It's on the rise everybody, its on the rise! And deservedly so! The reason this has happened as far as I can tell is because of the heavy promotion featured throughout this Easter weekend.
If you watch EastEnders' episode yesterday, you can pretty much tell that it was designed as a showcase for the new and old characters and also to show off the new feel of it and I think this was a great and cunning move.

Hopefully, if the 1/2 million guest viewers care enough about what they've seen in Monday's episode, the ratings for the rest of the week will be the true indication of where EastEnders is headed for the rest of the year.

EastEnders has been great for a while in my opinion, all it needed was something like the Easter Weekend promotion to lure people in to get a taste of what they're missing out on.

Very excited for the show! Good luck DTC. Long May You Reign

Only a 34% share, though? Meh.
It's 35% if you round it off but by their current standards the share (and raw figure) are great. This time ten years ago would've managed near enough 55% share, so you can imagine how much they've declined over the past decade. They wouldn't be doing much wrong to maintain these figures at all.

Though it's the share that's more important - 34.6% is not likely to equate to 8.2m on a Friday night but as long as they keep the share consistent they're on target. Was an excellent show last night, I have to say.

Great news, and well deserved, I can't wait to see what Last Request.has to say

Why do you care what he/she thinks? They will slate the show regardless of figures.

Bet Last request will still be slating it - no matter what, shouldn't be though.

Good to see Geri from Family Affairs as the policewoman (as well as Malachy from Hollyoaks - that's right).

Woodyatt claims these were some of the best scripts that he's ever received - i can believe that TBH - from watching this tragedy unfold which will be surely heartbreaking.
That's who she was and what show she was in, Cheers mate
It will....Chelsea football match on ITV at 730 but i expect Thurs to be back up.

PEAK of 8.6m Last night too.
I think of people find the 1st 15 mins good, then i think most will wait before switching over.

Great figures, its about time we beat boreonation street

This is excellent news! I thought last nights episode was great, the care free atmosphere at the Vic and everyone enjoying themselves contrasted sharply with the grim discovery of Lucy's body

It will be a shame if the figure drops for tonight's episode, since tonight is supposed to be the 'main event' of drama with Ian breaking down etc.
The rating will probably drop tonight due to a football clash but hopefully will be in the high 7m figures. EastEnders has deserved a good rating, glad it finally got one.

Thanks for creating yet another thread on the subject.......do some people not know how to use the Search function

It's even on the first page of the Soaps forum, so hardly any searching required

I wouldn't be surprised if the ratings dropped tonight, everyone I've spoken to though yesterday's episode was dull. Good rating all the same, though.

Though I didn't think much to Friday's ep, I enjoyed last nights, the shots of Lucy in the woods between every few scenes of Ian trying to find her was effective.

It's positive either way at least it shows EE is still capable of gaining viewers again through first airing.

Well done EE very deserved ratings to match a quality episode. I shall not be watching live tonight sadly so make sure you add an extra viewer to tonights ratings when they are released.

Ratings don't really matter to me but I am glad that all the cast and crew's hard work has paid off.

Delighted for EastEnders- totally deserved. Even though it clashed with the football tonight I still think it'll retain a fair chunk of Monday's figure with the even better episode we got tonight.

Monday 21st April soap overnights:

EastEnders - 8.18m (34.6%)
Corrie - 7.81m (35.1%) and 8.09m (33.1%)
Emmerdale - 6.32m (30.8%)

Last time EastEnders beat Corrie (excluding Christmas & Wimbledon) strangely enough was Friday 21st September 2012. 7.02m v 6.66m (episodes where Jenna found out Lloyd was her father)**

Before that was Friday 17th August (week Sharon returned/Ben was found out)- 7.36m v 7.13m, Wednesday 20th June- 7.37m (1hr.) v 7.19m, Thursday 22nd March (Heather murder week)- 9m v 8.05m etc but yesterday was the first Monday since 2nd January 2012 (day after Pat died)- 10.27m v 9.07m. Corrie's 2nd episode was dented by Farewell Pat.

**excludes 28/6/13- Tanya's exit 7.18m v 7.07m, only time EE beat Corrie in 2013.
Christmas week 2012 when it beat it every day.

No worries mate - didn't recognise Malachy straight away myself either as he looks a lot more grown-up (which he would do) - even though people had hinted he was in it.

He was very recognisable though - in very much the same way as Anna Acton is - it's just not always clear from what it was, that they were recognisable from, exactly.

As someone who is a massive Emmerdale fan, for over thirty years now, I have basically tended to just stick with it and never bother much with EE AND CS.

I have tended to find EE very 'too cool for school' whenever I have occasionally tuned in, just loads of cockney folk talking way too fast, with miserable shouty faces and all just soooo depressing. CS is OK, I guess, I do watch CS more than I watch EE but again, Emmerdale is my true love.

ED was the best soap last year, by a mile, and I think that ED has the best, most consistent set of writers, too. This year has not been so good. We SOOO miss great characters like Amy, Cameron, Gennie, Nikhil, Steve...they haven't replaced them with sufficiently strong characters. ED is suffering as a result and I feel that they should get rid of the story producer, Mark Bickerton....since Kate Oates poached him from CS story team last December, the quality has gone right down.

Kate did a great job last year. But ED is missing something and those of us die-hard fans feel real sad just now that we are not competing like we should be.

I think that is unlikely on a Tuesday opposite Champions League.
