Rovio probably do, because it's the type of game that people will play on an ongoing basis over several months, therefore displaying ads every day. It gives the developer the opportunity to make money from the app (albeit in tiny increments) over an extended period of time.

With iOS, they pay their money for the app initially, and maybe use the in-app purchase to activate the Mighty Eagle, but other than that, no more money is forthcoming.

It's worth stating that Angry Birds is an exception to the general rule. There are very few developers (other than the larger companies) who make the kind of money that Rovio do (on either platform).

Ah, as others have pointed out elsewhere on DS, that'll be ol' "Apple" Arthur again...

Interesting that neither the Kindle nor the Nook are available outside the US yet, a market which has been slower to move away from iOS than say Europe, as far as phones are concerned. They counted for 40% of android tablet sales between them.

(It was the 'slimmed down' tablets like the Kindle I was referring to as the cheaper tablets, though admittedly Kindle Fire is a different beast)

“Dozens of Android models distributed across multiple countries by numerous brands such as Amazon, Samsung, Asus and others have been driving volumes.”

What does it matter that the article I linked to is by Charles Arthur?

What do you take issue with in his article?

OK visited the phone shop to check out another S2 on display and the assistant also had one - both were juddery on iplayer like mine. The assistant never noticed on his before I pointed it out- mainly on panning scenes, he said it could be the way the BBC is formatting for android because other flash doesn't do this- which makes sense.

Also the assistant said he had a S2 in this week that got screen burn! .... great!

I knew OLED could technically get Image retention and screen burn as well as the fact the blue OLED cells have a limited lifespan compared to the red and green ones. Sony quoted 8000-14000 hours for Blue and more than twice that for Red and Green. Hopefully improvements have been made since.

Also UV light kills OLED cells too - so never leave your S2 in sunlight on the beach!

This is all just what some "analyst" has come out with, though.

Samsung doesn't seem to like providing sales figures, but I doubt it's make much of a dent in the market. The original Galaxy Tab didn't, and I don't see why the 10.1 would succeed where the Xoom and PlayBook etc. have failed (Xoom: 250,000 shipped in the first quarter it was available, 440,000 shipped in the next quarter, then 100,000 shipped in the quarter after that. PlayBook: 500,000 in the first quarter it was available, 200,000 shipped in the next one).

Back in October, Google's Andy Rubin said that there were over 6 million Android based tablets "out there" (sold? shipped? what?). Compare that with around 40 million iPads (at the time), with Apple's latest results this month showing over 15 million iPads were sold in the most recent quarter (and the two previous quarters, going backwards... 11.12 million, 9.25 million...)”

Well, we know Android slates are too pricey but we also know that consumers are easily swayed by slick marketing. If the duclet tones of David Morrissey tell people the best device ever invented in the history of devices is an iPad 2 then that is on the shopping list. Now I have an original Galaxy Tab and compared to a colleagues iPad 2, which I find a sterile, boring piece of kit, although undeniably well designed, made and presented and is leagues ahead in terms of processing power to my humble SGT, its the SGT every time.

I suspect all those with problems would disagree with the statement.
Going from iPhone to Android was a breath of fresh air for me and yes, it works.
I'll revisit IOS should Apple decide to put something new out there. I just got bored with it, but certainly didn't hate or dislike it.

Less freedom in what you can do with the phone means that fewer things can go wrong with it. So there are advantages to both. I think iOS looks dated, they should really update the UI IMO. I do not know how UIs based on Android look now, but I remember HTC Desire everybody was singing odes to and I did not like it one bit.

I guess we're lucky Apple doesn't have a patent on fanboys then eh?

Did you read the OP? Its merely a rant at an Android device whilst gushing about how much better Apple is. Even includes the old chestnut "just works". If that doesn't read like Apple marketing speak I don't know what does.

wiki - "This article's Criticism or Controversy section may compromise the article's neutral point of view of the subject."

says ...blue OLEDs historically have had a lifetime of around 14,000 hours to half original brightness (five years at 8 hours a day).... This is lower than LCD with 25,000–40,000 hours to half brightness

Read it further to see other arguments written in a fanboy manner.

One can possibly argue that it takes 5 years of 8 hours a day for the OLED to become as dull as a standard screen.
Also one can say the screen is so far ahead of the game it does requires excess negativity to combat the success.

Another negative there states it is 'extremely expensive to manufacture'. This will be a positive for the type of customer who does not want a cheap alternative.

Android users are far more vocal than Apple users these days. One can't have a negative opinion of an Android device without being pounced upon.

Yes, the OP did sound a bit like an Apple marketing guy, but for what its worth, I've heard the same complaints.

If he had an iPhone before and went across to the S2, what else would he compare it to?

Yep, I can see now that the OP was very discreet in his post, and was very careful to remain quite neutral.

Irony is i didn't know "just works" was a Apple marketing slogan !

Also to add to my list the OLED display suffers from Image retention.
Apparently all OLED does this, however this can also lead to screen burn!

I've a s2 from work, and yes it's lovely. But if you want to listen to music, and want to introduce your s2 to a dock... Well you've not a lot of choice, also an iTunes substitute? I use Winamp which kind of works but the sync takes hours and hours. I know iTunes isn't everybody's cup of tea but lots of people use it and for them an iPhone is so much easier.

To me the whole iPhone Eco system is much more advanced

This is exactly what made that prior link showing that IOS crashes 3 times as often interesting.

I have never been a huge fan of the iphone interface, but the glass on both sides design was the thing that completely killed any chance of me getting an iphone.

The glass is always the most likely part to get damaged, and the iphone has doubled the size of the vulnerable area.
