Thursday Battle:
EE 3-2 Corrie”

Thanks for this.

As expected Corrie has the greatest drop due to the continued effect the 50th anniversary had on last January's ratings. As you can tell a similar thing happened with EE after 2010.

Quite shocking ED managed its 3rd highest overnight last Thursday for a very bog standard episode-obviously boosted by the Corrie affair episode after it.

Liverpool VS Spurs tonight on Sky which is unusual for a Monday to have such a big game.
Could dent EastEnders and possibly Corrie (8:30)

I've also Noticed ITV have been trailing the 8:00pm cornwall programe and last week that managed 4.5m and 17%

Just thought id mention this before we see 'Why is EastEnders low'

I see Neighbours got almost 2 million for its two showings combined. Nice to see it's on the up...!

Yes, Neighbours did rather well at lunchtime yesterday. Teatime still looks a little low though.

Home & Away recovered a bit from last week's lows at least. 2011 finale episode airs on Friday and is being promoted widely on the channel.

I really wish Neighbours got at least 1.3-1.5m for its tea-time showing but is that too much to ask for these days? Is under 2m for showings combined good enough?

I just don't understand why it's so low other than being on C5, because the general consensus seems to be that Neighbours is the only soap on form at the moment, so why isn't that being reflected in the ratings? I always wonder if the Xmas break causes people to switch off because they forget it's on. But for Winter it should be getting in excess of 2m.

I think you're right and there's some truth to the winter break having a damaging effect. The first 3 weeks of Neighbours in 2012 has seen the show average 1.12m at 5.30, compared to 1.28m for the last 3 weeks of 2011. We are just not used to soaps taking a break over here, and it doesn't help that due to us taking ours at a different time to Australia, we don't get that big cliffhanger ending that sticks in your head and leaves you wanting more. Instead it ends on an average episode, the show disappears for weeks, people get out of the habit and don't come back. C5 could be doing more to promote the show these days as well. Maybe during the next filming break they could get a load of the cast over and start touring Unis and stuff. The student market used to be big for the show, these days not so much.

I've always wondered that. Why do Home and Away & Neighbours take winter breaks?

Yesterday EastEnders got 8.6m (32.5%).

It must be one of the lowest audience share in years for a monday.

To be fair, the share's not that bad. A lot of people were watching television last night, so the share isn't too bad. It also went up against Liverpool versus Spurs, so that explains the ratings (which weren't even that bad).

Low share for EE but it should be up to the 38/39% share again tonight...

Can someone explain what % means please?

32.5% is very low for EE, even for monday. Normally EE gets 35% on monday.

Basically, how much of the entire audience (100%) were watching a particular television show. So out of the 100% watching television on Monday night between 20:00 and 20:30 (the time EastEnders was broadcast), 32.5% (33% to the nearest whole number percentage, 30% to the nearest ten percentage, etc) were watching EastEnders. (The 100% will always remain constant, because it will always equal the exact amount of people watching television at any one time.)

Basically, it says how much of the audience were watching a particular television show at one point [expressed as a percentage, with the ratio (the percentage):100].

Spurs VS Liverpool kicked off at 8:00pm (and had a number of trends on twitter too) and the Cornwall programe on ITV1 had 4.5m and 17% share so both shows would have dented EastEnders share. It's not often 'ITV Filler' gets a decent rating and share against EastEnders but it's clear the Cornwall programe is popular and ITV have actually promoted it

Nope...2010 & 2011 clash against BGT and anytime against Events 'Football' Corrie's first ever episode during their 50th week

There was no clash with BGT. It was a normal monday and I really would like to know when was the last time EE rated so poorly on a monday when there was no clash with an ITV programme.
Thank you

That's a very average Eastenders share and rating. The show is suffering and the ratings reflect that no wonder with the crap its churning out these days, even Emmerdale nearly beat it last night says it all really.

That wasn't bad ratings for EastEnders was it?
Anyway - when they get bad ratings - it's normally due to football, Corrie, bad weather, SNOW, Hot weather, or Tennis!
Or failing that - it's the fact that no-one is particlarly interested! Does that make sense?

When did Corrie get 6m viewers?!

As i said 2010 & 2011 not 2012

There will no doubt be a clash with BGT in may for the third year running. The football clearly dented the share.
EastEnders has a younger demo than the other 2 soaps and football matches like Spurs VS Liverpool is quite a big draw so i guess some watched that and looking at the episode thread last night some made it clear they watched the football.

I know you were not talking of 2010 and 2011 I am not an idiot

What I want to know is when was the last time EE got 32.5 on a monday in similar circumstances as yesterday.

Cornwall is no different to any one of the tens of countryside shows ITV have shown opposite EastEnders and they all get advertised, sorry try again.

There are big football matches on Sky on Monday nights throughout the whole football season.

Basically EastEnders was low because other channels were also showing programmes at the same time
