I wonder if this will give ITV the incentive to bring back Downton each year for Christmas specials?

Please no. Then the BBC keep scheduling EE against as a 1 hour block. Hopefully, they'll revert back to 2 x 30 mins if no competition.

I think ITV's next drama to air on Christmas Day will be Cold Feet, so it depends how well the series does that the BBC will schedule EE.

EastEnders top of the soaps on Christmas day and a fantastic 2m in timeshift.

I can see the 8.3m figure on New years day making well over 9m in officalls and the 7.3m figure making well over 8m!

Shows that people are skipping tv shows on Xmas day and catching up later!

Last night's EastEnders pulled in 7.3m (33.8%) and 6.24m (27.1%) for its respective 19.30 and 20.30 installments.

Nothing on Emmerdale as yet.

Both ED episodes beat the second episode of EE.

6.55m (31.7%) at 7pm on ITV and 82k (0.4%) on +1.
6.51m (29.9%) returned at 8pm and 151k (0.7%) on +1.
As expected with EE out of slot and against BOAF.

I'd imagine EE will see a little boost on Monday after last nights episode - while it didn't do well in the overnights (it was also unadvertised that BW was appearing and Friday is always a shitter for ratings), there has been so much press/social media hype that I think it will be mid to high 7's.

Also, on the subject of the upcoming death (which I believe will be part of the Easter storyline) would it be outrages to expect perhaps 8.5m again for a hyped episode with a high profile exit?
