When? 10 years ago? Nowadays EE can get at best 40% on tuesday and thursday. Mondays and fridays ususally get 35%.

Same Monday last year:
Emmerdale: 8.2m
down 160k
Corrie: 10.96m/11.91m
down 1.09m & 1.95m
EastEnders: 9.4m
down 670k

Same day 2010:
Emmerdale: 7.84m
Corrie: 10.86m/11.08m
EastEnders: 10.39m

Interesting facts:
Emmerdale: 8.04m= 2nd highest rating of the year so far

Corrie: 9.96m= 5th highest rating of the year so far

EastEnders: highest Monday rating since 23rd January

How many times have I heard this??
"EE NEVER RATES WELL ON A MONDAY/THURSDAY/FRIDAY (delete as applicable)"
"EE HAD FOOTBALL ON THE OTHER CHANNEL"
"EE HAD HOT WEATHER - EVERYONE WAS HAVING BARBECUES"
"EE HAD WIMBLEDON TO COMPETE WITH"

In my eyes, if EastEnders Viewers wanted to watch it - THEY WOULD!!

Get over the fact that the other soaps are doing better at the moment - that's a fact. They all come and go with the flow. EE is crap at the moment......I'm sure it'll come back to the top again soon - but it'll take a while!!

It's a long time since I've seen EE and ED so close on a Tuesday! I'm surprised ED is still rating so well, because it's still dire in my view. But the promotion for this weeks episodes seems to be working. EE's problem is that they don't have a good enough storyline to promote. Every episode I've seen since David Wicks left has just felt like filler with nothing of real substance-no proper storylines building up and just a mis match of plots.

After last nights ratings I'm predicting a big win for ED on Thursday. If it wasn't clashing with EE, it would probably have got its highest rating of the year.

EE was a clash with emmerdale. I think that usually happens when they clash, emmerdale beats it in the ratings

i think ed bosses would be very disappointment with the rating ed got as they hyped this up, i thought ed was gonna get 8 or 9 million

Serves them right. Maybe next time they wont be too quick to clash.
Emmerdale did have alot of promotion and infact i think its the biggest hyped up Emmerdale for sometime.
Had there been no clash with EastEnders it could of peaked at 9m.EastEnders held up well despite starting half way Emmerdale. Back to normal tonight.

I expected ED to win the clash - but also thought it wouldn't be by a huge margin - and it wasn't.

7.49m for the first half hour of ED when it wasn't clashing with EE isn't particularly impressive, given the magnitude of the episode, although it didn't drop too seriously when the clash came in.

As expected, BBC 3's repeat of EE gave a particularly strong performance.

5.64m is low - a big drop from Tuesday's EE ratings but apparently, that's what always happens in this situation. So it's all good.

It is and when EastEnders puts their big wedding/Murder ep out at the end of March Emmerdale at 8 will be reduced to 4 m like last time. Its nothing new and when soaps clash viewers are split

Does this suggest that Eastenders' 'usual' figures are down to a lack of 'credible competition' during EastEnders' time slots?

I think it suggests that Eastenders and emmerdale share much of the same audience, which isn't exactly suprising as they are both British soaps.

If I'm a soap fan and start watching ED at 7pm then I'm probably not going to turn over half way through to catch EE. I'm going to finish watching ED and catch up with EE on my recorder/BBC3/Iplayer.

Clashing with EE seemed to hurt ED too as it's figure went down in the second half. I'm not quite sure why the schedulers did that. If I worked on ED I'd be annoyed that a big storyline that obviously had a lot of work go in to it was put up against another soap and clearly going to loose some potential audience.

If EastEnders beat Emmerdale, then the Emmerdale producers would be annoyed...but as it didn't happen...

What I am getting at is this...would everyone benefit from schedulers screening 'credible alternatives' when the soaps are on? Wouldn't soap producers be forced to 'up their game' if they knew they were regularly up against stiff competition?
