People said we would see it's worst ratings in the summer...it didn't happen.

That magic 3.9m is not going to be worsened any time soon.

5.3 million. solid considering the competition. so looks like you won't be able to open the champagne just yet

Emmerdale: 6.98m (35.9%) / 7.11m (36.6%)
EastEnders: 5.31m (22.9%), +1: 425k (2.7%)

The BBC should have moved EE half an hour earlier if they wanted it to rate better.

love the username

it's not. not against an important England game. I'd defy any of the other soaps to do much better against the competition. just look at previous world cups to see how they all take a hit...dropping just as low as this

It could have held up better against the football earlier.

The football, by the way, averaged 7m. It could be higher on Tuesday which means EastEnders could be hit more.

Forgive me if i'm wrong but Eastenders doens't clash with the match on Tuesday. I think the kick off is at 8:00 so hopefully Eastenders won't be affected too much

How times change...

Casting our minds back to 18th February 2010 (the day before EE's live episode):

EastEnders (19:30-20:30): 10.77m (41.5%)
Emmerdale (20:00-20:30): 4.27m (15.7%) (it had gotten 7.74m/34.2% half an hour earlier)

That's not the fairest comparison but Wow how times have changed.....for the worse!

It think it can recover though.

Here's an equally ludicrous comparison:

Emmerdale plane crash episode (18m)
EastEnders: Divorce papers (30m)

No, me neither.

There's a message in those ratings about the power of head-starts.

It clashed with something important, for crying out loud. It's a far cry from sub-4m earlier predicted.

That's not the fairest of comparisons indeed but it does give you a taste of how far it's fallen in the past two or three years. I was just looking at a few posts in this thread from back in late 2010 when Hollyoaks was shredding viewers, rzt compared it to EastEnders getting 4.5m in two years time. Of course it didn't rate that low in 2012 but interesting nonetheless. Hollyoaks doesn't seem to have properly recovered from it's ratings dive either, make of that what you will.

EastEnders' 30th anniversary is just over a year away now - the last thing they need is to be rating poorly throughout 2014. They'll be hoping DTC can pull something out of the bag.

ITV were spot on with their promotion tonight. Expecting some great ratings tomorrow for Corrie and Emmerdale in particular.

I meant as to what does happen when the first show gets the head start. Probably not the fairest comparison, though.

Corrie is nailed on for huge figures this week. I would be surprised if it doesn't break through 10m at some point given the talk on here.

I'm not sure to be honest. I think there's more anticipation about Emmerdale although both will do pretty well either way, I imagine.

Ratings should be out in a bit for the soaps...

Coronation Street (19:30): 9.11m (40.7%) / 9.26m (41.4%)
Coronation Street (20:30): 9.35m (38.0%) / 9.55m (38.8%)

Emmerdale: 7.53m (36.4%) / 7.73m (37.4%)

Eastenders: 7.35m (31.2%)

Good start to the week for Corrie & Emmerdale. They can only increase, I guess.

All three soaps have very good ratings here. Well done to Coronation Street, Eastenders and Emmerdale

Great to see Corrie above 9m again

Good for Emmerdale too, I'm looking forward to the rest of the week.

Decent uplift for EastEnders, probably aided by the other soaps having big weeks. Looking forward to seeing what DTC has in store in terms of storylines.
