Hi all, I'm looking for a tablet around the £150 mark. Preferably with at 10" ish screen. I've seen the Archos 101 in Carphone Warehouse for £159 but since then looking at reviews and the support forum it has scared me off.

Also the fact the Android version is pre-Gingerbread worries me slightly.

Have spotted http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/270573...rlrefer=search on the Play.com which seems to be good, but can't find much info on it.

Any help appreciated.

PC World still seem to be offering the 16 Gig Blackberry Playbook at £169. I got one recently and I can't fault it.

I own a Archos g9 80 and bar a few niggles it's not bad. I did see the Arnova 9 G2 in Currys which was £199 for a 9" tablet that had a good build but had android 2.3 on it. for the extra £50 they are not bad.

Oh the G9 80 will be updated to Ice cream sandwich soon as well, the other one might be too.

Thank you, just went to my local PC World and had a good look, and it seems a nice bit of kit.

What kind of niggles are you getting?

Although it can play flash, when I do sometimes it crashes. Am not sure if thats an app problem or the tablet.

Also it needs a reboot from time to time.

Oh there is another tablet by arnova that is coming out for about £175 with honeycombe but it's 7"

Without hesitation I would have said the vega, but they are very thin on the ground at the moment at that price unless you go for a used one.

Arnova 10 G2 (same company as Archos) has Android 2.3, 512mb RAM, 1Ghz Rockchip processor.

Another vote for the playbook here, if you can still get one for £169 then go for it! Especially with v2 of the OS coming out in Feb.

They get great reviews on Amazon

I bought the Archos 101 and took it back after 3 days, it was terrible despite decent reviews on Amazon, ended up spending double and getting a Xoom which is brilliant.

Slap Vegacomb/HoneyIce on there, and you've got a tablet thats up amonst the fastest of the Tegra 2 designs.

(for examples of it, look up Vegacomb on youtube - plenty of examples)

Pretty much, speed wise its almost as quick at the transformer but obviously the screen resolution is lower and not quite as bright or viewing angle. TBH, its not that noticeable unless you are reading fine text. On video playback there is not much difference. But that is comparing it to a £350 tablet.

The number 1 selling tablet on Amazon is this for £109:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/NATPC-M009S-...bs_429892031_1

This must be too good to be true? It seems to be an unbranded Chinese device running Android 2.3. The reviews are nearly all positive. It is known as the "ployer momo9" is some markets and videos on Youtube show it running games including GTA 3.

There are many tablets going around with those specs, and whilst agree it's a very capable tablet. Just bare in mind that since they are pretty much unbranded or badged by a third party seller, most likely again chinese you may have to put up with minimal or non existent after sales support.

Of course there are many forums around and the android community is pretty clued up on all things software related, you may struggle when it comes to problems with the hardware itself. \who do you contact? do they even have a website? support phone number? etc.

These tablets simply come off a production line in Shenzen, China and sold in bulk to literally anyone really, who will go onto stick a "brand" name on it. Some are bigger than others, some are totally unbranded. So just becareful when buying one of these.

Having said that, for the price you are getting a great deal no doubt.

what about this one ??

I've just had a quick look at a review video on YouTube and it looks very impressive. Just going to look at another one ..

the Allwinner A10 also appears to have a 5 point multi-touch as well, if the video I saw is anything to go by.

It doesn't look too bad, but I wish the advert wouldn't be so damn inconsistent - makes for irritating reading.

The CPU is either a Quanzhi A10 or an Allwinner A10 Cortex A9.

The main caveat is that it isn't really a tablet - its an oversized phone - based on the screen resolution. 800x480 is fine, but its not a tablet resolution - purely phone based.

And not sure on their claim of "upgradeability to future Android releases", as its still shipping with 2.3 - surely it should have later releases out by now?

But for basic couch potato browsing and a little gaming it'll be a nice bit of kit.

I'm fairly sure it's the Allwinner A10 inside it and it's this one. I've linked it from 4 minutes, 26 when it plays a YouTube video fairly well.

There's a game playing at 5:37 which seems to run pretty smoothly as well. I'm certainly impressed for that price.

I bought one too!! I really like it. Lacking in apps but a new OS update just around the corner, sometime this month. Rim will have Android app developers onboard!! So expect an influx of apps populating the app store.

The PB right now is a great purchase at just over £150.

I've had my PB a few weeks now and I'm really impressed with the solid, 'quality product' feel of it. Apart from the rather long-winded security sign-up procedure at first (and the software update) it is a breeze to use and so far i've had no crashes or glitches. Pleased!
