EastEnders has never overtaken Corrie. Not for anything other than big episodes and special weeks. Corrie month in month out for 4 decades has always been the number 1 soap. At no point has this ever been different. Anything said other wise is just a myth.
To be fair, the first period of 2006 did see EastEnders slightly top Corrie's overnights (11.269m versus 11.208m), but again my initial post had absolutely nothing to do with competition between the two soaps but only that it's clearly wrong to use those years as evidence of a ratings slump from which they've recovered, as they were still losing viewers. Do you really think that 2010 would've been any different had they not the Archie whodunit and live episode?

Certainly 2010 overall was still way down on what they were getting in 2004, which is what I was addressing. They may have done well by late 2000s standards, but not in comparison to anything before 2007/8.

EE - 7.5m (33.6%) watched at 7.30pm on BBC One as David was unable to resist temptation when Nikki made a play for him again. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 479k (3.3%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale appealed to 6.75m (31.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 116k (0.5%) on +1 as James continued his efforts to get Moira involved in his planned deal.

Holby City attracted 5.05m (22.4%) at 8pm on BBC One as Dominic and Arthur's rivalry intensified.

Hollyoaks continued with 1.2m (5.9%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Sinead and Freddie hit the rocks again, while E4's first look put in another strong performance with 897k (4.2%) at 7pm and 156k (0.7%) on +1.

As usual, awful ratings for the 8pm Emmerdale. Time this episode was binned by ITV.

Time for the 6th episode to be binned Lets face it 6 eps is not needed.
Keep it Monday to Friday at 7

Mind you Emmerdale has dipped below 7m at 7 a lot more lately.
Last nights 8:00pm was obviously dipped by the higher then usual rated 8:00pm BBC1 programme about £shops

Agree completely. People don't come back for the 8pm episode and as you said, five at 7 is plenty.

I watched at 7 last night and tonights episode.
As I am working Mon,Tues,Weds until late I won't watch now until Thursday.
6 and at times 7 is far too much to keep track off.

To be fair, it's been a lot better in recent months (though that doesn't look set to continue much longer). EastEnders is the only one that's consistently exciting right now.

I agree they should do away with the second ep on Thursday - it didn't used to be on twice, no need!

Can any boffins on here prove that the 8pm Thursday Emmerdale consistently rates lower than any 7pm episodes?

Mind you Emmerdale has dipped below 7m at 7 a lot more lately.
An overload of Sam with some dire acting showing the character is only tolerable in very small doses. Endless epsiodes of wooden Ruby. Tiresome neverending dross of Alicia/David/Priya/Leyla.
Val and her risable panto acting.

Averages for w/c 3rd Feb

Coronation Street - 8.20m (35.7%)
down 0.05m and 0.7% on last week
down 0.22m but up 0.9% in share from last year

EastEnders - 7.23m (32.1%)
up 0.48m and 2.2% from last week
down 0.41m but up 0.2% from last year

Emmerdale - 6.75 (31.5%)
down 0.08m and 0.6% on last week
down 0.30m but the share's level with last year

Hoping EE does well this week, it needs to try to build momentum going into next week which looks like it's going to be tough with clashes with football and Emmerdale.

To be fair, it's only 15 minutes this time and they're pretty much forced into it by the football, and I'm not sure they can air ED 18:30-19:30 because it would cut the news too short.

EastEnders topped the soap ratings on Thursday evening (February 20) with its hour-long episode, overnight figures show.

The latest visit to Walford, which clashed with Emmerdale for 15 minutes, pulled in 7.04m (30.7%) from 7.30pm on BBC One as Kat suggested approaching Janine for help with her mission to get Stacey home for good. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 609k (4.4%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale suffered a dip with its own hour-long episode, attracting 5.62m (25.7%) from the earlier time of 6.45pm on ITV and 165k (0.7%) on +1 as Nicola and Bernice teamed up against Anton.

During the 15-minute clash period itself, EastEnders and Emmerdale were neck-and-neck with 5.54m viewers each.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks continued with 951k (4.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as John Paul faced a terrible dilemma over whether to save rapist Finn. E4's first look followed with 758k (3.5%) at 7pm and 211k (0.9%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 578k (7.0%) at 1.45pm and 773k (4.8%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away interested 175k (2.1%) at 1.15pm, 614k (3.3%) at 6pm and 446k (2.2%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.53m (18.8%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
