As they are cheaper, people don't want to replace when they have one that works, maybe the don't have a HD TV, maybe they have no idea what BluRay is, maybe they can't afford one

Plenty of reasons if you think about it.

You can pick up a half decent DVD player for around a tenner these days, with even some of the big brand name models being under £30.

BluRay players are normally quite a bit more expensive, although some budget and no name models can be bought for under £50.

If Charing Cross and Embankment are on the Bakerloo and the Northern Lines, why do most people choose to walk or use their wheelchair between the two stations?

i think DVD could last as long or even longer than BluRay.....a lot of people cant see the difference in picture quality and some say the difference is not big enough to justify the extra cost.

a further player in the market forces will be online content. If more people start taking this option, it could well kill of both disc formats together.

If you have a TV with only scart inputs there is not much choice. Not many blu-ray players have scart outputs.

But they usually have AV outputs, so can connect via SCART anyway.

Another reason though is speed, a BD player takes longer before it actually plays a DVD than a DVD player does.

My sony has component and hdmi nothing else. A few might have composite but that's going to be a rubbish picture compared to a DVD player with RGB out.

I thought it was just Bluray discs that were slow at loading/playing, not DVD's. Bluray's have more programs/files to load than a DVD so it would take longer. I can't see why a DVD would take any longer in a BD player than it would in an ordinary DVD player.

Surely it's down to the processing speed of the player versus the the amount of data needed to be extracted from the disc before it starts which is the deciding factor?

I use a PS3 and it loads DVD quicker than Bluray and Bluray is very quick.
