on overnight ratings this week? Not that I'm complaining, I'd just been noticing it and found it curious. I know it usually gets's between 600k-800k average-y, but it's got all over 800k this week.

I also see the Neighbours teatime showing is dropping.

Is that one of the lowest rated non bank holiday episodes of Home & Away ever?

Corrie dominated the ratings again last night with 9.6m and 9.4m for the court case climax.

Good solid ratings for Corrie, I would have liked EE to be hiting 9m.

Yep, Neighbours tea-time showing usually rates over 1m whilst Home & Away normally is under 1m. Home & Away rated particularly low on Thursday though, it was possibly its lowest ever 6pm rating!

Corresponding episode (Corrie):

2009 - 10.13m (42%) and 9.73m (39.5%)
So Corrie is down 0.55m (and down 0.3% in share) and up 0.24m (and up 0.2% in audience share) from the corresponding episode in 2009.

2008: 9.84m (46.4%) and 8.96m (38%).
So Corrie is down 0.16m (and down 4.7% in audience share) and up 1.01m (and up ~1.7% in audience share) from the corresponding day 2008.

2007: ~10.4m (~47%).
This is a tricky one because they only had one Friday episode in 2007, so I've taken the average of 9.83m (40.7%) and compared that to the corresponding Friday episode in 2007. Thefore, Coronation Street is down 0.77m (and 6.3% in audience share on the corresponding day 2007.

So Corries slightly higher than the corresonding days in 2008 and 2009 for at least one of its instalments, and hasn't faired so badly with 2007, either.

Corresponding day (EastEnders):

2009 - 9.06m (~38%).
So EastEnders is down 0.4m (and ~2;% in audience share) from the corresponding day 2009.

2008 - 8.94m (~39%).
So EastEnders is down 0.18m (and ~0.3% in audience share) from the same day 2008.

2007 - ~9.2m (~40%).
So EastEnders is down ~0.64m (~4%) from the same day 2007.

So EastEnders is pretty much even with 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Gone are the days were Neighbours could get 2.5-3m on BOTH showings

It actually had 11.43million viewers not 12.2million. It says so on BARB.

EastEnders's highest of 2012 is 10.9million which means it's only 500,000 behind Coronation Street.
