Clearly. I mean that's why I said 'this doesn't go for all of you'. And I was speaking generally as TBH I've also had ED fans in my face before just because I dared to criticize the show.
I love ripping the Michael out of the soaps. However when you make the same criticism over and over again, folk are either going to start taking the piss out of you or start getting annoyed. And if you still keep perpetually doing it after all that, then you've only yourself to blame I'm afraid. No sympathy here - you might as well wear a target on your back if you're really that dense. So here's a final clue: the ratings have dipped somewhat - nobody really much cares! (Most folk judge their soap on how they personally enjoy the episode - not on how many other silly buggers watch it) Is that clear enough Matt? |

Does the weather explain this? Last April was cool and grey at best, can't blame everyone for making the most of this gorgeous sunshine and not staying in and watching soaps. Especially given how Atlantis annexed the Somerset this winter, good on everyone for making the most of the sun

The only soap who's figures are better than last year is EE, I mean CS isn't doing very well either.
The consolidated figures will be interesting, how many have watched a recording (like I do nearly every night) or downloaded either for the TV or PC. OMG!!!! I'm turning into one of those! *gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, runs from thread screaming* |

I usually don't take a blind bit of notice of ratings but now I'm interested to know what they were like this time last year, anyone know?
2/4 - 6.84m/33.9% (+1: 215k) 9/4 - 6.56m/32.0% (+1: 277k) 16/4 - 6.19m/32.4% (+1: 224k) 23/4 - 6.69m/35.8% (+1: 195k) 30/4 - 6.44/35.0% (+1: 207k) It was colder last year so the share is what we should focus on, but that doesn't make great reading either. The share becomes more important when the weather gets warmer and the overall audience gets lower, shows really should be looking at maintaining their share or even increasing it. |

Here's the ratings for April Tuesdays last year:
2/4 - 6.84m/33.9% (+1: 215k) 9/4 - 6.56m/32.0% (+1: 277k) 16/4 - 6.19m/32.4% (+1: 224k) 23/4 - 6.69m/35.8% (+1: 195k) 30/4 - 6.44/35.0% (+1: 207k) It was colder last year so the share is what we should focus on, but that doesn't make great reading either. The share becomes more important when the weather gets warmer and the overall audience gets lower, shows really should be looking at maintaining their share or even increasing it. So the audience share is the one to watch, I might have to keep my eye on the ratings thread now to keep up! I'm intrigued, I've never bothered myself with ratings before but it does seem like quite a hot topic!Either way though, I don't think ED is in imminent danger of being cancelled yet! |

yes it doesn't go for all of us but the fact you made a statement like that shows you are clubbing a number of us together and oh please! as if it's not the same with the other soaps, we're not the worst fans or the best, we're all the same.
If I'd grouped you all together without saying it doesn't go for all of you then your point would be valid, but I'd already said it didn't go for all of you so your statements invalid. And I have never seen it on other soaps as much as I have with the ED lot. Maybe EE sometimes, but EE fans mainly just get crazily obsessed with the show rather than attacking others for criticizing it. It comes across as if a lot of ED fans are over defensive of their show.

I'm not getting defensive, I'm stating a point that there's a completely different way of looking at it (or spinning if you like, lol!). Personally I don't think a 30% share/2nd most watched programme is too bad, nothing to worry about yet, but just having had a peek at the ratings thread in the TV forum some seem to think it's rubbish, however not being familiar with the good folk of that thread I don't know how critical they are in general?
Yes it would be great if the viewing figures were between 6-7m but EE is only just starting to claw it's way back up and it's had some great 'stunt' casting and one storyline in particular which is getting a lot of publicity so I think for any soap to win back viewers once lost it's an uphill climb nowadays. If I'm completely honest I wouldn't say there's anything in particular happening on ED which would keep me watching if I was a new viewer but as a more long time viewer there's certainly nothing happening which would make me switch off. The only time I've been tempted to do that was during the woeful Jackson "what he bloody wanted/please let him die/like today/I'll do it myself if I've got to" beyond dire and depressing storyline. I usually don't take a blind bit of notice of ratings but now I'm interested to know what they were like this time last year, anyone know? |

His point however remains repetitively the same, as I'm sure you're well aware.
Or does it need explaining to you all over again? |

It's not a big deal. A 30% audience share is brilliant, the fact that 5.5 million viewers equates to a 30% audience share these days is a sign of the times.

Lol ... Hi OJ! (*waves*)
![]() ![]() I've been doing what that broken record should be doing - i.e. stepping away from the keyboard and enjoying the glorious sunshine outside. Come on in Spunger, the water's lovely mate. ![]() Quote:
Hooraaay, at last! But sorry Q, this is no time to be topping up your tan! You have to stay here and worry yourself stupid over the fact that ED is still around a million less than EE, (just like it's always been), and EE is still over a million less than Corrie, (just like it's always been) and the share percentage remains pretty much unchanged.
Oh, hang on......................... *dives into the pool and snuggles Uncle Q* ![]() ![]() This is possibly the only remotely interesting thing about this thread. I always sensed that there was a little something going on between the two of you, but this most definitely confirms it ![]() .

He wasn't saying that everyone shouldn't enjoy ED because the ratings are bad. He pointed out that there is a possible issue if the ratings have dipped this much.
He has an issue with Kate Oates as the producer - every thread, every post is about trying to prove that she's doing a terrible job. I have no objection to that - but using ratings to justify his position doesn't actually stand up in reality. All soaps are dropping in ratings - most drama is not holding up ratingswise, comedys. chat shows, even big shows like xfactor are all feeling the pinch. There are some exceptions like BGT. The way people view tv these days has changed and they have so much choice on offer to pick from. If he wants to justify his dislike of Kate Oates by citing ratings, then he needs to do his homework better. |

And that's with the usually lower rating nights still to come. The crisis drop to below 5 cannot be far away now and why not when they are shoving faghag Val down viewers necks night after night week after week month after month. If it's not that ratbag it's endless scenes of Donna's toddler being fussed over which is just filler crap. Babies affairs and illness. Affairs illness and babies. IllIness babies and affairs. Round and round it goes.
The one posistive i can see is the next producer can only improve on the total shambles Kate Oates is leaving behind her. |

Terrible news. The audience share last night was 34.8% Surely the show is facing the axe now. Kate Oates needs to be removed

I said it could be up last night and it was, down only slightly on last week but the excellent share (highest of the year so far) more than makes up for that. One thing people need to be wary off though is taking one rating and making bold statements based off of it, look at just Tuesday's poor rating and share and you can say it's in trouble, look at just last night's decent rating and excellent share and you can say it's doing really well, but the truth is most likely in between.
(Also, have to say today's posts are actually more annoying than yesterday's. Save the smugness for Charity, she pulls it off so much better. )
