Who decided that the majority of the songs last night would be songs from the 60's - often sad, slow songs from the 60's? Presumably they chose them for their broad appeal. Although not my personal favourites - they got it right for Rowetta and VWS - these tracks suited them, but the others weren't given the right songs to showcase their idividual style, ages or talent. It just felt that every act fell short for some reason. We haven't had a proper chance to see what they're made of. We wante to be entertained not depressed!

Hopefully we'll see more versatility next Saturday, something for them to really get their teeth into and show us what they're made of? The best 9 in the country? Surely someone should be giving us tingles. Hey, I'll even settle for a jiggle in the chair!

themed nights were the norm for pop idol
so the x-factor should be more adventurous
they should cast their net a little wider and
boldly go where no talent show has gone.....before

VWS were given the wrong version of "Ain't No Mountain High enough" to work with - the classic Supremes version form the 70s would have been better.

Rowetta's voice isn't right for white girl stuff like "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" - they should've let her get her tonsils round something like "Chain of Fools" by Aretha

"Alfie" is just too difficult a song for someone like Cassie - she'd have been better off with "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", actually.

And anyone taking on Karen Carpenter, like Roberta tried to do, is destined to fail.

So no themes then presumably, although I wouldn't have minded on the condition they come up with some completely different ones this time. As someone else said, as long as no more Abba! Sooo, does anyone know if we'll get advance notice of their songs ahead of each week's live shows?

I just want them to not give Tabby any more songs that have already been done by Ainslie or Peter on FA, as it's obvious comparisons (and not always favourable ones) will be made

I couldn't agree more, however Tabby haters won't like whatever they give him.

Most of the songs were steriotypical for the acts, which gave the judges real scope for criticism, which IMO is what they are trying to create, a slanging circus.
